anyone know if the fingerings for the alto flute are the same for a C concert flute? i know bass flute is just written an octive lower and what not but what about the alto flute?
Yes identical, just that as it's a transposing instrument it plays 4th lower e.g. middle C on c flute sounds as G below that when played with identical fingering (all keys down) on alto hence why alto clef is 'C' clef but treble clef is also known as 'G' clef - you wouldn't sound right if you played alongside someone both reading from same music score so same music for c flute written in c major would be in f major for alto
