Winters shouldn't be a problem for Teslas. I'm not sure, but cold weather helps cooling, li-ion batteries like coldness, battery weight on the back assists for rear wheel grip. Only problem would be that lots of precious power is used for interior heating..
@idontcare80 Tesla vehicles all have climate-controlled battery packs. They've put a lot of effort in battery management. It's the only way they're able to push the Roadster's performance so high.
@mannionion For what, the raw sound? Also if your beef is with range, that's a battery issue, not an AC motor issue.
So basically you can prefer gasoline AND electric motors. This would be the equivalent of a plug-in hybrid, which is what Fisker does, Tesla's main rival.
@mannionion ...you DO realize that even if everyone drove an EV and 100% of electricity came from coal, the amount of carbon in the atmosphere would be at 1/3 the level currently.
And 20mph? That's useless where I live, the lowest speed limit posted is 25! (side streets) How is that good?
imagine if all car companies loved their products this much. Hell, imagine if everyone producing some kind of product loves their product likes Tesla loves theirs.
i made a video of an rc tesla roadster drifting. SUBSCRIBE!!!!!!

@taduikis1 Li-ion batteries don't actually do well at all in the cold.

how long would the battery last doing this?
mannionion 2 years ago
@mannionion Considerably longer than Top Gear would claim :P

i still prefer internal combustion though :p

just raw power, even though my golf has about as much power as a spoon..

@mannionion Seeing that the Roadster is the first commercial EV attempt at actual performance, aren't we jumping the gun a bit?

the thing is, they're making a car that doesn't run on petrol, but where does the power come for the tesla, a plug, which comes from where?
and the toyota prius was meant to be good, over about 20mph and the diesel engine takes over.

with the prius, the fuel cell isn't really big, i think it's a 1.3 diesel engine.
if lead wasn't put in petrol then we probably would not see as many manufacturers making cars run on battery cells
mannionion 2 years ago
@mannionion ...uh, they put lead in your fuel?
*checks mannionion's user profile, then myspace/bebo profile, then looks up Hinkley on Wikipedia*
The UK? That may explain our differences on what's acceptable. However there are towns of the same name in the US, but they appear to be much smaller.

@mannionion Toyota sells a prius with a diesel engine alongside the electric motor? Not in the US I bet.
