Fantastic performance, but I would agree with some others regarding the "Gary Moore" trap. What I'd like to hear from you are original compostions. You obviously have a load of passion and heart for the instrument, but I want to hear you actually play songs with interesting guitar hooks that you place your own stamp on. I'm a music consumer with a few dollars to spend, and I want to hear great music that YOU wrote and performed that makes me want to go out and buy your cd.
@Zhaggysfaction The real question is would you be able to find out what kind of quitar it was if you hadnt watched the video? If you can play you can sound like that with a strat les paul or an ...ibanez it doesnt matter.Sam would sound like sam with any kind of gear.Tone is always in the fingers.
Well. we can't find that out anymore, can we? But I think I and many others you also could tell a difference if it's a strat or les paul. They both have very distinct sound and I have played both of them a lot so I think I could tell. Don't get me wrong Sam is one hell of a guitarist. He sound great wheter it's a strat or a les paul, but he is not that good that he could make a strat sound like a les paul or vice versa.
@Zhaggysfaction Yes they can have a distinct sound but only if you want to...A strat can generate a huge humbucking thud and vice versa for the lespaul with the right settings pickups etc etc etc.Iam sick and tired of people bowing down to the headstock name of guitars. If you remove the visual feedback and i make you listen to five guitars from the same player playing the same thing with the same setup, pickups etc..i bet you wont be able to tell an ibanez from a lespaul etc etc.
I know only couple players who can get a les paul sound out of a strat with single coils, but I have yet to come across a player who can get strat sounds out of a normal les paul without splitting the coils. Sure you can get both sound out of an Ibanez with hums and split them but that's what they are made for. (I do have one of those also) I think you have to be close to god to make them sound so alike that no-one could tell.
@Zhaggysfaction i think you are missing the point. and the point is you can customize anything sound like...anything if you want. There are a lot of myths involving guitar and mostly about gear but very few about....fingers..lol.Many headstock myths many myths about woods and bullshit.i can play you the same solo with diff guitars and you wont have a clue which is which.I have tried it with many "experts" and the results were laughable.
i saw that video with you and riffguy and i fuckin love it. You are an extremely talented guitarist. I have been playing guitar for a little over 3 years now and i am always trying to find ways to get better. Any Tips? How long have you been playing?
This is seriusly one of the greatest improvisations I've ever seen I remember this was the first video I watched from your channel, I've seen it like 100 times and I can't get enough of it seriusly this is truly amazing
Hey, i was just wondering, what equipment do you use e.g. Amp, pedals etc. cos Ur sound is amazing and im really interested in finding out how you got it
Great job. I want that backing track!.All I can find on the net is midi to play with. what's your recording setup? Webcam mics stink so I have to use inline input into my sound card. You lose gain feedback that way. After I watch you I know I need more vibrato in my playing. That was superb playing/sound
he is realy young and this good already, I think he can be one of the great ones in the future, I say this based on my 25 year of playing guitar, YOU GOT THE FEEL!
There will always be someone that plays faster than you or me but when you close your eyes and play with your heart and soul it is unique and can never be topped. A couple of notes of BB King or a solo like the live version of Beck's People get ready have 100% more feeling than Malmsteens' diabolical runs. I take the liberty of speaking thus cause I am almost 50. Unite your technical gift with emotional expression à la SRV (which is already there in parts) and we may read about you in Guitar P.
I listened again at 0:56 the burst is very inspired and full of fire! I don't know if you have studied any flammenco and the concept of playing 'outside' the harmony..a note or two to add authenticity and rawness. For me coming back to the blues and studying apparently simple solos like Joe Walshes' Hotel Cal. and his technique of aiming for 'target notes' was helpful. You have great talent try to make sure you find a signature sound and then launch a universal attack..and ignore negative crap.
You are welcome...I knew that the Gary Moore comparsison would not be too hard to take. There are so many guitarists that seem to get caught in the trap of pyrotechnical displays of virtuosity but I feel that you really have the raw and authentic rock spirit in you. I spent over 20 years practising Paganini on the violin and Al di Meola on guitar and at the end of the day I realized that speed was keeping me from having a personal or signature sound.
You want to rated? 15 out of 10 technically...truly amazing but for feeling or artistic expression I would give you a 8 out of 10 because your expression is uneven i.e. you do demonic runs then switch and seem to sort of get stuck ....it seems that with a little maturation and space (you fall into the Gary Moore trap of too many notes). You may have the potential to become a world class player...CONGRATULATIONS AND KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@turockandar dude...imo...u got your 2nd rating wrong. Which notes would u remove..and at what point does it not 'feel' right to u...? 10 all the way...ha.
Your volume swells are jaw-dropping. Vibrato and pull-offs like a champ. Hendrix aint proud, hes damn amazed. I appreciate feeling your soul in this one
Sweet playing! Nice switching from fingerstyle to pick as well. At several times in the vid I'm picking up an Eric Johnson vibe-is this a player that you've listened to much Sam? Well done buddy!
Hey man, i randomly came across your vids and i can't seem to turn away from it, im in complete awe. Holy shit you got skill, but not only that, you play with so much soul its incredible. It changes the music from being just another song to so much more than that. I'd be a happy man if I ever reach 1/10 of your skill level. Keep doing what you're doing, you're awesome
Absolutely awesome dude - almost faultless, for me - apart from just one thing - that your technically excellent improv' didn't take me on a 'journey'; it kinda lacked a 'beginning', 'middle' and and 'end'. That's all. Hard when improvising I know and appreciate. But something to consider plotting, planning and working on for the future. Great tones. Love the Gibson. Peace.
Once again Sammy you've done something unique with a well known tune. Love the Bonamassa thumb technique. When is that band of yours coming to the USA? You have the WOW factor man. Ever think about doing those lessons you posted a while back. You are someone who I wish I had 10% of your talent. Could you post a video showing me how to do the awesome string bending techniique you do at 3:13 of this vid? I can never do it properly.
hi there Scott, glad you like this one. hopefully i will be able to get some new tutorials up soon. string bends are a little tricky to get the hang of but persistance is always the key. cheers mate
Hey Sam keep up the good work mate!! What gauge strings do you use and have you tried a Holy Diver in the bridge I've got one in the goldtop and will try the NBomb next ! So you have no amp at all on these vids? that is amazing, guess I need a Boss recorder deck.
Maybe you can help me- I'm trying to get nice blues sounds out of my amp. But the tutorials and tips and such online are for people with Gain, Drive, Treble, Middle, Bass.

If you want less distortion, set the Post gain higher and your pre gain lower. Basically, set your pre-gain for the amount of distortion you want, then use your post-gain as a volume control.
