Hey I want to get into surfing and I live in South Florida, so I need a board to surf sloppy and smaller waves. I have been skating and longboarding for a while, so I have been told it might be good to skip the whole softboard/longboard phase and just get a Fish. I was looking at a ...Lost Round Nose Fish, but I wanna know should I get a quad or tri-fin. Also, what length and thickness should I get? I am about 5' 11" and about 230 lbs. Thanks brother.
you suggest 4" less? My normal shortboard is a girthy 6'3'', but I went a little too far and got a 5'7'' quad really cheap to try out. The thing was so short and wiggly I couldn't push it down into wave without catching my nose, made like 1 out of 3 drops...so I just gave up on the thing. Do you think another few inches would make the big difference?
I like fish boards with MRs twin fins on them.Heaps of drive and they ride straight over flat sections. They have a rear stabiliser fin which keeps you straight.
Hello, i want to start learning how to surf and some people say that is best to buy a longboard maybe a malibu but since I saw this video I def want to buy a Fish retro board do you think it´s a good decision. Thanks I really loved the video
If you want to start on a shortboard, buy something 6 inches taller then you. Don't really recommend it, but if you want to. I started on a longboard and just stuck with the longboard because I like the smooth rides. Type in Tyler Hatzikian and watch him surf. Best lucks.
If you want to learn to surf on a fish ,that is fine .Most people sugest you ride a longer board to start with ,however ,it is more important that your board has thickness and lots of width. This will give you the stability you need!! So a chunky fish is fine!!!
a great way to start is renting longboards and then goin down from there as you rent untill u r comfortable with riding at least funboards and then maybe think about buying a fish but other than that you will have a tough time learning first on a shorter board, it can be done but this will require alot of hours in the water, sorry for the paragraph, peace
you should buy a long board first not a good one maybe jus a foam one maybe about 7'6" thts wut i started on and they r only about $150. i ride a 6'2" quad rocket fish now and its way easier to start getting the feel of surfing on a longer board. youll get frustrated and stop if u try and jump right into it. goodluck bro.
I ride a 5'6" quad and I can ride it in any kind of surf. Even if I go out in low tide I can still get a ride. If you don't live in a place known for a good break I don't see why you wouldn't ride a fish.
i rode a 5'4 quad fish today. it was GREAT. the waves were about chest high but really heavy. im going to get a 5'7 quad fish for myself. the 5'4 was stable and had great manuverability but id like to be abled to use it in smaller surf aswell which is why im going with a 5'7. its preference. try one out first.
Man, I surfed in England a few times and I don't know how you guys do it. It's so frigid I wanted to cry. Maybe I just need to harden up, but faaaaaark it was cold. Beautiful waves though.
Nice flick. I surfed a fish last month for the first time -- i felt like an 18 yr old ripper again. Where on the east coast? I live in Seattle myself -- familiar with the cold.
I think I saw you surf this board down Llangennith last summer, it looked like it went really well, especially considering how junk the waves were. The only downside I could see was that you caught all the best waves ha ha!
Great video. I have a 5'11 quad fish myself, I have never surfed better in my life. Definitely a welcome change from my shortboard! Love the wave catching ability and the overall quickness of the board! Keep surfing :-)
love those fish boards.ONELOVE

This was the smallest day we had -which was the reason why I managed to get someone to video a couple of waves!!!
As for the Quad Fish -get one asap . The best board for fun waves I've ever ridden!!
