Attention Harry Potter fans. As you may or may not know, several years ago, some awesome Japanese guy planed to make Harry Potter into an anime. For whatever reason, this beautiful idea was scrapped and left to rot. I now propose a digital petition to help turn Harry Potter into and anime and continue the greatness of Harry Potter with the fun of anime! Yes, I am a super geek. Super geek and proud!
When this song starts out, it could be about either Tom or Harry. It leads me to think it’s Tom we’re talking about because it said “I met a man named Albus”. Harry didn’t meet Dumbledore until he reached Hogwarts. . .
I think Harry actually had a worse life than Tom. I know we don't know much about the orphanage, but from what I can tell, I think Tom had a chilhood of indifference.
Harry, on the other hand, had a childhood of hate and abuse. He was bullied at school and home by his cousin, forced to live in a cupboard, and treated like a slave. And yet he's the one who chose to be good, and Tom was evil. Just a random notion :)
@LilyRoseLupin ah but you have to engage in some form of relationship with someone to hate them. You have to acknowledge them to hate them. But to be utterly indifferent to them? To let them be invisible, caught up in the machinery of an orphanage, and utterly forgotten? To not matter? I say Tom had it worse. By hating Harry, the Dursleys acknowledged him - every day.
@LilyRoseLupin Indifference is worse as if someone hates you they care about you! Just think of Snape he cared about Harry because he loved Lilly but He still hated Harry because of James!
The biggest difference between is that Harry got to stay with his family even if they don't really want him, there they were and are his family. Petunia really did try and protect him if you think about it as she had already lost her sister to the wizarding and she did not want her nephew to be lost to that world!

One of Harry Potter's biggest message is that it's your choice who you want to be, which side you want to take. Because Harry and Tom Riddle is, in some way, exactly the same. Orphans, had a horrible childhood, both parselmouths, both with a mind of a Slytherin, etc. But what sets them apart is which side they took, who they wanted to be. Voldemort let the bitterness take over him while Harry resisted it, and it made all the difference in the world.
@egirleagle Yes, exactly. Hermione and Umbridge share the same mind on following the authority, but Hermione will only follow it when said authority is fair and shows justice, while Umbridge, well, we know it's exactly the opposite for her.

@katnissblue99 I think it's about them both since, as you said, it refers to both their stories in this song- I think the aim is to show the similarities between Tom and Harry as children (and therefore to make you think about the difference between them as they grew up and how incredible it actually is that Harry turned out so heroic and Tom so bitter)... it's possible that I'm reading too much into things though. Either way though, it's a great song! :D xxx

I totally agree! This song particularly seems to not just be from Harry's point of view, but also from the reader's as they go through the same experiences he goes through.

i grew up with the HP movies and books....its a huge part of my life! i used to pretend that one night a wizard would come and tell me im a witch and take me to hogwarts, and i was a witch for almost every halloween! ^_^ HP 4EVA!!!!

I totally agree! This song particularly seems to not just be from Harry's point of view, but also from the reader's as they go through the same experiences he goes through.

I suppose Tom Riddle and Harry's lives are so intertwined it could well be about. E.g. How Tom came first, became Voldemort but then Harry defeated him...

i will admit, it could be either tom riddle or harry, but we must remember:
Tom riddle didnt care for a home!
and he didnt want to be a 'hero' as the lyrics say!
and plus later on in the album they canged it to :
today i met a man named hagrid",
so i think its really about harry.
but it is cool that harry and tom have similarities in the way they viewd hogwarts and life at a young age:)
i love herry potter with all my heart:)
