Ted Hawkins use to sing on the beach at Venice Cal. He went to the UK for 10 years till he got kicked out due to his papers not being up to scratch. He made a few albums and then returned back to the States to Venice Cal and started his public singing again. He was spotted by a guy that had a record label that had many artist on there books.....So off he went again. Not doing bad after his throat cancer. Saw him about 9 years ago playing. Amazing singer.

Ted played in open tuning so typically all the chords will be major with no color notes (7ths, etc). The 7th you hear is in his voice and perhaps the backing instruments.

Superb song from a brilliant artist. The pain in his voice chills you to the bone. Was blown away when I saw him supporting Billy Bragg in '86, and my admiration has not dimmed one iota. RIP Ted, you were a legend.

@210printer I travelled up from Liverpool to see him at the Newcastle Mayfair playing with Billy Bragg in the mid-80s. One of the best concerts I've ever seen too - but this song has always been my personal favourite.
