After multiple deployments most of my buddies are overly aggressive alcoholics who just want a good fight to remind them of being deployed. Shows and movies like this do one of two things. They either try to glorify what we're doing, or make us out to be sadists.

Even all of these videos on youtube make it out to be something that it's not. My first deployment we were in contact on a damn near daily basis. Almost every time we rolled out, we got lit the fuck up. But it's not as bad as you'd think it was. It's a HUGE rush that I won't ever fully be able to describe.

You miss being deployed, being somewhere that your only real worry in life is surviving, that you try to escape back to that feeling. Back to that rush, that sense that if you make it through this, then fuck everyone/everything else. It was a fantastic series, but I think it freaked out the civilians. It was true to life and touched on the realities that we face as soldiers everyday. I bought the series from Best Buy, and you can still buy it...if you can find it. I know that eBay has a few copies for sale. But like you said, another season would have been nice. A very well done production. Steven Botchco needs an award for making this series.

my opinion of why the show over there was canceled... When the show first started to air i believe the main fighting in Iraq had just gotten over with. Alot of parents and families didn't want to see something like this on tv with thier loved ones still ova there fighting so they chose not to watch it thats why the ratings fell. and the fact that SOME of the things they showed and did in the tv show were actual things that were going on in Iraq. thats my personal opinion.......
when it was broadcasted iraq was stillin full swing eg all the shit that was on that show was probably going on in iraq when this shit was originally aired.

theres a series called Generation Kill. but its a HBO series, so you need to subscribe to HBO. from the previews i saw it was similiar to Over There, except Generation Kill is about Marines rather than Army soldiers.

It was a fantastic series, but I think it freaked out the civilians. It was true to life and touched on the realities that we face as soldiers everyday. I bought the series from Best Buy, and you can still buy it...if you can find it. I know that eBay has a few copies for sale. But like you said, another season would have been nice. A very well done production. Steven Botchco needs an award for making this series.

my opinion of why the show over there was canceled... When the show first started to air i believe the main fighting in Iraq had just gotten over with. Alot of parents and families didn't want to see something like this on tv with thier loved ones still ova there fighting so they chose not to watch it thats why the ratings fell. and the fact that SOME of the things they showed and did in the tv show were actual things that were going on in Iraq. thats my personal opinion.......

although i do agree that the fact the series showed the brutal reality of the war was something that most of america wasnt too happy to see.
i mean i dont think they had any show like this on vietnam during that war and serious movies on it didnt show up until at least a couple of decades later

theres a series called Generation Kill. but its a HBO series, so you need to subscribe to HBO. from the previews i saw it was similiar to Over There, except Generation Kill is about Marines rather than Army soldiers.
