this NON ACCREDITED ANIMATION is not very accurate. Go to Nasa's site and have a look at the a few images from various satelites. Elenin is larger than Jupiter, has been by many many times in the past, has likely caused all kinds of havac all summed up. It will be closest to the Earth on Oct. 27, 2011. ELENIN IS NOT GOING TO HIT THE EARTH, however any objects captured by its gravity may impact us, hope for small ones!

I would heavily look into the extremely negatively charged particles in this particular comet. learn ANYTHING about what you are talking about, and then consider all possibilities, cause one way or another it's going to pass us quite close, and it has potential to really muck things up, just as much as it does to pass us without any issues whatsoever. this is why all religion is based of the Sun, It is the best protection we have from stray bullets in space

The simulation you see here has already included all gravitational forces.

The gravitational force cause by Elenin is the same as a normal adult person standing 180 km away from you! Four people standing at 180 km would be double the force of Elenin.

There is no such thing as extremely negative particles. Negative particles are electrons and are all equal. And the negative particles would be pulled back by the comet that becomes positive

Did you know that Elenin was on a straight line with Earth & Sun on 11th of March.

And the earthquake happened on 15 March.

Earth won't get pulled to it, cause it has it own gravity.

Just like the Sun and Moon, we don't get pulled by them eather.

It won't cause Devistation, what could have is you walking across the street

and hit by a car.

All i can say to you people, no matter what Elenin is. it is the most lucky object in space. it went true our asteroid belt and it did not seem to have hit anything. and is still on cours without draging anything. his course was not altered. and for a small comet it could have stop right there in the belt facing an object bigger....ouf that thing bring luck. :) and it has a disapering tail for some it is there for some it is not. and we get a cheap bw photo.

I dont understand why comet Elenin is getting all the attention by the conspiracy theorists. Comet Honda will be much closer than Elenin at a closest approach of 8.9 million km (compared to 34 million km for Elenin). Honda will be at its closest in mid August. I hope PlanetXwormwood will come back in October and explain what happened to the brown dwarf he is expecting to block out the sun.

Excuse my ignorance, but wouldnt a celestial object that was moving faster or was larger than another celestial object somehow affect the gravitational or magnetic properties of that object? Or would it have no effect at all? Can truly predict anything here?

You fail to illustrate the length of the comet's tail when this comet come between earth and the Sun. It just amazing the main stream media have failure to make an announcement about this so call comet entering into our inner solar system and to describe it actual size of its, mass, coma and tail. Also this comet is different from most comets. Its orbit isn't hyperbolic orbit. Elenin orbit follows a very closely to the ecliptic plane of our solar system.

This simulator does not show tails, but I did check the comet tail and it appears to miss earth completely.

When you only look from above you might think it will hit earth but when you move in 3D around it sadly misses Earth. It would have been a nice since we would have nice falling stars to look out for.

the comet tail presently is about 900,000 km long (>500,000 mi) and Presently traveling through our asteroid belt. My best guess as this comet gets closer to our sun may increase the length of comet's tail, but time will tell. Also the Sun is not the main body that this comet orbits around. There have been discussion by those who have been tracking Elenin beside NASA/ESA. They believe base on their personal obs that there is several objects following behind Elenin.

Ide like to see the same animation for the 2005 YU55 body that will be in our vicinity the same time as the "comet" Elenin. It could get pulled by the gravitational fields and impact us or the moon. That is an interesting one. It moves too fast (13.71 km/s relative to Earth) to be captured in Earth's orbit.

It appears to be moving above the Moon-Earth plane and never hits the Moon. But from a top view you might think that.

I don't know if I can find the time to create this simulation today.
