I"m as a big a fan of Springsteen as the next person, but even Bruce can't sing it like Bruce anymore.

I give points for even *trying* to cover Bruce. His performances of his own songs tend to be awfully good, and some are absolutely definitive.

A couple of songs that are the latter are Jungleland and Backstreets. This is a really good effort and I admire the courage, but it's not quite Bruce. In fact, after writing that, I think it is an unfair comparison and unkind thing to say. I take it back.

well to be quite honest, he has put a new spin on this song, he is nothing like bruce and he hates being compared to him, The Gaslight Anthem are there own band, there not bruce springsteen, they are four gentleman who are fucking awsome at what they do, if the cover was the same it would be boring but he has changed it and i think he has done a brilliant job of it, Brian Fallon <3

The best thing about him is that he didnt write this but yet he sings it with all his heart and soul which nearly brings him to tears (it seems) and that's a testament to him and the way the bruce writes them. It's a combination second to none.

Bruce has been covered by about 200 individuals & bands, but I don't remember anyone doing Backstreets (or Jungleland, or Incident on 57th Street). Bruce's presentation of certain songs is so definitive, so masterful, that a cover is unlikely to ever top the original.

I give points for trying.

I get a kick out of seeing people argue who has the best version of Bcause the Night, or Tougher Than the Rest, not even knowing they are Bruce's.

Its one of my favorite songs by Bruce and Brian singing it doesn't take away from how great of a song it is. Every time I listen to this it just gets better. I love The Gaslight Anthem and Bruce and have seen them both live, both with fantastic atmospheres and energy.

Of course I prefer the original, but I think this one is nearly as effective.

I absolutely love what Brian did with this song. Sorry... but i gotta say... A fuckin' great guy covering another fuckin' great guy's music! I love Bruce, my absolute idol. And the first time i heard The Gaslight Anthem was like listening to Bruce again for the first time. Nothing has excited me like that in a long time. The fact that those guys had Bruce come out on stage to rock with them has gotta say somethin' ! I'd love to hear some studio recordings of them together.

but gaslight is amazing to, and i think they are almost the bruce springsteen for my generation (im 20, and was raised on bruce thanks to my parents, and he is one of my favorite performers ever). what gets people is their lyrics, they cover such a wide range of emotions and topics much like bruce does. things like love, growing up in jersey, rejection, and just making it through. so im pretty sure thats where the comparions come from
