I just watched this for the second time... 10 minutes ago... I haven't seen in a while... it's so awesome... please don't make a drive 2... they would ruin the first one D:
Yes, Kid Cudi sampled this for his WZRD song 'Teleport 2 me, Jamie' and it was a good song. But dont anyone dare say that its better than the original.

@wafffl3: such as what? great movies dont always follow what is learned in film 101. and of all the movies that have disgraced the theater, you chose 'drive' to criticize?
Roy Lichtenstein's art is a great choice for this. It's interesting how his work evokes feelings of the 80s in a lot of us, though most of his work featured here was done in the 60s.

@LittlePrinceV1 That's a bit condescending don't you think? Half my friends (none of whom I'd consider film buffs) have seen and loved this from just word of mouth.
@Strand0410 'Drive' did try a little too hard to emulate Tarantino's stylised violence of the early 90s to be fair! Also I feel everything about it screamed trying too hard to achieve that perfect hipster 'film Noir' tag but hey I enjoyed it but overrated is the word you are looking for not underrated!
@CiaranVanDon I thought this movie couldn't have been further from Tarantino's films. While Drive was largely defined by its aesthetic, understated style, Tarantino's relied on sheer absurdity and great dialogue. The only common ground is rather low budget and that they both crime dramas. If anything, it was closer to Clint Eastwood's earlier projects.
@Strand0410 I'm not going to try and reason with someone who is clearly obsessed with this film! Read the UK review in the Telegraph online about 'Drive' and try and get some perspective on the film before you 'go off' on unsubstantiated rants!
@CiaranVanDon That's bullshit. Something as subjective as art cannot be labelled into very absolute categories. Unsubstantiated? The only thing unsubstantiated is the flimsy excuse you seem to bring, to suggest this movie is anything like Tarantino's work, that revel in bombast and pop culture references. You could have made the arguable, but flawed comparison between Drive and something like Taxi Driver, but no... You're quoting the Telegraph UK.
@Strand0410 I should be allowed to disagree with your opinion and have my own opinion or informed opinion. Your obsession with this film is clouding your judgement - your a sheep who follows the flock ;)
@CiaranVanDon Bullshit. You're so hung up on people liking this movie that you're trying so hard to buck the trend, you're resorting to incoherent name-calling and and insults to prop up your flimsy argument. You think you're being a hipster by disliking lauded and objectively-good film, it's almost laughable how little sense you make. You're Armond White.
@Strand0410 Hey man your obsession with this film is clouding your judgement, take a deep breath, relax and blow that bullshit out of your lungs - you will feel better for it :-)
@CiaranVanDon Nope. I didn't even think this film was the best movie of the year and have read plenty of valid points of criticism. YOUR reasons for hating this film however, are juvenile, petty and based on something as arbitrary as "gee, I'm cool for hating this movie people love!" You can't even defend your position with an argument worth a fuck, without it being torn apart by every other person on this thread so resort to ad hominems and circular arguments.
@Strand0410 No good sir I give you my reasons for disliking this movie in earlier posts, you don't have to try and belittle me with your penchant for big words and ridiculous rhetoric! Now try and be less biased with your arguments and then we can have a more balanced conversation - just try it, it will be fun ;)
@CiaranVanDon Like Tarantino? Nope. Addressed by someone else. Violence? Really? Very little of Tarantino's 90s films were gratuitously violent. Even the infamous ear scene from Reservoir Dogs occurred off-screen. Very little dialogue, pop culture references or moments of levity in Drive vs.... every Tarantino film in history. It didn't try 'hard' to earn a hipster 'noir' tag, it was a conventionally shot drama that happened to have a somewhat obscure sountrack and director. Try again.
@Strand0410 Why are you so angry, I didn't like the super-stylised violence, the bland storyline and Ryan Goslings monotone moody ramblings - he's a borderline mute for god's sake. It did try very very hard to be an LA 'noir' type film no matter what you say. A film shouldn't have to try so hard to be cool. You should really try and be less biased in your judgement of this film, loosen up and critique with less bias and I might start to believe you - try just a little harder ;)
@CiaranVanDon But now that's just differing personal preference, which I can understand. If someone who hates off-hand kooky dialogue, they might not like Pulp Fiction but that does not make it a bad or overrated movie. You don't like Drive for those reasons? Sure, whatever. But Drive did not 'try hard' to be 'cool'. It wasn't one of those faux-indie projects that wears its indie status on its sleeve. It was earnest, well-made and an excellent genre picture.
@CiaranVanDon Drive didn't try and be cool, it just was as cool as you can get. The movie oozes with confidence, and the tension is cranked up high throughout the flick. The acting is terrific, great performances from Gosling, Brooks and Cranston. The soundtrack goes great with the film as well. It's a different film, not your average Hollywood film, so it might be a little shock to your system. Refn did a great job directing, Drive deserved to be nominated for more awards if you ask me.
@chasepetrosino Look listen man I'm not in the mood to listen to your Bullshit, you wanna see a 'different' or above average movie watch Delicatessen, Naked Lunch, Brazil or El Topo - don't give me that crap that this film was so different from the norm! It was your typical bog standard & overrated movie!
@CiaranVanDon bullshit. i do not see much resemblance to tarantino at all aside from it being gratuitously violent. speaking of overrated, who made pulp fiction
@1derelicte Yes as I said the super stylised violence in 'Drive' was reminiscent of Tarantino's early work and as you said the gratuitous nature of it was also another trait of his work. Pulp Fiction was in a different league to this film to be fair, no masterpiece but certainly brilliant ;)
@CiaranVanDon Gee i guess drive is alot like collateral too right? because they both have that aerial L.A. city shot at night? hey but that's okay though because i think nowadays it's so hip to disagree with a majority even if you clearly don't know what you're talking about and is obviously talking out of your ass.
@cyrus138 Collateral although not a great film was probably executed a lot better than this ;) I am actually the minority who dislike elements of this film. It is people like you who think they are hip by worshiping this movie, not me who disagrees with the majority and the mainstream mantra! I told you before I liked the film but I would say it is massively overrated! I sir am not an idiot and should be allowed to express an opinion, I don't follow the sheep unlike you!
@CiaranVanDon This highlights just how flawed and petty your position is. You're trying so hard to rally against what you perceive to be the majority opinion of this film, you're contrary for the sake of being a contrarian. You accuse someone of being hip, yet you're doing the incredibly hipster-ish thing by dismissing praise for Drive as 'mainstream.' There isn't some imaginary sliding scale of popularity that, once skewed to one end, you must balance the other to appear ahead of the curve.
@CiaranVanDon - I don't see anything in this film that relates to Tarantino at all. If at all, then maybe to Melville (Le Samurai) and in it's consequent violence maybe to Scorsese (Taxi Driver, Goodfellas). Comparing to the 98% of pure bs that American film industry releases every year, Drive is a a perfect gem........
@neoschneewittchen But Oscar noms don't mean shit and I thought by this point, every film buff with a brain understood that. The Academy is 70% old white men who are grossly out-of-touch. We don't need their validation to be the final word on quality any more.
@iProsPeXx I know what underrated means and it's completely irrelevant. This movie has near universal positive reviews, a standing ovation at Cannes, and is a cult hit. How much more praise can it possibly earn? The Oscars? They don't mean anything in this day and age.
@canmanproductions true! i think its one of the best movies made in recent years. i think it should go down as 1 of the classics for sure. the music and film blended to perfectly to make true cinematic genius
you blinked

CiaranVanDon 2 days ago
@CiaranVanDon Nope. I didn't even think this film was the best movie of the year and have read plenty of valid points of criticism. YOUR reasons for hating this film however, are juvenile, petty and based on something as arbitrary as "gee, I'm cool for hating this movie people love!" You can't even defend your position with an argument worth a fuck, without it being torn apart by every other person on this thread so resort to ad hominems and circular arguments.
Strand0410 2 days ago

Try again.
Strand0410 2 days ago

@Strand0410 you tell him, sir.

1derelicte 6 days ago
@1derelicte Yes as I said the super stylised violence in 'Drive' was reminiscent of Tarantino's early work and as you said the gratuitous nature of it was also another trait of his work. Pulp Fiction was in a different league to this film to be fair, no masterpiece but certainly brilliant ;)

@CiaranVanDon Tarantino?? Did you see the same movie?!
cyrus138 6 days ago
@CiaranVanDon Gee i guess drive is alot like collateral too right? because they both have that aerial L.A. city shot at night? hey but that's okay though because i think nowadays it's so hip to disagree with a majority even if you clearly don't know what you're talking about and is obviously talking out of your ass.
cyrus138 6 days ago
@cyrus138 Collateral although not a great film was probably executed a lot better than this ;) I am actually the minority who dislike elements of this film. It is people like you who think they are hip by worshiping this movie, not me who disagrees with the majority and the mainstream mantra! I told you before I liked the film but I would say it is massively overrated! I sir am not an idiot and should be allowed to express an opinion, I don't follow the sheep unlike you!
CiaranVanDon 6 days ago

Comparing to the 98% of pure bs that American film industry releases every year, Drive is a a perfect gem........
tokaidon78 4 days ago
@tokaidon78 yea man it definitly has a melville feel to it.
its funny you said that cuz he reminded me of alain delon while i was watching it.

@Strand0410 maybe he refers to the oscar nominations, which are in this year way more boring than last year
neoschneewittchen 6 days ago in playlist Favorite videos
@neoschneewittchen But Oscar noms don't mean shit and I thought by this point, every film buff with a brain understood that. The Academy is 70% old white men who are grossly out-of-touch. We don't need their validation to be the final word on quality any more.
Strand0410 6 days ago
@Strand0410 but sadly only got nominated for sound editing. I thought for sure that Brooks would get a nom.

@Strand0410 when he sais underrated, he means it deserves more praise.
iProsPeXx 3 days ago in playlist nubrub
@iProsPeXx I know what underrated means and it's completely irrelevant. This movie has near universal positive reviews, a standing ovation at Cannes, and is a cult hit. How much more praise can it possibly earn? The Oscars? They don't mean anything in this day and age.
Strand0410 2 days ago
@canmanproductions I wouldn't say underrated. Under-box-officed, yes. However the film was robbed by the Academy, but that was predictable.
