  • Great film; a classic. I just picked up a copy on DVD. Too bad its not available in widescreen. Want to know the essence of this film's brilliance? 0:52-0:59

  • my mom was in this movie. haha

  • This should be required viewing for every voter in the USA.

  • RIP Peter Boyle.

  • Teabagger at 2:39

  • Look Mickey Mouse at 1:20

  • Best political film ever made ! It took guts to make this movie and lots of talent to make it so well. Redford is flawless! Robert Redford plays McKay very well and earnestly- really bringing this vivacious and whimsical character to life and shining on the "campaign trail". The screenplay is absolutely brilliant- taking every idea about politics and ingeniously infusing it throughout the many events of the film: a very constructive and admirable endeavor indeed

  • 0:55 with the state of theWORLD, Not just Obama, etc it sounds like politics4Real especially in theUK. white,LOOSe, lazy, exWORLD's LOOTerS, KILLerS& RAPISTs,etc,2FACEd=english ppl moan ab. everything, GOV.,etc but all they care ab.with theirWCsToo KIDs is: extremePORN, vodka/beer, BOOB Jobs, BlowJOBs, football, their PAMPERedPETs & STILL stealing from exColonies=the entireWORLD. the english caN't/doN't evenCook, learn foreign languages (not even english) but Do/Offer! ANAL, shit!EATing, etc

  • post it all !! yeah !!

  • love this film.genius.love peter boyle @ 1:57 getting in the elevator! lol! Redford later coached Jimmy Carter b4 his 1976 debate vs Ford

  • What ever happened to movies? Just look at the 70's. One masterpiece after another. Why is it so difficult to make a film like this today? God, how I miss the thrill of going to the theatre to see a movie that you know it's going to be great!

  • @kiasmus now we have Avatar and Transformers......Sad

  • kiasmus, there still are veryGood FILMS today, MOSTly anything having : JAMes CAVIEZEL , RobertRedford, JohnCusack , Sean PENN,, IN (or produced/Directed, etc BY them) .

See -TheThinRedLine- epic , quite topical since Iraq, Afghanistan, etc

  • @kiasmus

I got two words for you STAR WARS, it was fun to watch none the less but people want to see eye candy instead since 1977. Go to any Sundance theatre if you want to see any good movies out now a days.

  • Bellissimo film...!!!!

  • I'd really like to see this movie, can't find it anywhere on the torrentsites to download! Nor anywhere in the Netherlands too, or on Ebay! :(

  • This is the movie Dan Quayle cited as the reason he went onto politics.

  • The Candidatae remains the best political movie. It is still relevant today.

  • Hello! Bill Mckay, "have a drink, have a hotdog" lol

  • To me he walks and talks like Obama.

  • obama walks and talks like *him* - not the other way round

this movie was made in the 70's when obama was in his youth

  • Reminds me too much of what we've seen from Slick Willie and HilLIARy since 1992. A bunch of talk, no substance, and the last line is the clincher after they win the election:

    "what do we do now?"

  • @WilliamRowlett Not sure why the need for partisan damnation. Seems BOTH parties have been equally inept, equally corrupt, equally clueless.

  • watch amero

  • One of my favorite all time films ... BRILLIANT ... BRILLIANT ... BRILLLIANT!

    THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!

Too bad Michael Ritchie (the director) sold out the following year...and almost destroyed a whole town when he made his next film using lies and deception to accomplish his goal. Ritchie became the perfect example of the very thing he preached against.

  • @sharonafox1

Pardon my ignorance, what exactly happened that he sold out?

  • @SFFOOL76 Someday I'll share the whole story in a movie version of the truth behind how Michael Richie destroyed so many people when he made the movie, "Smile". The true story behind the scenes would show how Michael Richie was no different than the characters he depicted in movies like "Downhill Racer" and "The Candidate". Michael was a talented story teller and director...it's just to bad he had to use deception and thievery to accomplish his goals.

  • You are muy stupid. Stop speaking like that. You're a 14 year old girl from Kentucky, you Phoney.

  • Brilliant film & one of Redford's best performances.
