Poor wendlas hair.... He went from fingering her to grasping her hair... And she doesn't have a shower nearby.. tsk tsk. Of course I kid. I love this musical and I think that the sex scene was very tastefully simulated

Can you imagine how awkward this was to block? "Okay, so then you're going to rip her shirt open, and all the rest of you are going to rock the platform back and forth and watch! Okay? Great!" Oh, the things we do for theatre.
@ceejluvsya hahaha yeah. I just went on an audition for my school's spring musical Bye Bye Birdie, and it lasted from 2:15 until 6:40. Almost 4 and a half hours! That's when I got out. There were a few other kids behind me though so I'm assuming they got out about a half hour ago.
@broadwayswimmer It's staged that way. In acting, it's called "blocking." Blocking is where the actors make you think that they are doing something when they really are not.
@merbethmango Actually, blocking can pertain to any staged movements or direction that are planned pre-show. But yeah, it could be used for that too...
@merbethmango Blocking is actually where and how actors move on stage, sometimes used to make the audience believe something that's not really happening. But, it can also be something deliberate, like walking.
@merbethmango Oh dear dear dear, honey, making people think youre doing something when youre actually not is called "acting". "blocking" is where the director tells you to move on stage so the overall picture is pleasing to the eye.
@Emelsu1993 Of course that stuff about have a "chance" with him is almost impossible, but destiny is a big thing, but being realistic I would love see him with Lea or a beautiful girl and having beautiful kids!!!!!! DDD: because his kids would be as handsome as the father!! hahaha but well... we'll see, we'll see :))
@EleLoris Have you ever seen Glee? He could do the same thing Lea's characters fathers did so he can have a kid thats biologically his but have a boyfriend/husband =)
His kids would look great and maybe wonderfully talented too =D
@EmilySuydam hummm... I don't know what Lea's characters parents did... but in my personal way of thinking whatever is unnatural can't be so good... I'm not saying I'm against gays... on the contrary I support many of their rights but in that only matter I have a different way of thinking... :/ sorry, it's my very own personal thinking. Regards!! (:
@EleLoris they pretty much gave their sperm to a woman that agreed to carry their baby since they couldn't, same thing can be done with straight couples if the woman can't carry the baby only it would be biologically the kid of both parents & not the woman carrying it.
I dont have a problem with it so people can have kids of their own even if they aren't able to by themselves but thats just my opinion. =)
btw there are many unnatural things that arent wrong at all but I understand what u meant
@Emelsu1993 Yeah why does it matter if he is gay? yeah he is gorgeous, but there are a lot of gorgeous straight guys out there. and besides, as long as he is happy, that is all that matters.
@MrMediocreMusic She doesn't and I know what you mean, my roomate walked and my room and I swear I wanted to put down my laptop screen, I was like "what am I doing? it's Broadway, not porn" but kudos to the originator of the play for pushing boundaries cuz if it's giving this college aged girl in 2011 a feeling of uneasiness (which is ok cuz it's in the context of the production) then I can only imagine the response back in the day!
Lea and Jon are REALLY good actors...If that were me, I'd be embarrassed and I'd start cracking up. Plus, they show some private parts. It's so cool that they're best friends though. That, and Jon being gay probably got them through these kind of scenes. Love Spring Awakening!! <3
@usernamce i know. when i first saw this, i was like 'how'? i just got my first lovey-dovey role in Aida, and i am FREAKING OUT about the kiss scenes.....and i kinda wish my partner was gay so i wouldn't be so worried. VERY good chemistry between the two of them.
@connorhodges9999 haha wait. are u gay? I don't mean to sound personal and/or offensive! I'm just wondering. Cuz if u r, yeah it would definately make ur life alot more fun. hahaha
@hopekj Thanks. In other videos what she says is more clear. It makes me think of "Touch me" ("now there, now that's heaven"), which I presume is the point.
Ok so in the original play she is raped but I'm guessing not in this one since she put his hand back on her breast after he took it off/was forced off right?
@Alicenightmare69 no it was not forced. Yes, in the original play, she was raped. But in this play, at first, she did not want to have sex. But then she changed her mind.
1. I thought "Like A Virgin" from "Glee" was awkward with them....and then I watched this
2. she's not being raped under any circumstances. he tried to get wendla to not be afraid and say that this is not a sin, despite what she's heard.
3. honestly, this is true friendship right here. being able to do this every single night, then go to being best friends. doesn't get much more real than that
lol, I just now noticed the chorus pushing the platform back & forth. I was so focused on Lea & Jon, then out of nowhere, "oh, what, when'd they get here??" =P
@fangzoverfang They rehearsed this scene so many times. Lea Michelle said that she has been working on this project since she was a teenager. It's also called "blocking". They made it look like they were having sex, when they really weren't.
Okay to everyone who seems to think that this was some form of rape, I will quote Whispering in response: "Had a sweetheart on his knees / So faithful and adoring / And he touched me and I let him love me / So let that be my story."
The finer details of the choreography you guys are picking apart change slightly every night. What doesn't change is that Wendla was reluctant and definitely overwhelmed, but she didn't regret it.
