  • Am I the only one who thinks the love scene is oddly beautiful?

  • Poor wendlas hair.... He went from fingering her to grasping her hair... And she doesn't have a shower nearby.. tsk tsk. Of course I kid. I love this musical and I think that the sex scene was very tastefully simulated

  • Just got cast as Melchior in a small regional production of this. Kinda realized that i'm in for the most awkward blocking of my life.

  • Have you ever wanted to learn how to be a bench warmer for a high school basketball team?! Then I SUGGEST you go to my channel and click on our new video, "BENCH WARMER FOR DUMMIES." Watch the video, and I can PROMISE you that you will know how to be a good bench warmer. :D

  • There's one person who doesn't believe....

  • @SofieTrold that person must be living in a prudish world then haha

  • @merbethmango

    exactly xxD

  • Can you imagine how awkward this was to block? "Okay, so then you're going to rip her shirt open, and all the rest of you are going to rock the platform back and forth and watch! Okay? Great!" Oh, the things we do for theatre.

  • @ceejluvsya hahaha yeah. I just went on an audition for my school's spring musical Bye Bye Birdie, and it lasted from 2:15 until 6:40. Almost 4 and a half hours! That's when I got out. There were a few other kids behind me though so I'm assuming they got out about a half hour ago.

  • @ceejluvsya oh ... the things we do for theatre. At another audition that I went on, I got there at 7:00 and did not leave until almost 12:00 am!

  • What does he say to her at 8:14 and she says "i think so , YES"?

  • Well, as an actress, even I have to say this scene would be quite awkward... But they portrayed it very well! Another reason I love Lea(:

  • this must be maaad awkward for those people pushing that set back and forth....why is it even moving back and forth?!! ahahah

  • @x3melancholylove Well, they're making a baby, so I'd say they're "rocking the cradle" per-say? :)

  • @dizkidliz hahaha i like the way you phrased that. "rocking the cradle" hahaha :)

  • Alright, I have to ask, because I've heard both answers... Do they actually have sex, or is it just staged to look that way?

  • @broadwayswimmer It's staged that way. In acting, it's called "blocking." Blocking is where the actors make you think that they are doing something when they really are not.

  • @merbethmango Actually, blocking can pertain to any staged movements or direction that are planned pre-show. But yeah, it could be used for that too...

  • @merbethmango Blocking is actually where and how actors move on stage, sometimes used to make the audience believe something that's not really happening. But, it can also be something deliberate, like walking.

  • @lyndes33 yeah. that's what i said........

  • @merbethmango What you said wasn't complete. Blocking isn't always to deceive the audience; it's just anytime an actor moves that is planned.

  • @taryndar Wow! I did not know that!

  • What were they saying when Melchior was fingering Wendla?? Something about not there??

  • @VAMPIRICROCKSTAR "There is love in heaven. All will be forgiven."

  • @merbethmango Thanks :D

  • @VAMPIRICROCKSTAR you're welcome :D

  • it would be extreamlyy akward if THIS was cory monteiths 1st broadway musical ahaha

  • Ohh yeah i love lea michelle

  • Love this show.. but the sex only lasted for like a minute.. come on Melchior you can last longer lolz

  • @Emelsu1993 Of course that stuff about have a "chance" with him is almost impossible, but destiny is a big thing, but being realistic I would love see him with Lea or a beautiful girl and having beautiful kids!!!!!! DDD: because his kids would be as handsome as the father!! hahaha but well... we'll see, we'll see :))

  • @EleLoris Have you ever seen Glee? He could do the same thing Lea's characters fathers did so he can have a kid thats biologically his but have a boyfriend/husband =)

His kids would look great and maybe wonderfully talented too =D

  • @EmilySuydam hummm... I don't know what Lea's characters parents did... but in my personal way of thinking whatever is unnatural can't be so good... I'm not saying I'm against gays... on the contrary I support many of their rights but in that only matter I have a different way of thinking... :/ sorry, it's my very own personal thinking. Regards!! (:

  • @EleLoris they pretty much gave their sperm to a woman that agreed to carry their baby since they couldn't, same thing can be done with straight couples if the woman can't carry the baby only it would be biologically the kid of both parents & not the woman carrying it.

I dont have a problem with it so people can have kids of their own even if they aren't able to by themselves but thats just my opinion. =)

btw there are many unnatural things that arent wrong at all but I understand what u meant

  • think about how awkward it mustve been to run off the stage half naked.... ohhh how i love this show <3

  • @Emelsu1993 Yeah why does it matter if he is gay? yeah he is gorgeous, but there are a lot of gorgeous straight guys out there. and besides, as long as he is happy, that is all that matters.

  • Does Lea Michelle show her breasts in this scene? This scene is very very intimate. I almost feel like I should not be watching haha

  • @MrMediocreMusic She doesn't and I know what you mean, my roomate walked and my room and I swear I wanted to put down my laptop screen, I was like "what am I doing? it's Broadway, not porn" but kudos to the originator of the play for pushing boundaries cuz if it's giving this college aged girl in 2011 a feeling of uneasiness (which is ok cuz it's in the context of the production) then I can only imagine the response back in the day!

  • even with the raunchiness of it all (if i spelled that right), there is something very beautiful about this scene. <3 Melchior & Wendla.

  • @jeannaegirl you did!(:

  • Wow....Jon is a lucky guy.

  • Lea and Jon are REALLY good actors...If that were me, I'd be embarrassed and I'd start cracking up. Plus, they show some private parts. It's so cool that they're best friends though. That, and Jon being gay probably got them through these kind of scenes. Love Spring Awakening!! <3

  • @usernamce i know. when i first saw this, i was like 'how'? i just got my first lovey-dovey role in Aida, and i am FREAKING OUT about the kiss scenes.....and i kinda wish my partner was gay so i wouldn't be so worried. VERY good chemistry between the two of them.

  • Jonathan Groff, why do you have to be gay?? It just makes my life way too depressing.

  • @terrastar12 I know he is gorgeous and all, but there is nothing wrong with being gay. As long as he's happy, that's all that matters.

  • @merbethmango Oh of course there's nothing wrong it it! It's just that my dreams of marrying him one day are completely out the window. :/

  • @merbethmango Lol i think Terra has nothing against gays, just that now she doesnt have a chance with him haha

  • @merbethmango it still sucks because it destroys hope for any female who has seen him perform pretty much lol

  • @MDSDKSMDBDNDGD haha yeah true. I must admit that Jon is gorgeous, but i loovveee <3 John Gallagher Jr! haha

  • @merbethmango In fact, some would even say they're glad he's gay. Then no other woman can have him :D

  • @terrastar12 It doesn't make me depressed he's gay it makes me depressed I'm not a man!

  • @derpderplul well said. and...yeah. that's just better.

  • @terrastar12 it makes mine a lot more fun ;)

  • @connorhodges9999 haha wait. are u gay? I don't mean to sound personal and/or offensive! I'm just wondering. Cuz if u r, yeah it would definately make ur life alot more fun. hahaha

  • This scene is sooo romantic!

  • What does Wendla say at 4:40? "almost?"

  • @emcmagic according to my spring awakening official musical book-she is saying 'now, there-now that's...' before melchior says 'yes?'

but to me it does sound like 'almost' also

  • @hopekj Thanks. In other videos what she says is more clear. It makes me think of "Touch me" ("now there, now that's heaven"), which I presume is the point.

  • @emcmagic either that of but no so idk

  • Ok so in the original play she is raped but I'm guessing not in this one since she put his hand back on her breast after he took it off/was forced off right?

  • @Alicenightmare69 no it was not forced. Yes, in the original play, she was raped. But in this play, at first, she did not want to have sex. But then she changed her mind.

  • couple things to say:

    1. I thought "Like A Virgin" from "Glee" was awkward with them....and then I watched this

    2. she's not being raped under any circumstances. he tried to get wendla to not be afraid and say that this is not a sin, despite what she's heard.

    3. honestly, this is true friendship right here. being able to do this every single night, then go to being best friends. doesn't get much more real than that

    4. best musical ever :)

  • Much respect for these two amazing actors I LOVE Lea and Jon soo much!!! Just nit on glee;) MORE a Finchel Fan than a St.Berry!!!;)

  • Maybe "Balls points" to Lea and Jon. They've got balls. O_O I don't know if I'd ever be able to do that onstage.

  • bah this is sad

  • lol, I just now noticed the chorus pushing the platform back & forth. I was so focused on Lea & Jon, then out of nowhere, "oh, what, when'd they get here??" =P

  • This must have been weird rehearsing.

  • @fangzoverfang They rehearsed this scene so many times. Lea Michelle said that she has been working on this project since she was a teenager. It's also called "blocking". They made it look like they were having sex, when they really weren't.

  • what the hell does she say at 4:38?

  • Okay to everyone who seems to think that this was some form of rape, I will quote Whispering in response: "Had a sweetheart on his knees / So faithful and adoring / And he touched me and I let him love me / So let that be my story."

The finer details of the choreography you guys are picking apart change slightly every night. What doesn't change is that Wendla was reluctant and definitely overwhelmed, but she didn't regret it.

  • @ThexImperfectionist agreed. thank you(:

  • @ThexImperfectionist In the original play it was made very clear that it was rape, but this version was toned down. In any case, you're right: the lyrics are perfectly obvious.

  • I love this show so much. They made this scene so beautiful, sexual and innocent all at the same time.

(I just had sex... And it felt so good...)

  • did ijust see lea michele's boob????? abit shocking...well you gotta do what you gotta do for show biz

  • how do you think the mom's against lea's cosmo cover would react if they saw this cover?

  • @dizkidliz I was literally thinking the same thing while watching this.... lol

Idk about you but i think those mothers are completely overreacting.

  • @dizkidliz It is kinda stupid. when the glee cast did slightly sugestive poses in a magaseen they make a big deal about how there child will be desturbed but I sware if they are old enough to watch glee they should be able to handle that and if they are really big lea michele fans they probly would have already watched this!

  • is it me, or does it feel like guilty ones seems a lot slower? amazing, but slower than what i'm used to hearing.

  • @coconuttygurl34 that's because it's a live version. they usually do tend to speed things up in recordings.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, what a beautifully staged scene, done very well by both of them. It must of taken hours and hours to get it just right. I applaud them for doing such a sensitive scene. Someone told me they both said that the beating scene was harder for them than this scene.

  • @justsailingalong this scene was done more as a choreography so i suppose it must have been easier :)

  • the way jonathan says fits and starts... :) <3

  • wow that was very intense that scene

  • it is very intense

  • I know it's not, I was making a joke. Like Baby It's Cold Outside is also a form of date rape. Date rape is undefined, but what Melchior did was a form of date rape. He had to persuade her to do it when originally she was against it. Now, I love Melchior just as much as the next Spring Awakening fan, but you can't excuse what he did. He got her pregnant, and he knew exactly what he was doing and the consequences behind it.

  • @brewerbulldog44 In the original play it is full on rape, no excuses. The creators of the musical did reshape the scene though, to make it more of a love scene

  • @IAMWillemL I know....?

  • There s no way in HELL tht he is gay he is such a babe

  • Date rape much...

  • @brewerbulldog44 no it wasn't. he was trying to get her to trust him because she was afraid at first. she was afraid of what people would think because as you know, in the show, sex is basically forbidden. melchior doesn't believe that sex is in ur sinful nature which is what the adults in the show are trying to teach the kids in the show. he is trying to show wendla that there is nothing to be afraid of.

  • @merbethmango well yes, but it is still legally considered "date rape"

  • @merbethmango totally agree, it was beautiful!

  • In the original play, it is very clear that Melchior DOES rape Wendla. In the musical they made it more ambiguous but the play is very explicit that it is a forced rape and that Wendla protests but Melchior rapes her anyways.

  • @brewerbulldog44 In the original play, yes, Wendla was raped. But in this amended version she can be heard saying yes and allowing herself to have sex with Melchior.

  • @quoththeraven929 I know! But still she didn't know what in the world they were doing, and he seduced her. And he knew full well what they were doing and the consequences. He was the one responsible for it all.
