  • It's funny how the Kid has more difficulty carrying Zulf than the battering ram. I think the ura diplomat's regrets must be a huge burden.

  • As I walked further through the streets, I saw a bunch of Ura attacking...... Zulf.

I couldn't leave him. He may have done some things.... but I just couldn't. As the Ura saw me coming, they vanished. I dropped the battering ram, and picked up

    Zulf.

And as I walked through the streets... they stopped. Maybe out of respect? Or fear? I never knew.

All I know. Is I came home

  • This made the game for me. Amazing work by Supergiant Games

  • When I first played through this game, I decided to save Zulf. At first, I thought I might be able to outrun the Ura. Then I thought I might be able to use the terrain to block their attacks. Finally, I accepted that maybe it was alright for me to die...at least I was doing what I felt was right, and who knows, maybe it would encourage peace in the future. Then...something I thought to be impossible happened.

  • This moment was incredible. I saw the blocks show up and thought "Okay, I'm making a desperate trench-run. Let's go, buddy. We can stick to cover!" But then there wasn't any, and I remember feeling all choked up thinking "We're not making it out of here, are we?" Guzzling those health potions, taking more arrows than all of Skyrim's guards combined. . .truly powerful moment. I'm glad I was alone to let a few tears out, wondering if the kid'd make it. Evacuated, started anew from the ruins. :)

  • Instead of respect, I felt the Ura let Kid go out of (mostly) absolute fear. Kid just leaves bodies everywhere in the Ura streets, proceeds to wield a battering Ram like a club (holy shit...), then... just stops killing as soon as he takes back Zulf...

Takes arrows and bullets while shouldering Zulf and just keeps marching no stop.

You do NOT fuck with this one kid. Ura shuts the door behind him hoping he never has a reason to come back, I'd be scared too If I wasn't the main Character there

  • I played the game through a second time just to see what would happen if I chose to leave Zulf behind. When I got to that part a really powerful emotion hit me I can't explain and I chose to rescue him again. This game is a fucking masterpiece

  • I saved him.

    I chose to Evacuate.

And fuck am I glad I did.

  • Best moment in gaming

  • It's easy to tell a story through cutscenes and cinematics.

It takes true vision and talent to tell it through gameplay.

  • Option A: Forgive Zulf for acting out of desperation and save him from his also desperate people who are trying to kill him.

Option B: Keep the stupid slow, short range weapon instead of my fully upgraded weapons.

    Hmm...

  • I love how the Ura eventually are just stunned that the Kid risked everything for Zulf, and just let him pass. Even there leader smacks down the guy shooting at him out of respect. God I love this game

  • This whole scene is one of the biggest reasons why cut scenes will always suck when compared to actual in game story telling.

  • @Evilmonkey66699 God yes! Nothing makes a story as powerful and effective as actively taking part in it.

Far better than when a game intermittently slaps the controller out of your hands for story time.

  • I almost cried. I dont wear my emotions on my sleeves, and i cant remember a time when i was this close to tears (never lost anyone close to me, thank god)

  • Bastion has such a great soundtrack

  • I then evacuated, eliminating the possibility of going back and saving him. Time went on. Zulf, he went to a happier place.

Life isn't all dandelions and lollipops, and this game showed me that.

  • @VideoGaku123 You're the one who's making it that way...

  • Just... Wow.

In my opinion, the first time you play through, you save Zulf, and Restore...

The second time, I couldn't forgive him a second time.

I actually said this out loud, my mom thought I was talking to myself.

I said "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

  • @VideoGaku123 But why?

They have no memory of it...

  • @youtabeer It just all the events that lead up to this moment, and then this. After everything that happens throughout this level/game once you get to this point it just all comes together.

Although I will say this. The game isn't as great as everybody says it is. I definitely enjoyed it more than most other games I played this year, but it's one of the most overrated games of the year in my opinion. Still worth the buy though. Definitely recommend it.

  • @Predator9191 IDK, if I would call it one of the most overrated games of the year as there's far more fitting titles for that honor Call of duty MW3, Minecraft, Skyrim, Marvel vs Capcom 3/Ultimate MVC3, ect. but that's just my opinion.

  • @Evilmonkey66699 I totally agree with you , this game is not overrated at all , it's quite the masterpiece all the games you mentioned are indeed overrated i don't say they're bad but some people have them in such high regards despite them not being that good , this game it is actually very good the best i played as far as indie games go and is still better than some major games in my opinion.

  • @youtabeer Because its an amazing game. Just play the damn game its worth it.

  • i honestly debated leaving him cuz im like eh u'll leave the ram though and if there is enemies i'm effed >> but meh he got betrayed just like you did so now he knew how it felt and I think he arguably had it worse than anyone else so I saved him. That commander taking out a comrade for you was kinda epic too. I assume he didnt actually kill the bowman cuz it says 4 damage. Well no regrets, didnt die, evacuated, gg. Kinda did expect the whole epic boss fight thing tho was a nice twist.

  • And now I feel kinda bad for picking the heartless option. Its just stomping around with that stupid battering ram.

  • I really hope 9 year olds who want to be video game developers played this

and they learn your supposed to make a game powerful by presenting consequences for your actions instead of making one option really good and the other dumb and obvious.

Real choices aren't supposed to be easy.

  • Probably the strongest moment I have ever felt in a videogame

  • Taking Zulf was the easiest decision I've ever made in a video game

  • greatest moment ever, no matter how bad they are... you could always forgive them for what they have done.

  • You know you'll reach the end of the story very soon. The whole world is in ruins and you had to kill many people to survive. You bear a massive weapon of sheer destruction, getting ready to face what could have been the "antagonist" in another game. You're expecting some kind of Climax, an adrenaline-pumping fight or race to death.

Then, this. Then you feel miserable, then you cry.

    Thanks, Bastion.

  • When Ruckus kept telling the kid to get up, I thought he was not going to. I can still feel the tears stinging my eyes and my throat choking up.

  • This was one of the most beautiful moments in all of gaming history,I've played this game countless times just to see this 1 moment

  • Before you decide to leave him behind, consider this:

If you don't forgive him for his actions...are you really that different from the people you tried to wipe out?

  • @sonicboom454 Well said!

  • this might be a little crazy but i think ruckus and kid or the same person

  • @diggsc1 they ain't... but I thought so when i first heard about the resotration... but doesn't make sens if they are

  • This fucking scene.

    That fucking music.

That fucking asshole that keeps shooting.

    ;___;

  • When you save zulf, carrying his body through the gauntlet, the sombre soft music playing.....FUCK.....I almost felt tears well in my eyes. I

  • I didn't save him, I'm so stupid... :( Now I have to play the game again... :)

  • I can see it now. The Kid in one corner, and Zulf in the other. Ain't much of a fight.

  • I was tempted to pirate this game. So, so glad I didn't. Bastion deserves more than that.

  • Played trought this game 4 times now, didn't left him behind once.

DAMN YOU EPIC SOUNDTRACK AND SCRIPT, DAMN YOU!

  • I've just finished the game. This indeed is the most powerful moment in the game, and I haven't felt such thing playing a game yet. I'm totally blown away.

  • best ending off all

  • Thanks to this awesome song making this scene a masterpiece.

  • found this game thx to extra credits... one of the best games since a long long time...

  • still gives me goose bumps :D amazing moment

  • I started crying in this scene and couldn't stop until the ending credits were over. This is one of the best moments I've ever lived playing videogames, if not the best.

  • I remember on my first play through, I took Zulf with me and saw the epicness of this scene. One of the best moments in the game, by far.

Then, during my next playthrough on that after game setting, (can't remember the name), while playing the game, I decided to not save him to see the other ending. However, when I got there, I couldn't bring myself to leave him there, so I saved him again. I REGRET NOTHING! :3

  • I cried.

  • i still get emotional watching this..

  • Anyone who didnt take zulf you where not the good guy. sure if you restored the bastion it wouldnt matter but do you really want to live in the past forever? NO so that the best thing you can do let things go and let zulf take another breath of the future not the past.any moment id want to relive hapend after the calamity not before.

  • i had leechade and that hit at 1.57 kept me alive :D

  • Really one of the best experiences I've had in a video game.... it's simple looking but has some nice emotion behind it. I did leave him behind once to see the difference but it didn't feel right at all. I also did the restoration ending in that run. So when I played through again I chose differently on both choices. Save Zulf + Evacuation really feels like the good end.

  • This is why video games have so much potential as a storytelling medium. When this part game up, you know what I did? I put the controller down, and thought. Than 10 minutes later I picked up the controller, and made my decision (saved him).

When was the last time anything but a game made you do that?

  • Comment removed

  • @MrPizzapoika ... i put down my controller for 20 minutes... it was hard... then i saved him... i felt warm inside.. one of the best games i have ever played... first time i shed a tear... over a video game..

  • This kind of emotion is a thing that only videogames can provide.

  • yeah the moment they stoped shooting and made way was so epic for me ;] this realization that they let him go out of respect for his courage and compassion ( I thought it might be bad end choice xD that makes it impossible to go through dunno why ) was my favourite in game :) they should make more stuff like this!

  • Left him to die, fuck his scheming ass.

  • Was nobody a dick enough to leave Zulf? I can't find any videos of what happens because I can't bring myself to do it. :\

  • @TheInsaneWombat I did it because I'm a cruel bastard :D

  • I thought i screwed up and got the bad ending when i first played through cause it looked like the Kid and Zulf were going to die. There i was spamming my potions hoping i had enough to make it. Then bam, The leader bitch slapped one of his goons (1.57) and then I realized what was happening. That moment was. Fucking. Epic.

  • @kickmeandrun I did the exact same thing lol, such an epic ending for an epic game.

  • @kickmeandrun It took you that long to realize what was happening? I realized when I stopped getting shot at!

  • Great moment, I'm so glad I chose to rescue him
