I only saw Artie play once. It was around 1972. A guitar workshop at Cambridge Folk Festival with Artie and Happy, Steve Goodman and Isaac Guillory all crammed together onto this little wooden stand thing. I've never heard so much good music in my life. I still have most of it on tape, but what a shame no-one had a cine camera with them, we could be watching it on here now. And now Artie has left us too early, just as Steve and Isaac did before him. Life isn't fair really. But great memories.
So very sad to hear of Artie's death. I met him just before he did a Taylor demonstration here in Leeds. I wasn't sure how he would react to a stranger asking him to sign a 20 year old album (Mud Acres- a classic) but not only was he glad to talk about all the people on the cover etc. but also ended up asking about MY music, listening and chatting like a friend even after the roadie was desperately trying to get him onstage! A great musician clearly but a lovely lovely man.
Fond memories of Happy and Artie on Fathers Day, actually our first father's day, on long island in 1984. RIP Artie, the music world is sadder without you.
I didn't know he passed away. :( This guy was so nice. I remember he held the door for me and then after a show he stayed like half an hour to play guitar with me and teach me a song of his. And his wife was like, "Uh... come on... we gotta go... come on..." But he just played guitar with me as long as he could (until they were locking the doors to the place). :D
Now I no where Mark Hanson got his sound

I had no idea Artie has passed. A truly sad day for musicians, students of music and music lovers everywhere.
