watched the beat at the upton festival in worcestershire yesterday and there were the bollocks made my weekend, they played best friend and i was with my best friend we listened to them in the 80s and he was with me yesterday it dont get any better than that for me.Ranking Rodger and Murphy Ranking jnr and the rest of the beat respect, u sound as good as you ever did
bolly558 generally stations have moved with the times , i would love to host my own show that featured all my fave music of this great era .plus listeners choices as well .
@lilacwine44 Actually, I have always thought of them as The (English) Beat and think that's actually a more catch band name. The Beat just sounds so generic. True story - before youtube, I once went on a file sharing site and searched for their videos to download. Searching for 'English Beat' was a mistake because I got a bunch of videos of English lads pleasuring themselves!
I just played this video for my husband to show him why I sing this song EVERY time I hear "A Punk" by vampire weekend. Did vampire weekend pay these lads royalties for using their song????????
The Absolutely Brilliant Beat. Always were and always will be. Why do we never hear their amazing music on crappy British radio nowadays.... Thanks for posting the brill memories. Thank goodness for you tube.
@Bolly558 Its a shame I do not know how popular they were here in the U.S. Their music is brilliant! if this was in the 80's how come I never hear of them until a little while ago?
@videodude4 British bands play and are more popular on the East Coast. West coast people aren't into the same flavor of music. What a loss for West Coast Radio.
@ayshortier are you serious?? you have no clue. I'm WEST coast baby, I've been listening to the U.K. British invasion stuff since the 1979/1980-ish when I was a little little kid :p and hell no I'm not the only one, you're a dumbash who has NO freekin clue what you're talking about. You obviously have No merit for what you're saying so I will try not to go off on your comment too much ;) WEST COAST REPRESENT!!! ;) haha!
@Bolly558 because sadly music is now about making money as quick as possible and radio stations having set playlists - hence the reason why every time a radio station plays four tops it will usually be standinin the shadows of love or bernadette - bloody crazy - no wonder everyones got mp3 players
@iveco321 Exactly. Radio djs are absolutely antiquated, of course, useless. There are so many artists in whatever era, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. but the commercial hits are only what's known and not the one's who didn't get the spotlight as much as the others.

Not really a "Ska" group at all. Two-Tone yes but they only played a few ska songs and this isn't one of them.
