In "Young at Heart" she sang my song "Hold Me in Your Arms"----in the beach scene. What a thrill to have that happen. Lyrics by Charles Henderson (brilliant) and me. Written in one afternoon----heard that evening by Miss Day. She liked the song---the rest is history. Thank you Doris Day for the thrill of you singing one of my earliest songs. Don Pippin
Does the WACO in your name have to do with WACO, TX? I lived there in '83. I LOVE DORIS DAY..Did you know she started as a JAZZ SINGER IN CINCINNATTI? My favorite song is
"SECRET LOVE" & My favorite movie is "CALAMITY JANE", she played a tom-boy & I could relate to that. A woman with gumption, audacity& self-respect the way we were raised at the time..Good & SASSY! ha, ha..PEACE VIA MUSIC..VIVA MARIA!
It broke my heart when Laurie didn't marry Alex. In the original, the Barney character dies. But Sinatra just wouldn't! So it ruined the whole thing. If he had, Laurie and Alex could have got back together (as the couple did in the original). They were SO right together. There was no chemistry between Sinatra and Doris. I blame him, though!
I'm 60 and this is still my favorite movie of all time. It's the first video I ever bought. Gig Young may look great but she ends up married to Frank Sinatra and they lived happily ever after.......with Light'ning.
I am 42 and I would LOVE to meet doris day!!! I agree with the person who wants to go bak in time and meet her. I dont know how to sing, but just to listen to her in person would be a dream!! I so wish she would just come out in public, but I can understand her wanting to be private life. She was so much in the public eye that now she just wants to relax and enjoy life. Kudos for her
I am from Korea and I really sincerely wish I was born in the 40s or 50s in the U.S.
U.S. in its 40s and 50s : it's my ultimate dream....I could dedicate my entire life to develop a time machine just to go back to that time....and live in the U.S.
@d1dy0urm0m They were great times, a simpler life, great culture as seen and heard in the old radio shows, music and movies. But as a boy growing up in that period, all taken for granted.
I like the message of this song---there's a second chance for everybody, every broken heart---lovely sentiment. I'd like to get the music for it and sing it as my own tribute to this incredible lady.
my grandmother has such lovely tales of her younger years, when people believed in good manners and curteous behaviour," women" were ladies and"blokes" were gentlemen. its such a shame these ideals are no longer the way they were, back then you could go out all evening and leave your door open!!,to go back in time just for one day would be simply amazing children now just arent tought manners and etiquette which has a lot to do with societys decline...if you agree with me ..thumbs up please
Beautiful song, Doris makes every song she sings special, a great singer, and actress, wish she had made more movies, but I am thankful for the ones she made.. also I have You MY Love, that she does with Frank at the end of this movie, but I have the one where Doris sings the whole song by herself, Beautiful..
I adore this movie so much. I can honestly say I have no idea how many times I have watched it. I had it on video as a child and a dvd now. Timeless and wonderful.
Doris Day is lovely and beautiful in this scene...LOVE her sexy, sensual voice...also, catch that shot of the wonderful Dorothy Malone with her longing, lusting stare at Gig Young...WOW.,,,she looks sexy and deteremined.....!!!!!...look at Auntie Ethel Barrymore looking at Dorothy, old gal Ethel sees it too!!! Perfect editing on film...love it!!!
I love it as I do most of the songs that Doris Day and her contemporaries sang. The words are clear and would easily catch the tune. Thanks for posting it.
I look at this era as pure and innocent. Everyone looked so healthy and like DollyParton200009 said when men were gentleman and women had class. What type of romantic stories will this generation ever leave their grandchildren. There was no courting, the was no hard to get and was there ever real friendship apart from love. This is written from a twenty something who feels was born in the wrong time period. LOL
Thanks for uploading this memorable piece - I would love to relive that era as many of us would. The stars of that period are timeless and I'm glad there are youngsters out there who are able to carry this legacy forward. Thanks to people like you we are able to enjoy a great time past.

YOU just hold on to your good moral ideas. Life can be decent ; it's just so very hard to live it nowadays, though. You are very welcome; look at some more of the movies I uploaded, especially the Deanna Durbin ones, One Foot in Heaven, and The Man who played God. Have a great life and God bless you.
@WACOAGENTS - EXCELLENT advise and wisdom to Ms. Dolly Parton. As a father of a little 5 year old, I want to teach my daughter about high moral values, modesty, good honorable character. Hold on to your honor, your a child of God, worthy of respect, kindness, modesty, true friend. We shall have you in our prayers. An American Warrior Soldier and Dad. Be blessed.
@DollyParton2000009 I'm same age and I couldn't agree more. Today everyone want's to be different and special and actualy we are all so equall. DP-Ms. Day is a true angel from Heaven. God has blessed us with her talents. Her modesty, manners, politeness, a lady, displays high charater values for young girls to see and learn from. Today's female actress (not all, but most) are greatly lacking those social values. Ms. Day and my wife are roll models for my little girl to see on how true women should carry herself. I have always had the greatest respect & admiration for her. I love her voice & acting. An American Warrior Soldier and Dad.
Things were never that simple. There was a rigid black and white exterior imposed on a messy gray interior. It made life easier, or at least simpler, for those who fit the mold but left many others twisting in the wind.
@DollyParton2000009 I'm impressed by the fact that someone your age is nostalgic for this era. If only more people in general felt this way and insisted that music and movies return to an era of descency instead of all of the crap that you see and hear nowadays. This was Hollywoods golden era. The silent era up until the mid to late 1950s, and into the early 60s. You can see so many classic films on Turner Classic Movies.
this film is perfect from start to finish. I have to fight the tears from falling at the end. And the set, the actors, the clothes ,the songs, the plot - beautiful.
When I get blue, I pop in my Young at Heart dvd and relax for two hours with beautiful, talented Doris and the beaufiful musical score and I'm revived. Thank you Doris Day for sharing so much.
The ladies of the 20-60's had to be the best overall. The stars were the best. They had so much REAL sex appeal. They had real talent. They were just so refined and classy, perfect posture.
This is a song, this is a melody that reaches the soul and brings meaning, this is a class singer, that comes a long once in a lifetime...thanks for posting!
I love Doris Day. I've seen this movie many times. I think she and Frank Sinatra are really great. I really love him. He and she look so good together. They both have beautiful voices.
Doris Day is lovely and beautiful in this scene...LOVE her sexy, sensual voice...also, catch that shot of the wonderful Dorothy Malone with her longing, lusting stare at Gig Young...WOW.,,,she looks sexy and deteremined.....!!!!!
I remember seeing this film when I was young at heart. Doris Day had a wonderful voice and always appeared as the perreniel virgin. We all loved her and adored that marvellous voice.
From today Saturday 8-15-2009 moving forward. Please all of you, tell me what got you to this particular song. It is my all time favorite of Doris Day and I'm curious if you've heard it before or if this is your first time and truly what got you here?
I remember this song. Saw Young at Heart when I was young. I love all of her music and have seen all of her 39 movies. Could watch them all again and again.
One of my all time favorites, and I hadn't seen it or heard it in many a year. Thank you for sharing it with me.
How can you not love Doris Day? And this song still gives me goosebumps, maybe even moreso as I get a little older and it seems to have even more relevance.
Well, I know Doris Day from my mother, she adores her. I wacthed a couple of movies with her and... I love her :)
And sometimes I just feel like 'I need a little Doris now' and I've just been looking for something, no matter what. And then I found this video :) Whenever I see or listen to her I get remembered why I love her.
Oh Frankieheartsful. No Amy Winehouse. I'll be honest. I've never heard her voice. Because of you I just listened to her, a few actually and I have one question. Are you heavily medicated? You've got to be kidding to have compared Amy to the voice of Doris Day!
I have rented this movie YOUNG AT HEART from the library over and over again. I love this movie and this song. OH WOW.. What lyrics.. perfect for any of us in any situation. The room itself makes us all wish that was our family growing up. The love, the comfort, the house, the kitchen. If you've never seen the movie.. GET IT....you'll be very very glad you did. I love Doris Day.. They'll never be another like her. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i feel the same i wish ihad that family and the house is so cozy .i love this movie i watch it everytime it comes on turner classics..you couldnt ask for anything better frank and doris will be always loved..
"Frankieheartsful"...mmm...I don't know about that one. I'm a big Winehouse fan and love her soulful voice, but Doris' was just so beautiful and heavenly. I can't see Amy pulling off this style of singing and I can't see Doris doing Amy's style as well as her. They're both great.
Doris just made an appearance on radio for her 85th birthday and sang a breif line "theres a riseing moon for every falling star" epic and brilliant as usual..she should have a band show in vegas....85 wow
Doris Day would be saddened to see the declining quality of today's music industry.
What we need now is a real star like her. She has virtually "retired" from the show biz. If only she had been born four or five decades later than she actually was born.
Thanks to all who enjoy this. It seperates the wheat from the tare in those of us who appreciate it along w/such a wonderful bunch of actors doing a wonderful job making this story come to life. I hope Doris Day, especially, can know how many of us are out here.
@WACOAGENTS Altho this was before my time, somehow I get the feeling that these people were somehow timeless. I love Doris Day and this is a wonderful video.
@WACOAGENTS I love it as I do most of the songs that Doris Day and her contemporaries sang. The words are clear and would easily catch the tune. Thanks for posting it.
Hearing a lovely song like this, I cannot understand why so many younger generations get crazy about hip-hops and R&B. The music industry today seems to emphasize only rhythm; what matters more is the melody.
Operalover. You hit the nail on the head. Music today makes me sick to my stomach. A bunch of idiots with their pants hanging down to their knees trying to rhyme words to A BEAT of a sound and for some ungodly known reason IT is popular. Makes me so glad I was raised in the 50s & 60s . I hate rap with a passion and what it represents which to me is total disgust. I am found of the gaslight era like meet me in st louis style. How sweet!!
What a wonderful song, and movie. Doris Day and the entire cast were exceptional. Everynow and then when I need a pick-me-up I put on "Young at Heart" and remain breathless for about two hours. Sure it is hoaky with a Hollywoood finish, but I can tolerate that. I also believe Doris Day is one of the top female singers of the 20th Century
I have always felt that You Tube is replete with precious videos. And this song is no exception. I am too young to have seen Doris Day perform on the stage. Her voice, however, is timeless and priceless. Thank you for uploading this video.
This is StevieH's wife, Laurie. Young at Heart is my all time favorite movie. I know it is depressing in parts, but I just can't resist it. It was the fave movie of my mom, whose name is Fran. Mom was an absolute Sinatra nut! I'm telling you, I make the gingerbread, I decorate one heck of a tree and I am an eternal optimist! Must be something with the Laurie name. It will always be my fave!
Watching this song again, and considering Barney's thoughts, not wonder he tries committing suicide. It's so depressing. He thinks he's messed up her life, that she'd be happier having married Gig. He thinks his death would give her that moon. T.T Everyone seems so pleased to see Day and Gig together again, how can you blame him... See what I mean from 1:02 to 1:09. And to top it off the sister he said would be crushed lookss happier than ever just after that....
Hey - I just caught a whiff of that Christmas tree. Sure would be nice to go back in time and visit that bunch wouldn't it? Even aunt Jesse looks good to me. I just lost my mom in Dec. I had a feeling this was going to be a really good Christmas this year for some reason; I had no idea it was going to be for my mom. It wasn't so great for me.
I love the little look she gives Frank when she sings "And a bright tomorrow for each girl and boy" Sweet...and a perfect line for how he has been feeling. His time is coming and she believes in him! Great movie!
Haha, it just hit me. One ironic thing I love about this movie- the man is the home wrecker (a refreshing change). Seriously- poor Barney. *glomps Frank Sinatra*
Yep, I agree. Glomps?? Are we talking glooms? I can't seem to find "glomps" in Merriam Webster. You've got me stumped here. Don't go to messing with my mind-I'm too old. hehehe
Seriously I love this movie. Thanks for stopping by.
A glomp is what my friend always calls the enthusiastic fan-girl bear hug. ^_^ I love this movie sooo much too. This scene is sad because Barney says at the door he would need her close by and she abandons him the second they're inside. T.T
O K A Y ~~:) You are right; I hadn't thought about the fact Doris is close to Gig all around that pretty piano. She surely did learn that song fast too didn't she? Ha.. Regarding Gig, Frank, and Doris, I'd hate to have to judge who gave the best performance. I continue to say Ernie,(plumber) was a hit in my book. As it was said; the way he took charge at the wedding, showed his real worth. Also, for this to be a re-make and actually be a better movie is rare. Later. JM
Love Doris Day! Too bad about Gig. I saw him in the three Doris Day movies, The Three Musketeers(with Gene Kelly, The Desk Set,A Ticklish Affair (he was the leading man)and They Shoot Horses Don't They?.
Check out Dorothy Malone giving one of the most lustful looks ever shown on the screen to Gig Young....wow....check out that look--she was determined!
I love everything about Doris Day. Look at her collar. I remember when they were popular--you wore them w/button-up sweaters. She is such a joy to see. I hope she's happy these days living in Carmel w/her pets. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for stopping by. I agree; Doris - such a talent! This movie is very special to me. Memories; looking back; as we reach what is called our senior- golden years- not so sure about the golden part. It's like visiting old frineds; being a music lover who plays piano doesn't hurt a thing either. I think I'll go play right now and have some more good memories. Just call me a "Lot's wife" I suppose....
Thanks for the response. Yes, I also a long-time Doris Day fan. You are so lucky to be able to play the piano; I'm taking lessons and at my age it's very, very difficult. But Doris Day's voice is just so unique and sweet. Take care.
Each time I confirm my theory Doris Day is one of the greatest singer the States gave and of course one of the finest vocalist in the same highest level of Fitzgerald
I to believe they should do a big show on her show all her movies.I love this picture also. just the way they made movies back then, the sets they way they dress so neat. this home makes me miss the my family the way everyone got together for sunday dinners, boy oh boy do i feel sorry for the kids today they have no sense of being at a dinner table with family or spending time in those wonderful old time kitchens. just saw this movie again thee other day and made me smile. thanks doris.
Does people realize Doris Day is the greatest diva that it is still with us ?They must do tributes to Doris Day in the States, she is aliving legend, a superb vocalist, great actress, superstar, lady of the screen
I wish they would give her more credit. I think with the lifetime Grammy and some new books about her coming out whe might get more recognition...she certainly deserves it !!
Totally agree, she IS the best singer of our time, i just know of no one elso who can put so much feeling into their singing, her voice is liquid gold.
Great comments. This was a truly wonderful movie. They will never make them like this anymore. Movies have gone sucky dicky Star Bores animation.
Today it's animation.
No imagination.
No romance.
Not a chance.

It isn't all or nothing.
Druezer 9 months ago
@DollyParton2000009 I'm impressed by the fact that someone your age is nostalgic for this era. If only more people in general felt this way and insisted that music and movies return to an era of descency instead of all of the crap that you see and hear nowadays. This was Hollywoods golden era. The silent era up until the mid to late 1950s, and into the early 60s. You can see so many classic films on Turner Classic Movies.

this film is perfect from start to finish. I have to fight the tears from falling at the end. And the set, the actors, the clothes ,the songs, the plot - beautiful.

The ladies of the 20-60's had to be the best overall. The stars were the best. They had so much REAL sex appeal. They had real talent. They were just so refined and classy, perfect posture.

Could watch them all again and again.
mssandy90 2 years ago
One of my all time favorites, and I hadn't seen it or heard it in many a year. Thank you for sharing it with me.
How can you not love Doris Day? And this song still gives me goosebumps, maybe even moreso as I get a little older and it seems to have even more relevance.
RoyalBear 2 years ago
Well, I know Doris Day from my mother, she adores her. I wacthed a couple of movies with her and... I love her :)
And sometimes I just feel like 'I need a little Doris now' and I've just been looking for something, no matter what. And then I found this video :) Whenever I see or listen to her I get remembered why I love her.
And that's my story ;)

I think that Amy Winehouse can give her a run for the money!

Hearing a lovely song like this, I cannot understand why so many younger generations get crazy about hip-hops and R&B. The music industry today seems to emphasize only rhythm; what matters more is the melody.
Operalover12002 2 years ago 3

I also believe Doris Day is one of the top female singers of the 20th Century
thejonquil 3 years ago 4
I have always felt that You Tube is replete with precious videos. And this song is no exception. I am too young to have seen Doris Day perform on the stage. Her voice, however, is timeless and priceless. Thank you for uploading this video.

I thought Gig Young was a handsome man.

It will always be my fave!
stevieh46360 3 years ago 3

Haha, it just hit me. One ironic thing I love about this movie- the man is the home wrecker (a refreshing change). Seriously- poor Barney. *glomps Frank Sinatra*
ScottTart 3 years ago
Yep, I agree. Glomps?? Are we talking glooms? I can't seem to find "glomps" in Merriam Webster. You've got me stumped here. Don't go to messing with my mind-I'm too old. hehehe
Seriously I love this movie. Thanks for stopping by.
WACOAGENTS 3 years ago
A glomp is what my friend always calls the enthusiastic fan-girl bear hug. ^_^ I love this movie sooo much too. This scene is sad because Barney says at the door he would need her close by and she abandons him the second they're inside. T.T
ScottTart 3 years ago
O K A Y ~~:) You are right; I hadn't thought about the fact Doris is close to Gig all around that pretty piano. She surely did learn that song fast too didn't she? Ha.. Regarding Gig, Frank, and Doris, I'd hate to have to judge who gave the best performance. I continue to say Ernie,(plumber) was a hit in my book. As it was said; the way he took charge at the wedding, showed his real worth. Also, for this to be a re-make and actually be a better movie is rare. Later. JM

WACOAGENTS 3 years ago
Thanks for the response. Yes, I also a long-time Doris Day fan. You are so lucky to be able to play the piano; I'm taking lessons and at my age it's very, very difficult. But Doris Day's voice is just so unique and sweet. Take care.
