I like to vacuum my pool while the multiport is on waste and that way lower the level of the pool through the main drain system, which is by the way is how you should drain the pool. Not sure why they brought in the pump to draing the water.
I make it a habit to never move a pump by it's power cord, clamp down the discharge hose and position the pump by holding onto the discharge hose. You'll never have to worry about the power cord breaking on the pump.
