The surgery is done out of growth-zones so the treatment does not affect natural progress. With achondroplasia problem the body is growing but the legs, arm are not. So there is a body to legs and hands disproportion. With the surgery it is possible to lengthen limb and after the treatment body become proportional. It should be done 3 stages at age of 4-9 years old and 15-16 years old to complete the body proportions to normal one.
@pavelkorsun that does make more sense but i am also wondering how he in 20 years or so will feel about "being fixed" obviously it is a very different situation but i have a friend that was born profoundly deaf and as a young child her parents had her get cochlear implants to help her hear but as an adult she gets backlash from the rest of the deaf community that she wasnt broken and they feel she shouldnt have gone through the procedure i dont know what the dwarf community think about surgery
It is good if in your country there are support groups that could help for short person to socialize. The problem in many countries that there are no special schools and support groups. So children with achondroplasia going to usual schools and other kids make their life uncomfortable. That is more psychological problem because they feel uncomfortable with other kids.
i dont understand why would you do this before he finishes growing naturally, wont this affect his natural process
