Why do people 1) always criticise videos and 2) always compare martial arts? It´s like the childish "my dad is bigger than yours" - pointless. These are demos, not fights. All martial arts have their values, pros and cons. Choose one that suits you for the right reasons then train very hard and it will be effective. They all work if done properly. Most of the detractors on here have enough trouble spelling correctly, let alone actually doing some training. Stop moaning and get to the dojo.
BJJ comes from Judo which comes from several styles of japanese jiujitsu which were designed for battle against armed opponents. Same as Aikido. The only difference between the three is their Philosophy. More so for Aikido because of O'Sensei's religious standpoint. But if you took the philosophy out of Aikido you'd have Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu which is one of the oldest Japanese jiujitsu's. Daito-ryu also game birth to Hapkido.
Yes, much of aikido is unrealistic but you seem to not realise that aikido is infact a grappling art. I would love to see aikido vs BJJ. That would be interesting eh?
For beginner they thought it would be hard to use this in real life but it takes years and years of practice to master aikido.. Once you master it your mind will react immediately and you can apply different of techniques... If you have doubts try to go to any aikido dojo near you and challenge any black belter you see..
Let me get this right rizalzenbudo, you say you don't practice Aikido, but you are sure this Aikido Master is doing it all wrong, is that correct. think about what you are sayng. We get morons like you on the Wing Chun sites all the time.
why does aikido always perceive attacks come as a single shot in one straight line. It's so unreal and misleading.
By the way this guy performs sayu nage like a strike while it's not supposed to be that way. I dont practice aikido but i observe it keenly, so im sure this guy is doing it wrong
@rizalzenbudo Also, if you claim to keenly you would now that they DON'T assume an attack comes in a straight line. I've been watching these for 3 days and I can see that. Attacks don't come in one shot but as a string of actions yes, but the point is to disrupt this sequence using the enemies momentum...
with the way the nage performs the kick, it's very easy to tackle by using any technique, use it against a real muaythai or kyokushin athlete and you'll break your arms in two pieces.
By the way, MT rarely use rear kick as opener, they tend to use foot jabs or low kick to open the opponent's defense, never open an attack with full force rear kick
Hey, this is on my next belt test. As always, a great video. Most experts on expert village aren't. You're a welcome exception. ...not all it's cracked up to be- too funny.
look at all the numerous factors of speed first: relax, holistic integrated movement & power, minimal physical movement but holistic instantaneous power, high integral structure vs lack of integral structure, reading & acting on opponent's intent b4 opponent can even act, etc
all these factors determine the effecacy & speed. but most important when dealing w/ internal arts is how relaxed a person is physically, mentally, spiritually
The side step/hold/strike ( and take down) combination is also used to great effect in jujitsu and having had some experience of watching the higher belts (brown - black) do some randori practice work... it is an effective method to defend against a straight kick.
WAY more sensible that trying to block a kick with counter-force with the arms (considering the legs are about 3 times stronger than arms).
you never gonna understand until you try it. remember the hands could be faster than the feet up to 5times. the feet stretching in that distance close to the dynamic sphere is very easy to counter. i have seen this technique being applied in what you call MMA and is very effective, eventually they dont know how to apply sayu nage if do they could takedown their opponent easily! no sweat!

@wulfy77 Aikido won't work if;
1. You are blind and can't see what you're opponent is going to do.
2. Unable to be calm and flinching.
Aikido only needs ONE opening, then their opponents are pretty much screwed.

No kidding genius, that's why the video says "Kick Defense." Go look at choke and grapple defenses if that's what you want to see.

come on this aikido is useless against grapplers , Brazilian jiu jitsu.

This seems cool, but I feel like a lot of aikido techniques would only work against a slow opponent.
If someone fast threw a good fast snap kick there's no way you could catch it.
bushwhacker2k 2 years ago
so that's why in Aikido, you should enter before you're attacked, or, it's semi striking...
