if only elephants have a more versatile tongue, then they could literally learn and speak the human language. Their brains are much bigger than ours. Plus, an elephant's trunk is as versatile as the human hand. If they can communicate like us, they can replace humans as the intelligent specie on earth. Imagine a world run by elephants...
@pokenei Brain size is related to body size. So human brains are still bigger relative to our body size. Also our brains are more complex. Although elephants are still very smart.
@Brownsc3 I didn't mean large animals have big brains. I meant brain size is relative to body size when working out intelligence. Our brains compared to our body are bigger then an Elephants relative to it's body.
You have just shown my point with a T-rex, it was not very smart.
@ojideagu Actually, elephant brains are more complex than human brains and have larger cerebral cortexes. Based on various metrics, it's entirely possible that elephants are close to the intelligence of "dull" humans, and probably smarter than chimps and dolphins. But elephants are much different from humans, so we are biased in favor of chimps. Elephants also seem to have a capacity for emotion on par with humans. It's a shame that elephants are often treated so poorly. (So are some humans...)
Mr. Kelley FTW. Hoover sucks balls. Crayons will die. Tacos suck ass. Crippled Kid Baird will get killed bitch. And to Mr. Rice, this isn't my real account, I only made this to make this comment.
That is awesome but hardly surprising since elephants are quite possibly the world's most intelligent animal. They are incredibly witty and real 'thinkers' it will be interesting to see what other discoveries will be made about these animals. Dialects are now a possibility, too.
90% of the words he says are not actual words. They are only some babbling or mumbling like a baby. But a few words are very accurate and exact. Such things are "Ghajha" (meaning "let's go") , "Ahndweh" (Don't do) , etc. TV news showed that the voice of this elephant were very similar to his tamer. The elephant might have been acting or playing his tamer.
@whereismarty@whereismarty Additionally He says "Nooweo" (lie down), "Anja" (Sit down). According to Korean news, he seems that he wants to communicate with his trainer. What a adorable elephant~ :)

@ojideagu Brain size is not related to body size, other than the size of the animal's head; a the brain of a T-Rex is the size of a pea.

Feel sorry, very sorry for a lone elephant in a very cold climate on hard concrete decade after decade. This is way too sad.

That's nuts! He's forcing air through his trunk and squeezing it with his mouth to make the tones. Incredible.

Pretty funny if you think about it, but indeed, dialects are possible to the I guess^^
Btw: Elephants already have dialects, origining from their home herd, or grounds.

He sounds like he's trying to deepthroat himself. As was mentioned, a translation would make this actually interesting.

TV says this elephant dosen't have any fine tongue, and the elephant uses his well-trained nose instead of the tongue to make human-like sound.
