But I do have to inform you, that the title of the national anthem of Germany is "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" ("Unity and justice and freedom"). It is the third stanza of Fallersleben's poem to the music of Joseph Haydn. The first stanza "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" is not sung anymore! Read it at Wikipedia:
"In the 1840s, when the text was written, there was no unified German state and it was uncertain if there would ever be one. The Napoleonic Wars had helped to give the German people a national identity of sorts, but had not unified them as a state." Believe it: The text was written long time before the horrible crimes the German people committed! I really adore your guitar versions of the national anthems. But I do have to inform you, that the title of the national anthem of Germany is "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" ("Unity and justice and freedom"). It is the third stanza of Fallersleben's poem to the music of Joseph Haydn. The first stanza "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" is not sung anymore! Read it at Wikipedia:

"In the 1840s, when the text was written, there was no unified German state and it was uncertain if there would ever be one. The Napoleonic Wars had helped to give the German people a national identity of sorts, but had not unified them as a state." Believe it: The text was written long time before the horrible crimes the German people committed! I really like the third stanza, (the second stanza is kind of a drinking song) our national anthem, because it is really beautiful!

I like the way you set the people straight about the history of the German national anthem. I, myself, have posted several comments about the US national anthem being sung in Spainish. I am part German, but I am a US citizen. Someday I would like to visit Germany, but I wouldn't try to change your anthem to English. That would be disrespectful to your heritage. Your anthem is very beautiful, just as ours is to the US (sung in the original English, of course)!

"Der Horst Wessel Lied" was the official national anthem during the years of WW2. However, in the movie "Escape to Victory" this sound (Beutschland über alles) is played as the SS team enters the pitch.

Jesus imcozy67, get over it. I bet you looked at the word "Germany" and instantly though Nazi eh? It was over 60 years ago. The Germans have changed since then. Whilst we should never forget the atrocities that happened, stereotying all things German as Nazi makes you no better than them.

If you knew anything about History and weren't a complete idiot you'd know that the Nazis banned this national anthem and made their own one. This original was only reinstated in 1945 after the war had ended. Educate yourself, otherwise you're endorsing enthic cleasing, namely of uberstupid people like yourself.

You have no idea! This is not a nazi-anthem! It was composed by joseph hayden. If you do not know hayden, then you must be totally ignorant. It is like not knowing Mozart or Bach! It is the anthem of the German Democracy and Hitler hated this anthem. You retard! How would you like it if I kept on and on about the concentration camps the indians were put into by the U-SS-A? Would you think that is a balanced view of your nation?
