  • This was number one the day I was born. No wonder I'm one messed up individual.

  • Esther Ofarim is not only a superb singer but is an incredibly beautiful woman. Who also has a quality that is possibly rarer than both. True style. To be fair, that bloke with her is a pretty cool geezer to.

  • awesome

  • They don't have the same sound as Anne and Johnny Hawker. I prefer them anyday, this sounds like a bad copy. But i don't know which was the original, can someone please help me? Gary

  • 43 years old! Not merely 40 yrs as some on here say. I can't believe it !

  • Amazed to find this classic was written by Mason Williams of Classical Gas fame. Particularly as the pieces are so markedly different.

  • thumbs up if still game brought you here :)

  • The best thing about the video is watching the half empty streets of London. Space to breath back then unlke today.

  • Awesome.. I was born the following year and until now I'd never heard of Esther & Obi but as a toddler I loved Pinky & Perky's version.

is the writer the same Mason Williams who did Classical Gas? The 2 tunes are worlds apart (but both great).

  • I was 6 and i had to bring it up as I cant stop singing it ,,,,,,,

  • @Eyatn Oops, I just looked at your profile, and I can't believe that it is you, the great Ester Ofarim, what an honor.

  • @Eyatn Thanks so much, yes that was them, they were so funny doing this song.

I wasat the studio when they were filming it.

How did you know or remember?

Do you know if there is a clip of it online?

    Toda

  • I remember my dad, Mel Keller, played this song on the Israeli TV in the early 70'.

I just don't remember who sang it, I just remember 2 men did it.

    Anyone remembers or knows?

  • I wasn't alive when this was made, but it's my favorite youtube video ever!

  • That skirt was short. Esther Ofarim was gorgeous. Gotta love those sexy Israeli girls

  • mason williams wrote this.

  • For me too it was 41 years ago and I was 13 then !! youth memories !!!

  • @paddyotay It got to number one in the charts and is the song that brought them to the public eye more than anything else they've done.

  • oh my! I was 9 when this came out and remember it being a HUGE hit. Music was great in those days.

  • This was #1 on the day i was born

  • I love this song/thanks for posting it.

  • Number one the day I was born, why do they look like they are wearing masks?

  • Classic.

  • Great song. And now I found the lyrics.

I always thought it means "Yodel-Lady" instead of "You're the lady" - so it was rather difficult to find it. ;-)

  • beautiful :D shalom shalom to everyone :)

  • creepy alright he looks like the adams family butler !!!!!!

  • Dobra stara melodija!

  • Ein Super-Paar. Sie haben sehr gute Musik gemacht. Schade, dass sie sich getrennt haben.

  • They where man and wife , not brother and sister. This thing went to no 1 in the UK. The funny thing about all the married couples who topped the UK charts is that up until at least the mid 1980's all of them never stayed together

  • Me too! Number one on my birthday....they were brother and sister....creepy!

  • eehhuuhhh brother&sister ,ooww for this they divorce after .

  • @nickymitch Mine too!!

  • I love this xD

It's quirky and different. Interesting, and I think it's cute.

  • omg, this is so CATCHY! i've had it in my mind all day!!

  • I absolutely hate it, too. You hear it in the morning, it stays in your head all the day long - and no girl you see has eyes as beatiful as Esther´s. GRRRR!

  • @bardalinokid

Why are you looking for it on youtube?

  • I forget the other groups. it's the same reaction for the New Vaudeville band and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beacky, Mick and Tich, The Equals, Manfred Mann, Herman Hermits, David Mc Williams, georgie Fame an of course The Beatles, The Shadows and Cliff Richard.

  • forty-one years back. I was just 13 years old when i listened it . Thank you youtube

  • @bilou1955

I'm 13 now and I've just found this... I love it!

  • @bilou1955

Why do these idiots on TV and radio keep saying the pop video was invented in the 1970s with Bohemian Rhapsody! Here is a simple pop vid for "Cinderella", and there are plenty more in the 1960s, some quite arty, like the Beatles' Strawberry Fields

  • so much fun, i love it

  • fabulous used to dance round the house to this for some reason found it even better speeded up hehe

  • This was in the charts when I was in school, I remember it with great affection!

  • Ist lol

  • the new lady gaga and akon :D

  • i luv ur chin chinny chin chin hehe

  • I love this song and video. It's so quarky! Proves to me even more that I was definitely born in the wrong generations.

Let me live in the 60s, please.

  • Don't worry, they'll probably come around again soon.

  • this was number 1 when i was born

what a crap welcome to the world

  • I love this! my aunt got married, same year this came out in a very similar outfit - shame it was fluorescent green! oh, and that she was, shall we say, not quite the same size or shape as Esther!

  • lovely! they are superb !

    Very nice song :]

  • Adoro!

  • lol this is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet ♥♥

  • not a bad song, even better with the Routemasters!

  • Apparently, one of the main reasons Esther married Abi was so she could get out of the Israeli army. Still, their musical combo was fantastic. In this clip she looks a bit like Alma Cogan with all that big hair, the fancy outfit and the make-up. Thanks for posting this gem Eyatn. Much appreciated. ;-)

  • They're so cute together n_n

  • Great song by Esther and Abi Ofarim

  • I heard this song only one very short time on the radio and this was like 11 years ago... but somehow it got stuck in mind forever. This is the first time since then that i hear it again!

  • OMG - cant believe I found this! My cousin and I used to have to do our Christmas turn to this -- dressed up exactly like them!! Says a lot ... for how I turned out! hehehe!

  • Cute :-)

  • @Eyatn they are both Israelies who lived then in London

  • @pinkpolyanthus are you a cross dressing cutie!!!!

  • From a very early age it would appear! It explains a lot!! ;)

  • God how I wish I was in London!!! This song was actually played in the U.S. Thanks for posting this seldom heard gem.

  • they are both Israeilies

  • "I love your touch!" "Thank you so much!"

    so aodrbale <3

  • Hmm they look so familiar...

  • lmao

  • Another one of my dad's records that I listened to endlessly as a child. Wonderful memories - and look at the complete lack of traffic and people!

  • as it was shot in the early moning hours ;)

  • I agree with you at the lack of traffic and people, and the wonderful memories, being an ex-Londoner I am puzzled as to what time of day this was really filmed? Fun though..thanks for posting this video

  • Einfach klasse!!! Danke!

  • Great to see this video! What a classic song!

  • Please don't let us lose this priceless video!

  • im so glad this is on you tube. i bought this on vinyl the week it came out. the film brings back memories.thanks a lot

  • Weirdly arty film. Black and white with colours splashed in here and there! Like something out of experimental Expressionist cinema!

Oh yes, great song as well!

  • Brings back memories, used to love this song!

  • I also first heard this in "Walk on Water"! I love it.

  • Klasse, erinnert mich an so gute Zeiten die

nie wieder kehren!Ich mochte die Ofarims zu

    gerne!

  • Great to see genuine 60's traffic and weren't those miniskirts the greatest! I was 21 when this song made its debut and am still deeply in love with my Cinderella. It was wonderful to find this video and song after all these years. Thank you!!

  • My ex-boyfriend wanted us to sing this at our wedding. Ah well.

  • Wow what memories, me and my brother used to mime to this!!

  • This brings back memories. Great! Thanks for putting this video on.

  • love this song.look at songs now!

  • This was the first song that i ever sang

  • I first hear this song from the movie

    " Walk on Water "

    amazing !

  • My 2 brothers used to sing this in Leyton Trades Working Mens Club in London, my eldest brother used to be the "girl" and put on a wig. They used to often do this type of comedy act.

  • Esther, sensational looks, sensational voice. Thank you for posting this clip Eyatn

  • Hi Esther & Abi - long time, no hear. I love your touch, not that I felt it, but thanks very much for the thought. The sixties scenery is great, almost as if we were World Soccer Champions. Shame marriage is so unopopular now and everyone's so cynical; I can imagine the lyrics of a 21st Century version:

"You're the lady, you're the lady that I shagged.." It just doesn't sound right.

    Great song, though.

  • Thanks for this posting.I remember singing this song when I was about 10 years old.I sang it with my friend in a duet at our end og term party. We got dressed up to copy Esther and Abi.What a voice Esther!

  • Is this realy Stephen and Irene Schmideg of Caulfield Victoria...I think so!!

  • Glad to finally find this. People thought I was crazy when I told them about this song.I might be crazy but I knew that I didn't make up this song. A really fun song!

  • very nice video, muy bien gracias!

  • This song is in Walk on Water, a must see movie.

  • i was about 4 and this was one of my favourite songs !

infact,my mother or aunt bought it for me on 45...

    this is indeed a treat

  • lol i sang this on karaoke last night its was so funny. its very katchy

  • Groovetabulous

  • this is so good

  • Wow, that brought back memories of a wonderful time in the late 60's in England. Thanks

  • FANTASTIC

  • What everyone has failed to mention is this was inspired by RAGTIME. Keith Moon should have been inthat video.

  • Very cool and quirky.

  • I love this - it's timeless besides the 20ies vibe. thank you so much for sharing this with us!

  • Abi looks very much like Engelbert Humperdink. The B side of this record was slightly better than the A side, i can't remember the title of it.
