Amazing. One could almost cry. I love how she twines her trunk around the baby's to try and lift the head. It almost looks rough, bu I guess when a little one isn't breathing it can take a bit of tough love!

I've seen a number of human births, and it seems true that sometimes our own babies come out a stunned and sluggish. I can imagine this little elephant was stunned after a much shorter labor than a human one and a fall like that into cold night air!

Because it hurts, lol! We also have a much bigger baby skull (proportionally speaking) to push through our cervix and pelvis. Our labors are also rather long compared to an elephant's.

Some women are pretty quiet, too. It depends on her own makeup, how tense she is during labor, her cultures take on birth, etc. And making noise can release tension, which speeds up a birth.
