However, in all fairness, there is little difference between today's Mexican immigrants and the immigrants of the late ninteenth and early twentieth centuries. They're simply human beings who want the chance to make a living and support their families, and their own country doesn't provide them with that opportunity, so they come here. What we need to do is secure the border, and then establish an effective quota program.

I'm all for states rights except that having states rights does not make one immune from external social or cultural forces. and these forces along with the anglo/euro base of USA makes USA what it is, and gives USA it's core identity. therefore creating free states within good ole USA sandwiched between 2 distinct countries and 1 very different culture of Mexico, means that all the free states in USA will still be just like any other state. I live in Oklahoma. It is a very... neo-conish state. The big states right thing going on is that the state government is refusing to comply with the real ID act. And it is turning very very ugly. Though the state required us to have our thumb prints taken for our driver's licenses anyway earlier this decade to 'protect us from identity theft'. So yeah, state government is oppressive too here.

Its a mixed bag. You could do a lot worse.
