Rave on John -- how, what and whom I love most certainly IS defined by me! It's integral to my nature and has everything to do with the way I live in a real world. No god had to tell me to love or how to go about it. It's one of the adaptations with which human evolution equipped us. Perhaps you've never known REAL love (of truth, of a buddy, of beauty and striving) and settled for an inferior substitute -- loving a hateful phantasm. Like a lonely child, you've invented an imaginary 'friend'.

this was so comforting for me to understand because I always feel terrible that I don't "feel" this warm fuzzy love for God. yet I want to serve Him and know Him, because I fear Him and know He is worthy. I know that He can do anything, and put love in my heart for Him and others that I may not yet have.

I know exactly what you mean, however, when you serve the Lord, declaring His righteousness, His mercy, His graciousness, His longsuffering, His abounding in goodness and truth, His Holy Spirit will touch you and you will feel His love for you and your heart will be filled with love ... For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 ... Blessings.
@speedo202 His Holy Spirit will touch you .. Th holy spirit is a joke. He was supposed to guide the church. To inspire every bible reader, interpreter and translator in the right direction. But he was lazy and let the faith into 35,000 different denominations. Quite a job. LOL Fire this nut. He is not worth the minimum wage.
