  • Because m tired of maturity airport insecurity Runnin from the Thought Police fightin' with the go-betweens Hold up let me steal a breath Cause we're dealin' with identity theft (You need an education) I don't see why I got to (You need a good degree) As to assimilate So little time so much to be bored by If no one trod along Harvard lawn no one'd make a nuclear bomb They don't teach you how to care empathisin' if you dare

Euthanize your sense of fair play better to obey

  • smart... clever...witty ... very entertaining... and cute as a cut button

  • idots go to college to get dumbed down!

  • @stepgree I think she's referring to liberty university on that one.

  • i feel like ur saying katie perry stole this girls personnality just ironic that you put the first song being "Identity theft"

  • Awesome.

  • She is like the female vertion of Robbie Williams

  • @silvia6303 You gotta be fucking kidding us.

  • catchy songXD

  • WHERE CAN I FIND BASS TABS OR NOTATION FOR THIS SONG?????

I've looked everywhere and can't find them...

  • "violence in religion--don't ever play with nuns" LOL!!

  • Ahhh! Can't stop listening to this. Hilarious.

  • you know i play the trumpet, this inspiers me :) thumbs up!

  • what she say bout effin a rabbit?? lol

  • She kinda looks like Marina & the Diamonds but blonde.

  • By the way, "Where'd you get that vegan dress, a flea market? Oops, I forgot, you design for Target." was my FAVOURITE line EVER. That is just too hilarious.

  • Oh my god...yes<3

  • She's got this strange 90's accent. Sometimes when I watch period pieces from the beginning of analytic philosophy in the U.S. I get this feeling of strange clarity and familiarity, I get it when I hear her inflection. Really bizarre.

  • this song is SO FUNNY!!!

  • SHES A PURE GENIUS! Where has society gone these days?! We need more of HER!epicness!

  • Ugh! Where can I download this song?!

  • 4 people have had their identity stolen.

  • I love Nellie's songs! I also like The Dog Song. she is fantastic! The in Crowd is funny, in an ironic, sarcastic sort of way

  • Folsom Prison Blues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes! and she sneaks in "don't ever play with guns....".which of course...

  • NELLIE McKay is possibly one of the most "undersung" talents around. Great voice, very clever satirical lyrics ... I've followed her career fror several years now and she just gets better and better, Plus the first song I heard was titled "David!" .... and I was hooked.

    david melbourne oz

  • Because I'm tired of being sweet and nice

Fuck you once and fuck you twice <3

  • Her voice is so Holly Golightly!

I would be in heaven if I met a woman with even 3/5 of her talent, intelligence, beauty and ethics and charm!

  • i deserve it I suppose, reckless fingers

  • nobody NEEDS an education. Still, this is my back t school song. Who kidnapped my videos? Every guy I went to try says I fight him but I can't think why?

  • Pluto's still a planet

  • She's fantastic!!! =D

And I love the random Ray Bolger reference haha!

  • @DorisDayFanatic I don't think the reference to Ray Bolger was random. I believe it refers to the fact that he famously played a character with no brain.

  • @diamonddog13 Wow, very true...I never looked at it like that. =)

  • you can tell shes having i great time its cool

  • Where'd you get that vegan dress? A FLEA MARKET!?

  • uncorrupted?

  • The girl has guts and that's one of the best things about her. that is also what makes Visitors such a great album. She isn't concerned about who she offends and at the same time is making fun of herself in the process.

  • Obligatory Villagers is my least favorite of her albums, but it's still great. This is by far the most stand out song. And I agree with the earlier statements, Nellie is totally awesome when it's just her and the piano, but I like the arranged version of this song more.

  • i like this girl, she has guts :)

  • awesome lyrics!

  • ☻/

    /▌

/ .. Is it just me but I think this song is better live. That can't be said about all songs.

  • While I agree with that on some of Nellie's songs, I have to go against you on this one. The musicianship and arrangements on this album are so exquisite that they can't be duplicated in a live performance, particularly with just Nellie on the piano. It is a totally different experience.

  • I heard Nellie perform this song on Prarie Home Companion and it was 10x better than the recording. She is amazing

  • I wasn't referring to Prairie Home Companion. The PHC performance was terrific (and superior to the album) because she had a world class band behind her. But in most of her concerts she performs alone. On many of her songs this works better than the recordings, but I think this song in particular is better with the full orchestration. It's a matter of taste.

  • Very true!!! That show was insane, I love the intro - Garrison - "We can't wait for all the mail we are going get for our next guest..."

  • They did get a ton of mail about Mother of Pearl. A lot of Garrison's listeners were shocked, shocked, that he would allow someone to sing a song that mentions rape and child molestation in the lyrics.

  • hahahaha dammmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • My God!

    This is Badass!

  • Pluto's still a planet!

  • @idalillebostad

It is. It's classified as a dwarf planet, along with Ceres, Haumea, Makemake and Eris.

  • @idalillebostad Unlucky to be top rated comment now... poor neglected pluto.

  • not since paul simon have i sat up and taken any notice of anyones lyrics ,,,,the bonus is her voice is sincere even though she portays sattire

  • yes man ,she's real urbane and a damn comedienne...plus , she sweet and honest and purdy and ....yes , i'm a big fan , man...love the beatles cover on here...

  • ignorance is a right, not a privilege! XD

  • "Shun violence and religion, don't play with nuns"

    xD!!!!!

  • This song is addictive. :3

  • I haven't been able to get the lyrics out of my head since I first heard it a month ago. And I try to catch Prairie Home Companion more now just to see if I can "discover" another gem like Nellie.

  • Oh, yeah - some of the best stuff out there you can catch on PHC. I loved "Bramble and the Rose," GK sang it with AS in November 2008 - the 15th, I think, if you want to catch it on the archive.

  • I have had:

"Show your passport get that stamp, funny like a Nazi camp"

In my head since I 1st heard this song.

  • Sweet.

  • "F you once and f you twice Show your passport, get that stamp Funny like a nazi camp.."

    Go Nellie

  • This girl is amazing. GOD I HATE THE RADIO, this is someone who's god some real stuff on her mind to say....and thats what real song writing is about!

  • i first heard this song on the radio, A PRAIRE HOME COMPANION, most NPR stations carry it. lots of non popular music and entertainment to be found there.

  • Ray Bolger? Awesome.

  • euthanize your sense of fair play

  • LOL I love Nellie. :)

  • This song defines Nellie very well. She managed to put all of her beliefs in one song.
