There's a guy in a house on a peninsula near Gold Saucer, who tells you he gave it to Dio, the guy who runs Gold Saucer's Battle Arena. The Ancient City is beyond the Sleeping Forest, which can only be entered through Bone Village in the north. Dig up the Lunar Harp in Bone Village to make it through the forest (and get the bouncing red Kjata materia) and follow the path to the city.

Kind of a shame that ff used to have some great boss music that got you pumped to fight like this and final fantasy 6's one, nowdays they're shit, uninspired, hope 13vs (if that ever comes out) produces a great boss song.

Battle on the bridge in ff5 and ex deaths boss theme is another good one, along with decisive battle in ff6, dancing mad, one winged angel, (first sephiroth battle as well), jenova.
