This procedure, along with others etching procedures I've seen from your channel (company) seems like it would work really well on knives. Etching like this would seem to work for lettering (labeling), and the some of the other etching would be a good rust preventative on the high carbon steel. (At least that is what I see in this, because I'm into knives.)
I would love to get my hands on some of this chemical!
is it possible to make in home a pcb plating through hole? I mean after drill 1/32 in diameter on a printed circuit board I would like to make electrical conections between top side and bottom side of the pcb, it´s a copper electrodeposition process.
electricity flows from positive to negative, ELECTRONS flow from negative to positive. The anode (the copper) is being oxidized, therefore losing electrons so that to solid copper will turn into ions and be released into the solution. The negative electrons that the copper loses are transferred to the iPod so that it can react with the positive copper ions in the solution and the copper ions will end up binding to the iPod as solid copper. I'm not saying it looks good, but it works.
@goldplatinguk Brush plating is not good for E-Brite 30/30 case because EPI produce this plating system for big customers and it's not available in gel.
We can get the copper for you and you need to get a container to do this if you want to do it.. Call us at 262-786-9330 and we can help you. As for the nickel and chrome it would be better for to send it to a shop we can help you find one. They would have to get a rack made to plate it. Where are you at? It will help me find a shop.
I have an 80 gig Ipod Classic, I know how to take the whole back cover off. It is possible to plate the whole back cover using this method? And also, would it be possible to plate it with another kind metal, like nickel or chrome?
You two have eagle eyes. I can get you a sample of the copper plating solution if you want. Theodore Gray of Popular Science magazine came up with the idea. Go to the website popsci and look up his article and see his pod he plated. Doing this live was very challenging thank for your comments!
The chem he is used is called root kill. Its what I use. You can buy it at lowes or homedepot. Color is the same and everything.

Why would you scrape an ipod surface, it looks dull then. And has anyone ever heard of brush plating???

omfg look that surface quality, poor pod lol
add some CuCl2 into the solution get much better shining surface

lol look where they do it !! normal people never see the difference !! but you are right CuCl2 would be a good idea !

@kakadikui You real noob in elctroplating! Tell me the formula for alkaline copper plating contains any Cl. lol
