I see the French people in MP and the Holy Grail saying "we've already got one" was actually a recycled joke. Although the "can we see it?" reply was new at least.
@MikeSrdl Look, I know that this maybe isn't the easiest thing for you to understand, but I didn't ask for a source. I can make whatever absurd claim I want, and find a source for it. I was asking for an article published in a PEER REVIEWED magazine. If it's not peer-reviewed, it's just as useless as the bible. Also the article that you sent me contained absolutely no reference material. I wrote better articles when I was in elementary school.
I can see why you would just want to enjoy the comedy and I certainly do but I can defiantly understand why you do get such discussions here. Religion is a fascinating subject which makes some very bold claims about the world and I fail to see how you can not care about it. I am sure that monty python would have realized that jokes such as those in the life of Brian would lead to such discussions. I think it is a good thing as humor is one of the best forms of criticism.
Jesus Christ, Alla, Muhammed and Moses, EVERYONE SHUT-UP ABOUT RELIGION!!! If you want to argue do it on an ACTUAL religious or scientific video, or better yet say it in good ol' real life. I'm 14 and even I can tell you are just supposed to watch and enjoy this video >.>
@KeepItRawKeepItReal okay. and theres evidence supporting the fact that moses split the red sea by finding carriage wheels and other artifacts where he was supposed to do it. but you still don't believe he split the red sea, do you?
@MikeSrdl I'm overwhelmingly excited to receive some more information about this great find. Please tell me in which peer-reviewed article it is published in, so I can go and read about it myself.
Makes me think of current day conservative Republicans here in the US. Michelle Bachman for example and that nut job that endorses Perry by saying that Mormonism is a cult. Not to mention Romney's magic underpants.
@bstarzewski - yeah thats right - Christians and Mormons are the real nutjobs. Lets totally ignore the religion that lives in the 12th century, lobs your head off with a sword, blows children up on their way to school thinking it will get you 72 virgin in paradise etc. They're not the crazy ones? Its those damn kneeling Jesus lovers.
@RocktheStageNYC I do not discriminate when speaking of crackpot religions. But I have a particular problem with religion as a commercial enterprise which is what it has become here.
@bstarzewski - Not sure Religion has become a "commerical enterprise" here in the US but I do see your point. Its gone beyond just a belief to comfort people, its used as a tool to control and intimidate. Unfortunately we have some who take their religion far too literally and use it to blow kids up.
@RocktheStageNYC Where I live in Wisconsin there was a very successful fundamentalist "church". The husband and wife pastors built it up to quite and enterprise. Then suddenly they announced that they has SOLD it to a new preacher and were starting a new parish in none other than Branson Mo! They took all the assets and cash, bought huge SUVs and got outa town leaving unpaid debts and bills all over. What kind of CHURCH can be bought and sold like that? Thats what comes to mind when I see this.
@bstarzewski - well that's a bit different. That's basically scam artists using religion as a means to acquire wealth. They're not really religious or "Pastors". Snake oil salesmen. Nothing knew really. Those kind of people have been around since we settled the Old West.
@RocktheStageNYC Well you need to go down south and hang around some of these Baptist and other churches then. That is how they operate. They are run like cottage industries. Your handle implies you are from New York, right? Have you ever seen these TV preachers? Everything is send money for this and buy that. tithe your income! The problem is that people think they are donating to a church when in fact its going right into the pastor's pocket. Elmer Gantry is alive and well.
Look this is a funny video because it takes the piss out of the establishment, that's all. No need for a debate. People can believe what they like or know what they like? Life is a mystery to us all. I dont like to categorize people and I dont like fundamentalism or extremism on ant front or manifestation
I find it funny that this videos like this tend to lead to annoying Religion vs Atheitism debates. I'm a muslim and a friend of mine is a Christian and we're both big Monty Python fans so shut up and let's just enjoy some classic comedy.
@Elementa2006 "I find it funny that this videos like this tend to lead to annoying Religion vs Atheitism debates. I'm a muslim and a friend of mine is a Christian and we're both big Monty Python fans so shut up and let's just enjoy some classic comedy."
Yes, of course. Satire shouldn't provoke discussion and debate. That's just stupid :p
@Wonloongify No, I just know how to appreciate good comedy and the Pythons unanimously deny that they were ever out to destroy people's faith. On the DVD audio commentary of Life of Brian , they contend that the film is heretical because it lampoons the practices of modern organised religion, but that it does not blasphemously lampoon the God that Christians and Jews worship.
@Elementa2006 I agree that it's funny. But it's also heresy and as such you shouldn't be laughing at it. God sees all. See you in hell! MUAHAHAHHAHAHAAAA!!! xD
Right on. Science is too unbelievable to take seriously. Atheists think idiots like "scientists" and "teachers" have the ultimate authority. How can people see the Bible and honestly think it isn't real? It's the word of God! And if you can't trust that, what good are you to society?
What is it with you atheists, with our existence completely random? There is a reason for everything, and a reason for everything we do. I hope we can agree everything a human does has a reason. You have to understand everything else that happens does too.
@MikeSrdl How incredibly well meaning yet intellectually condescending. Your stance in life, your beliefs are not good enough- so join our religion, or burn in hell!
Never mind that this religion of yours is filled with the most abismal bronze age morals, used to oppress and control; used to persecute those who believe differently and to dominate politics, all through belief in the supernatural. It is superstition at its worst.
Even the most ludicrous sci-fi series plot is infinitely more believable than any religious fairy-tale of tablets falling from the sky when no-one is watching, people teleporting to the heavens (also when no-one is watching) and holy one-to-one calls with the villages self-proclaimed prophet/crazyperson
@acrovader thats much like saying that christianity proposes that the universe was created by Jeff the magic demonic aardvark who tryped on his cat at the point of creation. If your going to insult a point of modern human knowledge at least inform yourself what it proposes first.
@itztheJL Because peoples' beliefs are surprisingly and stunningly stupid. To those who like to think and base their opinions on facts actually insultingly so.
Are you a simpleton or something? Religion seems to breed those sorts.
No dummy. I'm saying that religion has historically caused more death and destruction than any other motivating factor. This cannot be debated. It is fact.
And for those of you who are about to drag out the same old tired arguments about the massacres committed under Stalin, etc, etc, I submit to you that Stalinism WAS a religion. Do some reading because horse. You need it
@CaperAway1 "I'm saying that religion has historically caused more death and destruction than any other motivating factor."
I would argue that politics has caused more deaths than anything because a huge number of the bad events that happened including the Crusades were all started by misuse of politics, and that's a fact.
@CaperAway1 "The sooner you religious whackos get over it and wake up to reality. the better off this entire planet will be."
What's ironic is that you remind me of the same religious wackos you're calling out because of posts like that. You may not have killed anybody but like religious nutjobs, you're pretty annoying.
@CaperAway1 cont... don't get me wrong though religions should have no place in this statistic and yet there they are in 2nd place when they should be 1st in the 'make life better for everyone' statistic. sad, very, very sad.
@CaperAway1 sorry but there is one motivating factor that trumps religion. and it is without a doubt the number one factor involved in every single act of murder. people. in every single case a person has been involved. fact, this can not be debated. hahaha stalin shmalin who needs him to prove people can be assholes, and generally, assholes will use anything to justify their crimes.
@CaperAway1 - actually, historically more death and destruction has been motivated by a thirst for power and control. Religion in some instances was just used to motivate people to action. One cannot say the death & destruction perpetrated by early civilizations was motivated by religion.
@CaperAway1 People like you make me think that atheists are tired old sacks of shit.
Seriously. Who the fuck cares if someone believes something? Technically, your belief that there is no God is a belief in itself. No way you can really prove it.
Zero isn't endless, on the contrary, it's a point value, in algebra the universal mean between the largest positive and largest negative value imaginable.
A question for atheists. In a world where there's no proof of God's existence or of life after death; how do you explain to your children why you brought them into the world and why they should die?
@alternativebassist No. Ridiculing irrational beliefs and pointing out their flaws is what comedy does and has made Monty Python as awesome as they are. Lighten up.
@kroschfoenigin but that's not reeeeally what they're trying to do...rather what they're actually doing is creating a rather humorous game show parody, which is fine. But for people for then to justify that as to put down all beliefs as "irrational" is not what the pythons would have wanted :'(
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Seems all Monty Pythons humour was based on hating God and laughing at religion because laughing at religion is funny so all their 'jokes' must be funny. Religion is obeying God so thus Monthy Python is laughing at God. They will burn on judgement.
@Gavinwr75 1- Prove there's a God. 2- Prove that if there is a God is your God 3-Prove there's a "judgement" 4- Prove there's a hell 5-Prove that Hell is a place where you burn... good luck... besides you don't know much about this comedians, do you? they don't make fun of religion often so your claim that all Monty Pythons humour was based on hating God and laughing at religion couldn't be more wrong...
@Gavinwr75 I actually feel sorry for you for beleiving this. I now u have wasted ur life and it actually makes me sad knowing so much of the world shares these views and the suffering of people because of it.
No, you misunderstand. It's not about hating God. It would be absurd to base their skits on hating a fictional character now wouldn't it? It's in fact about making fun of the morons who believe this religious nonsense, such as yourself.
"They will burn on judgement."
Do you actually believe that they deserve eternal torture for their comedy? You have a disgusting and psychopathic morality if you hold that view.
@sdrawkcabgnipytmi for you info, Hell is a pagan concept not a Christian belief, and judgement occurs only once on the day of the Lord when all you atheists wake up to the fact that God did exist all the time and you were living your lives in sin thinking you got away with it. Then you get destroyed end of. Thats punishment with eternal consequences not eternal punishing. The pythons lied to you and you swallowed it hook line and sinker.
@Gavinwr75 Actually, the concept of Hell as we know it came from Dante's Divine Comedy Trilogy. The one that commented on Hell and all of it's tortures in Inferno were what really got the ball rolling. Yes, Pagan religions had afterlifes, but it was not very much heavily thought upon. It was not until Inferno that Hell became something the Church took upon as a way to convert. Personally, as a Pagan who denounces any afterlife and believes in reincarnation, I feel you need to read a little more.
You only say that because that is what you were taught as a child. You don't really KNOW of what you claim, as there is no evidence that gods exist, much less you version of god. To say otherwise is to lie.
Ah the Python transvestites on parade, I remember that bit of lame comedy from when I was a kid. I liked the Holy Grail, but the Flying Circus was for nebbishes who sought to impress.
As a child I would love to watch Dave Allen, and these type of sketches about religion. I think it has helped us to understand how stupid it all really is, and maybe why UK has progressed further than the USA in leaving behind ancient myth and superstition?

@CaperAway1 - actually, historically more death and destruction has been motivated by a thirst for power and control. Religion in some instances was just used to motivate people to action. One cannot say the death & destruction perpetrated by early civilizations was motivated by religion.

You religious idiots. You're all brainwashed...
There is no god. Religion is a farce. It's snakeoil.
Religion causes nothing but death and destruction.
The sooner you religious whackos get over it and wake up to reality. the better off this entire planet will be.

@CaperAway1 just like how video games are responsible for all the wrongs of society

@CaperAway1 People like you make me think that atheists are tired old sacks of shit.
Seriously. Who the fuck cares if someone believes something? Technically, your belief that there is no God is a belief in itself. No way you can really prove it.
Lordkurova 4 months ago
@Lordkurova
If disbelief is a belief, than zero is the same as infinity.
SSTTEEAALLTTHH 4 months ago
@SSTTEEAALLTTHH Sure, why not. They're both endless.
Lordkurova 4 months ago
@Lordkurova
Zero isn't endless, on the contrary, it's a point value, in algebra the universal mean between the largest positive and largest negative value imaginable.

A question for atheists. In a world where there's no proof of God's existence or of life after death; how do you explain to your children why you brought them into the world and why they should die?
QuestionForAtheists 9 months ago
taking something as awesome as Monty python and trying to attack other people's beliefs. You should hang you head in shame
alternativebassist 9 months ago
@alternativebassist No. Ridiculing irrational beliefs and pointing out their flaws is what comedy does and has made Monty Python as awesome as they are. Lighten up.
kroschfoenigin 9 months ago
@kroschfoenigin but that's not reeeeally what they're trying to do...rather what they're actually doing is creating a rather humorous game show parody, which is fine. But for people for then to justify that as to put down all beliefs as "irrational" is not what the pythons would have wanted :'(
alternativebassist 9 months ago
Google "Benny Hill considered funnier than Monty Python"!

Seems all Monty Pythons humour was based on hating God and laughing at religion because laughing at religion is funny so all their 'jokes' must be funny. Religion is obeying God so thus Monthy Python is laughing at God. They will burn on judgement.
Gavinwr75 9 months ago

@Gavinwr75 Haha, guess what? "God" doesn't exist. Prove to me that "God" exist.
pehosful 9 months ago
@Gavinwr75
You have a disgusting and psychopathic morality if you hold that view.
sdrawkcabgnipytmi 9 months ago
@sdrawkcabgnipytmi for you info, Hell is a pagan concept not a Christian belief, and judgement occurs only once on the day of the Lord when all you atheists wake up to the fact that God did exist all the time and you were living your lives in sin thinking you got away with it. Then you get destroyed end of. Thats punishment with eternal consequences not eternal punishing. The pythons lied to you and you swallowed it hook line and sinker.
Gavinwr75 8 months ago
@Gavinwr75
Hell is a Christian belief. It's talked about in the Bible and many if not most Christians do in fact believe in it.
Could you tell my just what evidence there is for god? I honestly don't see any.
sdrawkcabgnipytmi 8 months ago
@Gavinwr75 Do you have any more information than anyone else does about the existence of god? No, so stop arrogantly claiming to.
ninjajesus81 8 months ago
@Gavinwr75 Actually, the concept of Hell as we know it came from Dante's Divine Comedy Trilogy. The one that commented on Hell and all of it's tortures in Inferno were what really got the ball rolling. Yes, Pagan religions had afterlifes, but it was not very much heavily thought upon. It was not until Inferno that Hell became something the Church took upon as a way to convert. Personally, as a Pagan who denounces any afterlife and believes in reincarnation, I feel you need to read a little more.

@Gavinwr75 "... They will burn on judgement."
What if God doesn't exist? What then?

THANK YOU Monty Python.
