On flat land (such as that of Myrtle Beach) with nothing for it to reverberate off of, it sounds exactly like it does on the video, only about 25,000 times louder.

@dalittleman001 I've driven through some pretty bad thunderstorms and you CANNOT hear the lightning strike coming. Lightning= flowing electrons. Electrons don't make sounds. The sound you hear is the air litterally exploding--thunder. You see the lightning bolt first then your hear the thunder. You can tell when lightning strikes far away because there will be static on the radio corresponding with each strike...ya know, since lightning travels through the same air that radio waves use.

The theory of electrical circuits is similar to this. Imagine two parallel circuits attached to a power supply.
