Cover versions call for improvisation. Trust me, because I do it a lot when I sing. This key makes it sound more sweet, like a love song. I like his version very much, no matter how many times he screwed up. He's good at covering up his mistakes.

When you're covering a song the notes are open for interpretation lol. If you wanted to hear the exact same version you may aswell listen to the original. I think he interprets it nice :)

I agree untill some point. You can give your own vision of the song. But to say that you can sing a D instead of a C or Minor instead of Major, well, that is pushing your freedom too far. But anyway, Mika is always good.

if you kept it in the same key but it was too low or high for you to sing then you would have to go up or down a full octave which would be much more drastic change to the song than just changing a key, so I'm not too sure how it's pushing anything. Though I will agree with you on something, Mika is indeed always good!!

No. Mika rewrote Sweet dreams and he was successful on that job. Everybody's talking by Mika turned into another song. Mika's song is good but only Olver gave the right reading for Everybody's talking..

Yeah CatOnAHorse, it's interpretation, it really doesn't matter about the notes as long as they fit in with the chord he's playing at the time. I sing my songs differently live to what I do in the studio, and it still works.
