  • I first bought "Tones" in 1998 and this is the first version I ever saw of EJ performing it, 14 years later. LOVED IT!! And BTW, who is the drummer? I always thought Tommy Taylor was his best drummer, but I may need to rethink that.

  • I saw ERIC JOHNSON when I was a kid! My Mom took me!!!! It was when TONES first came out! He is too awe-inspiring for description, other-worldly....THANK YOU SO MUCH

  • Oh My God, this musician is one of the best and gifted artist ever

  • The rhythm tone sounds a lot like Andy Summers, or could it be the other way around? Eric is phenomenal. Andy is iconic. Discuss...

  • .....and he can sing too!

    Nice one EJ.

  • who are the other musicians besides e.j. on this concert?

  • one person fell into the bristol shore and was cast away...

  • I think you can tell he was more confident in his lead playing than his chord work, there are some immense runs in that solo!

How many notes did he play between 3:03 and 3:10???

  • @EddieVanAidan EJ....... like Yngwie Malmsteen!! hahahahahahahaha

  • cool tune!

  • Austin City Limits. I have the whole thing on video. I've been following Eric ever since. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

  • thank you so much for uploading

  • Did he get a free tank of gas with that haircut?

  • yayyy.. thanks for posting

  • One of my heroes !!!! Thank you for posting this !!!

    God bless you, Eric !!!

  • I had given up playing the guitar after I injured my hand. While watching this program, I pulled my guitar out of retirement, I was so inspired.

  • thanks for uploading. my favorite from Tones.

  • the bass player is bad ass in this song

  • @lavh93 Rob Alexander, and yes he hits some killer bass tones in this EJ tune.

  • Very unusual and insanely great guitarist! Tones actually don't get any better than 'Tones'.

  • I'm pretty sure I saw this when I was 1. I've been trying to search for what I remember but this this only ACL performance I've seen that reminds of that day my dad said "if you ever want to learn to play guitar, learn to play like this guy"

  • Thank you for this upload it was gone for a while.

  • This IS THE tune and program that got me hooked on EJ way back in '84

  • @n2motocross yeah...me too, and his 1988 ACL performance as well. What a guitar-waizard!!

  • This track, Zap and Victory are my favourites from Tones

  • I wish they officially release this show, better than the 89 ACL!

  • This song along with Victory are two of my faves. Thank you for posting it.

  • He must of changed the start lyrics, on the tones album he starts "theres a place I dream of far away" he swapped them around at the start of this video. Great Performance

  • EJ sounds a lot like Bryan Adams in this one. A few pitch hiccups, but one of his better vocal performances.

  • THANKS! I have been wanting to see this performance for A LONG TIME! I caught the original broad cast on ACL back in 1984.
