I loved the way Thad wrote for the sax section, substituting two sopranos for the altos ~

Mel is my favorite drummer / musician of them all.
I could watch him all day long.
What a concept.
It's a shame that he was not more widely known. He was a real force in Jazz, and his bands were second to none.

Great band! Kenny is very fluid as he slips & slides around the harmony. Joe is also most intense. Great sounds.

There may never have been a better sax section ever put together. The modern day four brothers!!!! Dick Oatts lead alto, Ted Nash - 2nd alto, Joe Lovano - 1st tenor, Ralph lalama - 2nd tenor, and Gary Smulyan - bari sax. WOW!!! Kenny Werner is a bad mother fucker too and Dennis Irwin is the secret weapon!!!

THX Man ... Thats a section and don't forget EARL Gardner on Lead trumpet, who brought the unique style in this band ( phrasing wise together with Dick Oatts and of course MEL)
