I completely agree with you guys. I think the people who believe race is not an issue anymore, and that it would be best dealt with by sweeping the issue "under the rug" are those that simply haven't been the target of racism. If these people stand in the receiving end of racism enough times, they too will agree that ignoring the issue is NOT an option. Sadly, racism is still ALIVE and WELL.
People shouldn't make perceptions based purely on outward color, nor snap judgements because of outward appearance. In Africa, a "pure" black man doesn't have blue eyes. In America we have them. So people in general will never "fit the mold" physically.
As a side note - I think there are hardly any "pure" races, bloodline-wise, in America & many other countries. Most everyone is some sort of mixture, even many who claim they aren't. Most of us are hybrids.

I use to think white people didn't talk about race until I went to college. In certain classes. That's all they talk about. Being a Black man, I feel the conversations are offensive, but I am usualy the only black male in the class. If you want to see whites talk about race issues, go to college.

I am not from Europe, but from what I have heard from native and non-native Europeans is that is an issue. In Germany people of Turkish and Roma descent suffer discrimination. In France, North African immigrants are discriminated. In the UK those from Commonwealth countries are discriminated.

I can't help thinking that it's a circular issue: It starts with class warfare, and since blacks were in the lower-class to begin with, they've been stereotyped as coming exclusively from that class. Even so, I still think the root of the issue has more to do with how much money one makes than the color of someone's skin. Money is why urban schools are under-funded, money is why whites are more successful than blacks. I don't think its about skin color so much as money.

Racism may be a problem in the U.S. (and especially on Youtube*), but if you preoccupy yourself with it you're only giving into racist's intentions. Indeed, if one looks at statistics for foreign born immigrants one will find that they are more successful academically and financially than the general American population. How many "white" people you know that have had a "black" person in their home and how many "black" people do you know that have had a "white" person in their home? I know plenty of both who have had neither. These guys are how it should be, but is not in many places in the USA.
I am sorry you live in such a closed community. My daughter is tri racial and when I went to family events I wasn't the only white one there. I live in a small rural area, but you still don't ever see a black couple. They are always interacial, and there are a lot of beautiful children around.

The problem with your last episode was not with the topic, but with the way you handled it. I don't expect you to sweep anything under the rug. But i do expect from you
1. not to make unsubstantiated generalizations, particularly stereotypical ones, and
2. not to present your personal opinions as though they are representative of entire sections of society, particularly when these sections are determined by race rather than by political outlook.
I think that they know that their views are not representative of the whole society. I think that the point is to talk about racial issues between a black person and a white person. Most races usually stay within a homogenous culture and the point is to escape the claustrophobia and generalization that this causes.

look i have been listening to radio and tv, and ive heard a lot of people who refuse to admit that racism is going away in america! one man who called up even went as far as to say it was, hidden racism where we have it but dont show it, becouse it has become a social and political landmind. thats not true, look at the white culture, we had slaves, but through some natural inclination whites banned together to stop slavery at a time when it was widely accepted, its going away,face it.

I use to think white people didn't talk about race until I went to college. In certain classes. That's all they talk about. Being a Black man, I feel the conversations are offensive, but I am usualy the only black male in the class. If you want to see whites talk about race issues, go to college.

I am not from Europe, but from what I have heard from native and non-native Europeans is that is an issue. In Germany people of Turkish and Roma descent suffer discrimination. In France, North African immigrants are discriminated. In the UK those from Commonwealth countries are discriminated.

I can't help thinking that it's a circular issue: It starts with class warfare, and since blacks were in the lower-class to begin with, they've been stereotyped as coming exclusively from that class. Even so, I still think the root of the issue has more to do with how much money one makes than the color of someone's skin. Money is why urban schools are under-funded, money is why whites are more successful than blacks. I don't think its about skin color so much as money.

Racism may be a problem in the U.S. (and especially on Youtube*), but if you preoccupy yourself with it you're only giving into racist's intentions. Indeed, if one looks at statistics for foreign born immigrants one will find that they are more successful academically and financially than the general American population. I think this is because they are far less preoccupied with the white man's snidely attitude... They are too busy exceeding racists.

Considering African, South American, Asian and many Caribbean immigrants do better academically and financially than the general American population, where has the racism gone?? Indeed, the only immigrants that do worse than the general American population are those from Central America, Haiti the Dominican Republic, Cuba and international refugees.

The problem here is post secondary education. If people are interested in eradicating the ever present ogre, "racism" it's important you also be well educated, skilled and resilient. This way whether racism exists or not you are still far better off than the average drunken redneck...

If anyone thinks race is not an issue today, all they need to do is do google search "White Supremists" or "Black Nationalists" or "Brown Berets" or "La Raza" and spend some time reading what is said by real people in the forums.

How many "white" people you know that have had a "black" person in their home and how many "black" people do you know that have had a "white" person in their home? I know plenty of both who have had neither. These guys are how it should be, but is not in many places in the USA.

I am sorry you live in such a closed community. My daughter is tri racial and when I went to family events I wasn't the only white one there. I live in a small rural area, but you still don't ever see a black couple. They are always interacial, and there are a lot of beautiful children around.

The problem with your last episode was not with the topic, but with the way you handled it. I don't expect you to sweep anything under the rug. But i do expect from you
1. not to make unsubstantiated generalizations, particularly stereotypical ones, and
2. not to present your personal opinions as though they are representative of entire sections of society, particularly when these sections are determined by race rather than by political outlook.

I think that they know that their views are not representative of the whole society. I think that the point is to talk about racial issues between a black person and a white person. Most races usually stay within a homogenous culture and the point is to escape the claustrophobia and generalization that this causes.
PS. They are just kidding around. Give them some leaway.

Well said! I think the problem is that James & David are a little too subtle for some people. it's like my sense of humor- those that don't know me often take things I say in jest way too seriously! Doing videos on today's political matters is going to offend someone, no matter what you do, with some people saying you're going to far, while others will say it's not far enough! It's a no win situation!

I disagree. The problem is not always with the audience. The speaker must have a full command of rhetoric and find the right tone. The first video was awkward, but this second episode is very good.
