It's so enjoyable to watch Lindsay playing as she hit the ball so clean and accurate. She totally taught Ivanovic a lesson how to play beautiful tennis.
Lindsay Davenport is such a ball striker! She hit the ball so hard and fast that her opponent usually just standing there and watch. She got a very powerful game and her shots usually got an accurate placement, so Lindsay is always an experienced no.1.
I think Lindsay's main disavantages are her movement and mentality. She moves so slow on court, so she isn't very good at defences. She usually loses to both williamses and Henin because of that. Lastly, mentally she's weak. That's why she lost so many close match in grand slams in the past to the likes of Venus, Maria, Kuznetsova and Serena.

Sacramones performance was terrible during the olympics and was the reason why Team USA lost. With that kind of performance and still made it to the national team, I wonder how many coaches did she have to sleep with in order to get the spot. Ivanovic and Jankovic are just mediocre...they would have never been able to compete with capriati, seles, clijsters, the williams sisters at the their prime, or any of the REAL Top 10 players who are now gone. Davenport was 32 yrs old, playing nowhere near as well as she was even 3 yrs ago, and she still kicked ivanovic's ass.

graf didn't have a backhand? that's a silly thing to say-she didn't hit many winners off that wing-but it's probably one of the most efective backhands in the history of women's tennis in that it fitted in with her game allowing her to hit more fh winners-and it gave players so much trouble!
But it may have been effective back then but nowadays you cat rely on just the forehand to hit winners and just defend of the back hand... venus and Serena would just pumble the balls to her backhand side... She may have looked like a big hitter when she was playing but if you pin her up against the big hitters of today she wouldnt appear as strong...

I'm not too fond of her either when I look at her playing style there's nothing that I see that is special that stands out for me. I think she is also more of a baseline player especially when you look at this match you don't see her coming to the net whereas Lindsey mixes it up a little and I think that's what makes the difference. Lets keep in mind that Lindsey was out for awhile with that injury and she clearly had the best of Ivanovic even while she is No 1!
i think that hantuchova has a much more similar game to lindsay than ana does. unlike ana, daniela has almost identical mechanics on the groundies as lindsay: big, loose, loopy backswings, relies on timing, great off both sides, and makes it look effortless with very clean groundstrokes. also, she plays great at the net and is limited by movement, much like lindsay. ana has much shorter swings than lindsay and a stiffer, less accurate backhand. ana also moves differently. does anyone else agree?
yeah, i mean sometimes their strokes look almost exactly the same. if you look at daniela when she played ivanovic in the aussie open semis, she looked like davenport at her best, hitting the lines with very smooth strokes. you're right, though, daniela doesn't have as much power off the ground or on the serve.
yeah, it was really heartbreaking how she lost that 2005 Wimbledon final to Venus, i wish she had won it. She's had so many chances in the Slams, Lindsay, but she comes up against great opponnents. It would have been nice if she had beaten Dementieva in the quarters of the 2005 US Open, but she lost 76 in the third after having match point.

I think Ivanovic and Davenport have very similar style. Both have beautiful,fluid swings hitting the ball pefectly(so that they need not waste much energy) und much power but they both are not having the best footwork. Plus they are both great Servers.
Davenport ist the most precise female player ever, while Anna clearly has the edge in Footwork(and looks:)).
Lindsay has power and the whitts around the cours... the reason why Lindsay won this match was because she over powered and outwhitted Ana... Anas backhand has improved alot lately but it will never be like Lindsay who can hit perfect shots of both wings... Shame Lindsays body is failing her atm... lindsay was my favorite player before she retired and now ana is... however, their style of playing is REALLY similar minus the fact that ana's movement is more graceful and effortless.

The one thing that Davenport has that's special is that she almost always hits the sweet spot on the center of raquet. I love the "ping" sound. It almost sounds like a pinball machine.

Yes I do think Elena has better groundies than Ana. I've heard commentators say it all the time that sometimes Ana loses the timing of her shots, especially because she pulls away from her forehand, yet somehow hits it aggressively. Weird. Plus, Elena has the experience.

this two girls have a very similar game, with the only diference that lindsay is been doing this longer than ana.
they both have strong forehand, (that makes this game so interesting to watch) striking the ball down to the baseline, they both open up the court searching diferent angles, great groundstrokes, power first serve and finally they both have good timing.
I think this is about as well as I've ever seen a double-handed backhand struck. Davenport has, undeniably, the best timing on her groundstrokes of them all. The ones at 7.22 and 00.22 - stunning.
these two play the most beautiful tennis on the tour. ana is basically the (underdeveloped) exact copy of lindsay. this match shows lindsay still has it and is still one of the best in the world. but when lindsay does retire, i am glad we have ana to watch.
Ivanovic is good, but better than Lindsey I dont know if she can be. They have similiar style, but Lindsey hits the ball sooo much cleaner, also Lindsey can open up the court better (angles). No one hits the ball like Lindsey! As for Jankovic, she is equally as talented as Ivanovic. Actually Jankovic has more room for improvement. She can beef up her serve, and add some weight (so she can have more behind her groundstrokes). Jankovic is a natural athlete.
Lindsay has things that Sharapova probably won't achieve in her career...ending the season number 1 four different times and 55 career singles titles. Yes Sharapova may have the head to head advantage, but hands down Lindsay is such a better player. Lindsay has a better personality too...
At the moment i think lindsay hs the better game butmarias is still evolving! but davenport does have the cleaner and more poweful groundies, the bigger serve and the hands at the net!

I never said sharapova wasn't good she is really skilled i'm saying that ivanovic is getting her ass kicked by all these tennis players, and is being considered the top. Sharapova is my favorite pro tennis player.

I don't understand why people think Lindsay moves so horribly. Obviously she's not the fastest, but actually, she probably has some of if not the BEST foot work on the tour, using all those small transition steps. The way she strikes the ball and that amazing footwork normally makes up for her lack of sheer speed.

so much reason why, sometimes players are injured, not fit. but personally i believe its because the game changed soo much that the power hitters dont need to move that well because they believe that they can hit winners

Well with the exclusion of the williams sisters and maybe Justine Henin its rare to see a tennis player with everything in their game... These two women have great serves and groundstrokes but Graf didnt even have a backhand and did you see the backhands hit in that match?

graf didn't have a backhand? that's a silly thing to say-she didn't hit many winners off that wing-but it's probably one of the most efective backhands in the history of women's tennis in that it fitted in with her game allowing her to hit more fh winners-and it gave players so much trouble!

But it may have been effective back then but nowadays you cat rely on just the forehand to hit winners and just defend of the back hand... venus and Serena would just pumble the balls to her backhand side... She may have looked like a big hitter when she was playing but if you pin her up against the big hitters of today she wouldnt appear as strong...

Also, I've always thought Ana put a bit more spin on her shots than Lindsay. Don't get me wrong, Ana hits very flat, but not as flat as Lindsay.

I'm not too fond of her either when I look at her playing style there's nothing that I see that is special that stands out for me. I think she is also more of a baseline player especially when you look at this match you don't see her coming to the net whereas Lindsey mixes it up a little and I think that's what makes the difference. Lets keep in mind that Lindsey was out for awhile with that injury and she clearly had the best of Ivanovic even while she is No 1!

i think that hantuchova has a much more similar game to lindsay than ana does. unlike ana, daniela has almost identical mechanics on the groundies as lindsay: big, loose, loopy backswings, relies on timing, great off both sides, and makes it look effortless with very clean groundstrokes. also, she plays great at the net and is limited by movement, much like lindsay. ana has much shorter swings than lindsay and a stiffer, less accurate backhand. ana also moves differently. does anyone else agree?

yeah, i mean sometimes their strokes look almost exactly the same. if you look at daniela when she played ivanovic in the aussie open semis, she looked like davenport at her best, hitting the lines with very smooth strokes. you're right, though, daniela doesn't have as much power off the ground or on the serve.

yeah, it was really heartbreaking how she lost that 2005 Wimbledon final to Venus, i wish she had won it. She's had so many chances in the Slams, Lindsay, but she comes up against great opponnents. It would have been nice if she had beaten Dementieva in the quarters of the 2005 US Open, but she lost 76 in the third after having match point.

yes in your opinion. there is a certain matter of steffi graf, martina navratilova and maybe chris evert. although lindsay is 1 of my favourite players i personally wouldnt say she is the best player ever.

I think Ivanovic and Davenport have very similar style. Both have beautiful,fluid swings hitting the ball pefectly(so that they need not waste much energy) und much power but they both are not having the best footwork. Plus they are both great Servers.
Davenport ist the most precise female player ever, while Anna clearly has the edge in Footwork(and looks:)).

Lindsay has power and the whitts around the cours... the reason why Lindsay won this match was because she over powered and outwhitted Ana... Anas backhand has improved alot lately but it will never be like Lindsay who can hit perfect shots of both wings... Shame Lindsays body is failing her atm... I agree about Jelena though but Lindsay is just a legend in the WTA...

lindsay was my favorite player before she retired and now ana is... however, their style of playing is REALLY similar minus the fact that ana's movement is more graceful and effortless.
it was great seeing lindsay's flash of her old brilliance against hte upcoming number 1.

The one thing that Davenport has that's special is that she almost always hits the sweet spot on the center of raquet. I love the "ping" sound. It almost sounds like a pinball machine.

Yes I do think Elena has better groundies than Ana. I've heard commentators say it all the time that sometimes Ana loses the timing of her shots, especially because she pulls away from her forehand, yet somehow hits it aggressively. Weird. Plus, Elena has the experience.

this two girls have a very similar game, with the only diference that lindsay is been doing this longer than ana.
they both have strong forehand, (that makes this game so interesting to watch) striking the ball down to the baseline, they both open up the court searching diferent angles, great groundstrokes, power first serve and finally they both have good timing.

I think this is about as well as I've ever seen a double-handed backhand struck. Davenport has, undeniably, the best timing on her groundstrokes of them all. The ones at 7.22 and 00.22 - stunning.

these two play the most beautiful tennis on the tour. ana is basically the (underdeveloped) exact copy of lindsay. this match shows lindsay still has it and is still one of the best in the world. but when lindsay does retire, i am glad we have ana to watch.

Ivanovic is good, but better than Lindsey I dont know if she can be. They have similiar style, but Lindsey hits the ball sooo much cleaner, also Lindsey can open up the court better (angles). No one hits the ball like Lindsey! As for Jankovic, she is equally as talented as Ivanovic. Actually Jankovic has more room for improvement. She can beef up her serve, and add some weight (so she can have more behind her groundstrokes). Jankovic is a natural athlete.

Lindsay has things that Sharapova probably won't achieve in her career...ending the season number 1 four different times and 55 career singles titles. Yes Sharapova may have the head to head advantage, but hands down Lindsay is such a better player. Lindsay has a better personality too...
