Living in the Midwest you see a lot of Tea Party people, and due to job scarcity I worked for Republicans and Libertarians during campaigns and elected terms for something like 10 or 11 years. The Tea Party isn't, by definition, a racist organization. But to say there isn't enough rabid racism in the Tea Party to let Rachel's misunderstanding slide is to be ignorant of the real facts.

i believe that workers should be safe from inhaling toxic air, etc, while working. that is, if they are not aware of it. there are many jobs that are dangerous. those workplaces should provide basic procedures to help the worker, which they do. its up to the worker, if he wants that job or not, taking into account the risks associated with it

Living in the Midwest you see a lot of Tea Party people, and due to job scarcity I worked for Republicans and Libertarians during campaigns and elected terms for something like 10 or 11 years. The Tea Party isn't, by definition, a racist organization. But to say there isn't enough rabid racism in the Tea Party to let Rachel's misunderstanding slide is to be ignorant of the real facts.

Historically, every group of people which has been branded by an offensive term eventually embraced that term as a term of endearment. Two of the best known examples of this are the N-word and the word "muckrakers." Ms. Harris and anyone calling Tea Party "racist" would do well to remember that. They are diluting the meaning of the word and they are risking removing the cultural effect of removing a negative canotation from it.

"Oh, which is it?" as it it couldn't be the case simultaneously that a lot of the rank-and-file Teabaggers are racist *and* that they get all their talking points from a top-down structure that the Koch Brothers fund... which is, in fact, true. Penn's interest in scoring gotcha points came at the expense of a substantial discussion. As if Penn's reflexive, extremist "distrust the government always / watch yer parking meters" line was in any way useful.
