I got a Shirley Ceasar gospel joint on a comp I did....she's really an embodiment of how much soul got from gospel...and then vice versa, as gospel in the 70's started getting more "strut" than the regular organ and drums...Shirley was amazing. She has a song called "Mama" or something like that...can't remember i have the 45 but it's busted to shit...where she's just telling a story over some soulful gospel music...it's like hip hop soul gospel. she's a true "gospel screamer.."

You need the Rance Allen Group - Brothers, and Say My Friend produced by the Mizell Brothers, Sons of Truth-Message From The Ghetto, and The Art Reynolds Singers-Soul Gospel Sounds Of....There's a real fat drum break opening Selfishly off the ARS, Howard Lemon Singers, Rodena Preston on Bee Gee..it's a gang of soul gospel records that are under the radar.
