That was cute! Another tired ol bum off the streets fumbling around some half-assed copied licks playing along to karaoke music! Yea, good response..... LOL.
Not a one of you punks have the balls or integrity to post a video response. And I guarantee if you did, it would be done in the comfort of your very own single wide, and not in front a panel of Judges and a few hundred Spectators. Step up, lets see how much better you are bitches.
judges did a great job in st. louis. i took 2nd. the way older guy that took first was awesome. i wouldnt have felt right if i took first just for being a younger guy with a cool hat. the other guys competing just didnt land anything they tried to do. good job joey
The flaw with the KOTB is the judges in the prelim-rounds, they are selected by the store employee who coordinates the contest for their respective store. The judges selected are not educated enough in the Blues to be judging Blues players. Being a guitar collector does not make a good judge - Tacoma. I don't believe the contest is riigged, It just needs quility judges. not guitar collectors and personal friends of the contest coordinator. I love women, that does'nt make me a good judge of them.
This is what blues text book would sound like if it were to enter the competition. He nails every change perfectly and targets notes exceptionally. Unfortunately he never leaves the safety of the rhythm and changes, I don't hear any interesting single note solo lines heaven forbid you might lose your place in the progression if you ventured down that road. I say nothing ventured nothing gained
i just got turned on to the king of the blues and watched alot of videos and seen alot of comments on the contest beng rigged i dont see it but i understand why there is alot of debate me being a blues player and blues lover i can see alot of different syles and personalities. Blues is a very raw and emotional syle of music one note can say more than 1000 notes and you have to feel it, live it, and believe it. there alot of great players in the contest that blew me away but its a competition
I agree.. waste of time contest.. i saw a local tryout once and they gave the winning prize to a guy who slapped his guitar like a bass and never played one note.
@steverb100 and there's a good reason for that! But no matter how rigged the competition is, I wouldn't have got to see this guy play if it wasn't for it... C'es la vie!
@gunthervinson I completely agree. I'm not even sour about losing and honestly, I'll probably do it again just for the free shirt and discount card, but it is bullshit. This was the first time I've ever seen such a farce occur. The guy that went through on the night I performed was seriously awful and one of the worst of the night. The whole crowd said "what?!?!" when they announced his name and at the end of his performance he even said it was bad! Complete crap, not even a fair contest.
i doubt this guy will even come close to winning because guitar center has a flawed judgeing system that allows less experienced players to advance while leaveing good players like this to wonder what the hell just happened ive been in this competition 3 times and all three times ive seen good players lose to less experienced ( bad ) players wich leaves me to question why musicality isnt one of the criteria on wich you are judged
@MegaGuitarboss yeah man i totally agree. they have different judges for every preliminary and final store competition. at least that's how they do it in memphis.
The judges most definitely need to be monitored. I've seen the same thing where the contestants were completely not synchronized with the backing track, there was no real melody to their playing, and their technique was that of a beginner guitarist, but yet were allowed to advance to the next round. And like you said, the ones that were able to really master those three categories were dismissed. It's part "who you know" and some other networking power.
I feel the same way. There are a series of videos from the brooklyn store uploaded by bigwilliewillhom that feature most of the people who performed at the 2010 contest. The finalists were Danny And Faddy from that series. However they allowed Ronald to vs faddy even though he had no technique or feeling to his playing. Just shredding a vintage 63' 335... very upsetting. If you don't mind, I would appreciate it if you guys would check out my entry and give me critique. It's Under Favs thx
@MegaGuitarboss Same here. I lost to a kid who's guitar wasn't even in tune. It's geared to the young and pretty. An old dog like me is just that...an old dog. I just checked out the video of the actual winner of the National competition....a guy named Randy Scott...and a more lackluster performer I have yet to hear.

@MegaGuitarboss If that's true in your particular store...that's a shame! I've been judging for 4 years now and I think we have it down...know your blues and do your job. You might want to say something to the store mangaer if you truly feel as if your store if flawed. Is the outcome always from the same store? Best of luck next year!

Basically they pick a guy who is functional at guitar and from there they judge you based on how you look and how you act during your performance.
They don't want a good guitarist, they want a good celebrity.
