  • @prospect42191 oh shit..yea that's what I meant, and this album isn't even as good as Capital Punishment imo and Reasonable Doubt is considered Jay's best...i think Pun got robbed of that Grammy.

  • Mediocre rap saved by its producers and the musical tidbit of Mary J.

A Dictionary Hunter without his Gain! An entrapped prison dude trying to impress us with his dictionary words and metaphor

    "we do dirt like worms

    produce g's like sperm

    'til legs spread like germs"

Jay gets tongued tied and a lover of words sometimes without the context and absurd in both the good and useless way

  • @mebalow ME 2

  • @mebalow I was born in 1990)

  • todays pop "rap" electronic music shouldnt be compared to old school hip hop and rap. its like saying jazz is better than rock. if you think about it generations are more inclined to listen to what they did when they were growing up but even thats an opinion and there are exceptions. people who know this dont bother to join your conversations because these comments mean nothing to anybody with a brain

  • Best music = 93'-2001! Oh yeah....."96',97',98',99',2000, 2001 and beyond. 02',03',04',05,06 and 7, 08' 09". Ya'll should already know.

  • this is the one that set it off, beautiful music, dont forget rap world.

  • Man I luv it wen hip hop collaborate wit R&B, da chemistry wit jay-z & Mary j iz perfect, u got a rapper spitting real shit but at the same time u got a singer singin her ass off wit soul music, fuckin genius

  • Yeah, this shit back when rap had meaning that's not strictly bitches and money and champagne. I loved all that old stuff, but I admit, without today's shit, I never would've opened my ears and listened to rock and country. Yeah I listen to Rap, Rock, and Country! Each genre has a time when I prefer it the most. When I'm out there trying to relax with my buddies, drink beer, I listen to country. Chillin' with the cats from where I used to live, showing off, rap. Working out, rock comes hard.

  • this very good best flow

  • I like this Jay, now he don't really do it for me, i'm not taking anything from him. he gets my props, but that's where it stops...haha i know, i know but i had to do it.

  • please check my shit on my page

  • i was born in 92 and i know about hip hop from the mid 70's to 2010 i know about this album right here and i know about illmatic. but some kids of my generation dont know that deep history of hip hop.

  • @Matthiasnewsome just like you dont know a lot about hip hop

  • i can be honest now.

  • Can someone email me the whole entire album?????

  • MY Top Five

    1) Ready To Die

    2) Stillmatic

    3) Reasonable Doubt

    4) illmatic

    5) Shook Ones (Mobb Deep)

    2. The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory

    3. Reasonable Doubt

    4. Ready To Die

    5. In My Lifetime, Vol. 1

  • @The2bellas and Untitled, Stillmatic, It Was Written, The Blueprint and The Black Album were the shit too

  • This song is so great, Jay Z needs to go back to this

  • My most favorite classic hip-hop song.

  • one of da greatest tracks, by one of tha GREATEST mc's

  • this my shit!

  • How can he ever be considered #1? Every single song on Illmatic stomps this song. After cruising to Illmatic for so long now, this song sounds horrible.

Can't knock the hustle? This nigga's caught up in all the bustle. Can't rhyme for shit. All he's worried about is pumping out hit after hit. He wants that money, dog. That's why people see him as a business man. Nigga ain't a rapper. Definitely isn't #1 rapper of all time.

  • @besim101x

he aint no businessman, he is business...man!

  • @besim101x nigga u gotta b effin dumb as hell but u can keep tellin yoself dat wit yo dumb ass

  • @besim101x u bugging dog- illmactic iz all time- but saying dis nigga cant rap iz giving all ur credibility away- u in dat hate zone now

  • Truth be told. I read that J out grew Hip Hop. In some ways they are right. This brother is a successful bussniess man. Which shows the power of our Culutre... So kids its ok to go a University and become a professional. You are still Hip Hop yo... Dont let the media and lhaters fool you! Peace Ya!

  • Preech On Brother

  • idk jay-z throws some pretty good shit but old hard core rap will never die eazy-e is my god til the day i die

  • hwo the fuck havnt i herd about this album before and im a big fan of hip hop

  • @willyjucie

because you're not a fan of hip hop.

  • @365rounded how the fuck would you know that and yes i am, i live for the funk but you have to find about certain things at some point not like im going to pick up one record and all of sudden know ever hip hop track ever made.this was released before my time u cunt face twat

go suck a fat dick and choked on it

  • @willyjucie your obviously not a fan of hip hop if you havent heard reasonable doubt hahahahahahaha

  • i wish he still had pain in da ass in the intros that shit was classic

  • Jaffy...

  • Hip Hop died in the start of the 2000th century then the blueprint revived it, okay it may not have been hard old school crap but it was really well done with amazing flow and rhymes (even though it was commercial) Its called progression live with it.

  • You mean the 20th century...the 2000th century would be the year 200,000

  • I think he means the 21st century.

    1900's=20th century

    2000's=21st century

  • I think he means the 21st century. The 20th century ended at the end of 2000...

  • And the guy talkin at the front before the song is nicknamed Pain IN Da AZZ...

  • ILLUMINATI.

  • @CockSm0ker he might know about the illuminati and my actually be in it but don't act like people dont try to labal him as the forerunner for that shit, u dont see no one talken about green day, kiss or some other type of cult, they wanna talk about some one who started with nothing and had to make some real choices

  • I think he wasnt at first but he def is NOW......

  • this is a super classic

  • slick rick is the GOAT of Storytelling

  • oops my bad it is 4rm scarface i was thinkn of brooklyns finest sorry. peace

  • Great fuckin CD.

  • this fucking album is classic

  • airfaurce youre a fucking mongloid

  • rofl mongloid

  • LMAOOOO, call him lil' mongo

  • the start of the Song IS from a movie ....its not the same guy because they probably didnt want to go through using the thing from the movie and getting all legal about it but the conversation is from Scarface outside the burger place when tony gets his first "job"

  • try hearin this whole album on headphones, it feels like a movie plays out in your mind, its so nasty man

  • The start of this song is not from a movie...there was a guy on def jam (cant think of his name) but he would do the talking for the start of the songs ..look it up in def jams history. I kno it sounds like it could come from scarface ,but it's not.

  • The script is from scarface, but its just another guy saying the lines

  • @Arsolon618 LMFAO its from carlitos way not scarface haha im 13 and even i know dat

  • what is the start of this song from?

  • Scarface, the scene outside of the hamburger stand if i'm not mistaken.

  • You can't campare the two there form diffrent areas Jay didnt sart to get big until after Pac died anways. There both fucken Legends so let's leve it at that. ok and enjoy the damn song

  • no one cares, just listen to the song

  • obviously three people cared enough to click a button and you cared enough to respond...why would you even comment on shit if you didnt want to argue, god go shoot yourself in the right thigh you neutral peaceloving parrotfucker

  • @ankyismybitch

    bullshit

  • people talking about classics, if you really want to see what it's all about then check out "classic" w/ krs one, rakim, nas, and kanye west. "ye" has about as much depth as a bath tub compared to everyone else on that track-including Nas.

  • old school rap is even before biggie think about ll cool j, run dmc, slick rick ect, thats old school rap

  • theres too many young cats tryna say what albums are classic and what rappers are the best....if you aint a 80s baby or older then dont even say nothing.....ppl born in the 90s dont really have a good understanding of old school rap unless they had older brothers or cousins

  • hey im from the 90's and i only listen to old hip-hop. like nas, rakin, KRS-one, BIGGIE SMALLS (my favorite). i mean i do think that it had a stronger influence back then, but we still can tell whos good and not good and whos the best and what albums are classic

  • Yeah if i would compere Jay-Z to Rakim,Guru,2pac,MOP and other groups he would look like a fool fosho but if you compere him to Maze,Puffy he is pretty good.

Old school rap is and always will be the best rap cuz back then rappers had souls and where not in it only for the money.

  • damn that was a good post man.....i like what you said and you couldnt have said it better

  • ok i have no problem wit Jay Z he is a good Rapper but he is not better then 2pac pac is a legend around the world everywere u go u hear 2pac's music pac is a legend i'm not dissin jay z or anything i agree wit ppl tht he has good music but 2pac is better

  • Hold on yo, I was born in '92 and I recognize good music .

  • why does everyone under 18 feel the need to state their age?

  • @31MillerTime31 , lol its an attempt to try and disprove the stereotype that everyone under 18 no longer listens to real rap/hiphop anymore. btw im 16 ;) lol

  • @jimmytwotimez soo are u sayin?, cus i was born in the 90's i cant go in a record store and go listen to some old tunes

  • @jimmytwotimez hell yeah. thats what im talkin about. anyone born from 88-now doesnt have that perspective.

but youd be surprised these kids today...its like the internet is their memory

  • @jimmytwotimez understanding doesnt mean shit. it all comes down to an individuals opinion

  • @jimmytwotimez thats really ignorant..why does the older generation have to hate on the younger cats

  • @jimmytwotimez thank you, these 90's babys and fucking souja boy and all that gay shit

  • @jimmytwotimez the dudes got a point

  • @jimmytwotimez I feel wat u sayin I was born in 89, but my brother was born in 81 so I was able to hear songs that probably some of my friends probably never even heard of...compared to today I actually listen to old school hip hop more than the new crap thats out except for probably lupe fiasco he's my favorite artist in the game right now.

  • @jimmytwotimez what if you was born in the 90's and all you listened to was old school rap without the aid of any brothers or cousin's ? i was born 92 and i prefer old school rap. so can i still not comment ? or have an opinion ?

  • @shakazulu52 Im saying lol I would bet almost anything that i know more about hiphop then him lol

  • @jimmytwotimez im born in 93, sadly yu right. gotta older brother that put me on 2 jay, my friends think gucci or waynes the best shit out. wayne can spit, but bru dont rap bout nothin except himself. jay makes yu feel all his music, we relate 2 it. nd that is wat seperates jay from wayne or ny of the pop rappers.

  • @younggarrett93 To be honest my man. Jay is in a class by himself.

  • @jimmytwotimez how stupid do you sound, just because you're old doesn't mean you know everything, it's not like somebody can't just listen to OG stuff just cause they're a certain age, I was an only child but I bet I know just as much if not more than your ass does

  • @jimmytwotimez disagree. my cousin has family that listens to rock and shit. he knows more about hip hop than i do

  • @jimmytwotimez - I agree with that statement to a degree, but in all honestly, how can you assume that just because a person was born in the 90s he or she will have little to no understanding of good old school rap? How to you know what a person was introduced to outside of brothers, sisters, cousins, parents, and etc.? How can you merely assume that a person hasn't delved into the old school rap culture by choice and does have an understanding of what good rap was?

  • @jimmytwotimez I'm an 80s baby myself, but I still think you're selling a lot of 90s babies short. Just because a person was born in the 90s doesn't automatically make them ignorant of the old school rap culture, but it does make them more susceptible to today's trash.. So in that sense, I do see where you're coming from.

  • @KiaRyo i was born in 91' and i hate todays rap soooooo much

  • @ccaall0375

    me too man!!!

  • @jimmytwotimez well im 14 n dnt hve any older brothers r hang about with any older cousins n listen to alot older shit than this

  • @jimmytwotimez nd i probly own alot more old skul rap albums thn u. btw this isnt old skul rap i listen to wu tang n shit like tht thts old skul

  • @jimmytwotimez I beg to differ, I'm 15 and I love this, but best album back in the day was Binary Star's Water World, thats what I classify as REAL music!

  • @jimmytwotimez, Ur ignorant as hell, I was born in 91, I had great knowledge of Hip-hop before I got access to the internet to even look for old school songs, u cant speak for an entire generation just becuz ur older, get outta here wit dat.

  • @tjmack010 wuts this argument about

  • @tjmack010

    haha><!

  • @tjmack010 i was born in 94 devoted my whole life to this music i bet despite ur age i have a wider knowledge of hip hop content age is obeslete to maturity not all 16 year olds are trolling lames on youtube who love mainstream and bieber type shit and know nothing of the passion behind good music n i aint talkin kanyes crew

  • @kiledopeboy3

I agree. I'm 16 and I <3 the old school rap. Rakim, Nas, Tupac, Big L, Jay Z, Ice Cube, Mobb Deep, KRS One, Kool G Rap, Kane, etc. All great lyricists who put meaning and passion into their songs, not like 90% of the "MCs" today. Eminem went too pop on Recovery, and Jay Z is the only rapper left from way back still producing good music. Drake, J Cole and Lupe are the only three current arists I still listen to.

  • @AnthonyPellino drake?! dude is a pussy!! he tha straight defintion of pussy!

  • @kiledopeboy3 devoted your whole life huh... bitch you seventeen years old

  • @spartaaa bitch u cant count whore im 16 n i get more pussy then u lil lame ass no swag i be on youtube all day hatin on ppl cos my dick small lookin ass get the fuck outta here

  • @tjmack010

yo im from 91' nigga and you cant tell me shit been hearing THE FUGEES since i was 3, 2pac & Biggie since i was 6 and Hollering Ruff Ryders Anthem in goddam First Grade. Outkast ATLiens m,aaaaaaaan Screw that. imaa old school nigga, YALL some new school fools! Not to mention all the NAS i use to listen too. HIP HOP 91' LEGEND safu.

  • well, im a nineties kid, and i have all of jay's Albums. The mans a fucking legend and is still the best in my opinion. No one has a flow like him, he can switch up his flow probably five times in one line if he wanted to. and all this is coming from a country white guy.

  • Damn this song is so on point. whenever someone say successful, I picture Hova.

Before someone calls themself a rapper, they should pass a test with Jay

  • to be a Hip Hop ARTISTThey should Pass a exam given by KRS ONE....but you right, this is RAP

  • Yo man words cant even explain how good this song is. i listen to this everyday litterally.

  • the beat is too much man

    knobody did an evil job

  • Are You Serious Mary J BliGe
