  • lol i got a 77 with the 196 four cylinder... 3.5 liter

  • love that scout!!!

  • 258cu 4.2 ..sound nice ...what mods did you put in? and from where?...i got a '74 scout with the 4.2 straight six

  • i got a 1975 scout II. I love it alot it is my first truck. Its got a 318 dodge.

  • Sounds nice...

  • i like the cummins better

  • missing a breather there.

  • Sounds pretty healthy, I'd get rid of the kinking upper radiator hose, and take care of the blow holes in the valve cover. I don't know about the amc engines, but the IH engines really NEED the pcv to the air cleaner to keep the oil flowing right. Mine has a 392 v8, stick with the 6 cyl. Gas is killing me.

  • Had the 345V8 in my '72 scout. Must have gotten about 8mpg city 12 Highway..Had to give her up in '92 due to california emission laws.

    Have Fun!

  • sounds like what my dad said last week about his 1978 scout. 8 cyl.

  • i had a scout 800 series, swapped out the original engine for a crate 350 and 350 turbo tranny with the advanced adapters kit. The swap was easy.

  • did they come stock with straight engines??

  • yeep it's a AMC 4.2 it's like jeep wangler engine

  • I have a 73 Scout with the same engine. I was considering swapping in a V8, but the 258 is a good and simple engine, so I think I'll just rebuild and keep it.

  • i think same this engine it's so strong, mine have 4bbl eddlbrock and headers, i'll upload those news updates

  • its like the Jeep Cj engine, wranglers come with the 4.0, and it may be manufactured by GM ( not sure)
