it could be any station in lafd, dont matter, all of em are hero's and everyone should take the time to thank and appericiate them for what they do. :)
to become a firefighter of any california fire dept. you must go through 2 years of college for emt training, recieve your basic emt license, then you can take your fire academy and be put up for hire. if you wanna go paramedic/firefighter, get everything above, a paramedic license, and min. req is 2 years emt, and 2 years volunteer firefighter.
2 years?!?!?!? you can do an EMT program in a semester. the min requirement for medic school is 6mo or 1200 Hrs. and fire departments hire joe shmoe off the street if they can pass the test. smaller departments may require a fire academy but bigger departments like LAFD and LAco only require a pulse and passing their test
you have to go thru the whole hiring process application background must meet the min.requirements do a written test go thru interview and then background investigation review field investigation so on to medical investigation then if passed all then your off to the academy and there you have to outshine if not you are out.
Firefighter positions on the engine and truck are rotational. The boats, well let's just say you gotta have either time on or your an experienced diver.
yes,(ex)Engine f.f.'s would be the hydrant and nozzle position. The engineer is a rated member, and capt1.rides shotgun. On the Truck the f.f.'s are the top member, inside man and the tillerman. The A/O is a rated member and the Task Force Commander (Capt.2)rides shotgun
LAFD f.f.'s are trained and rotate through those f.f. positions given the station you are assigned has that apparatus. The purpose for this, if a f.f. falls out at an incident or calls in sick, his duties can be done by another f.f..
Hi Linda! It's your co-worker, and friend. I'm proud of him too! Welcome to the family! What a great extented family that we have. I am a PROUD WIFE of my FIREMAN-LAFD!
God Bless and stay strong to all of the men and women on the lines! THANK YOU! And, Thank you for your undying efforts!
Great video again....i just want to say that Fire Fighter Brent A. Lovrein will be dearly missed after passing away in the line of duty on Wednesday, March 26, 2008.
good video they do a very difficult job as shown with what happenned yesterday. for those who dont know a sudden explosion near LAX killed FF Brent Lovrien and critically injured Eng. Anthony Guzman along with a civilian
My husband works with both of them...Lovey and Guz...I love them both and this is really taking a toll on our boys..l.Dale went down at 14' on 5/1/02 at 14's.....we spent 7 days at Cedars...this just SUCKS
Do you mean to tell me there is an explorer post at station 58 now? When I was in the program back in 94, station 58's explorers disbanded to other stations cuz the firefighter in charge of the program at 58's got hurt, his name was ff Nick Ferrari, my buddy I grew up with introduced me into the program.
Nope, there is not a post at 58's. I am at Explorer Post 68 "mid-city". I just put 58 because i live in their first-in and it was the first place i ever rode out, and they are my family away from my family from CAPT. Larson to FF Brown, they are all superb (and it helps that they saved my house from buring down....twice)
I have a question, does Ferrari still work with the department, cause we have a Capt down at 58's named Ferrari.
I don't know if Ferrari still works with the Dept, I was hearing when he got hurt back in 94, he hurt his knee, he supposedly got a lateral transfer to L.A. County Fire when he came back, but I doubt that rumor was true, if there's a Capt. Ferrari at station 58 now, that might be him, he may be a Capt by now, yeah, I grew up in 58's first-in, my uncle Stewart Premmer was an Engineer on the Task Force there, I was just starting in the explorer program back in 94 when they had a post at 58's
I know Stew, he is really kool. I took over his cooking shift 1 time, and boy was he happy. He is really cool, and his son Sammy was a really cool Explorer. Where in 58's did you grow up

On my last sea voyage, our team did 375,000 dollars of catch in 5 days. Myself and my 3 mates earned 27,000 for 5 days work. Last year I cleared well over 135K but it isn't easy and comes with a price. If anyone needs to make some quick money drop me a line, 25K in 5 days clean is not bad.
Hypothermia sets in at 80 to 120 seconds so basiclly if you can swim and withstand the brutal seas, you have 2 minutes to say your Rosary and never be seen nor heard from. No Irish bagppipes, no ceremony, no parade of trucks, a cold. harsh, brutal death with permanet entombment in the grasps of the old lady, the old lady being the Pacific. She can be one mean bitch. I do respect you guy's a lot though and regret my comments from earlier.
Yeah that seems pretty harsh dying like that.Firefighters have a couple of seconds before dying of brutal burns. You talk like If Firefighters have it easy. There Is A Difference between Saving A Stranger and Fishing Crabs.I truly, and I mean it,I truly respect your job.I hate Seafood by the way.
It is pitch black, sub zero cold, ice on you, winds in excess of 50 to 60 knots, waves submerging the boat, rocking it at near 45 degree angles and you, holding an 80 pound steel cage, and only ONE hand to save your ass from going over. The north pacific, she doesn't surrender her dead, she keeps them becuase if you go over your gone, you cannot be saved, the surf will suck you down. Scared?
I was a bit hard and do apologize. Sometimes people forget other heoros like the heros who bring you your favorite foods to your table, no one thinks about the shear terror that goes on in the high seas. It is the scariest thing you could ever experience, you can die at any given second and have no chance in hell to do anything about it. I cry when I see my kids!
Thats right...firefighters become firefighters for the respect, honor and duty, NOT for the money. nad what lafd313 said was right you can not compare thses jobs. We save lives everyday single day! have u ever saved a life itsmemeDDP, cause I am only 15 and helped many people and saved lives, i helped keep someones son or daughter, mother or father, grandma, or grandpa alive.
You do what you do for the money, people become firefighters because they want to HELP PEOPLE so that right there should tell you that you guys aren't even on the same page as us.
sure its one thing to go and do what you guys do with the crazy conditions and what not, but to put your life on the line for a complete stranger is something totally different, something you will probabley NEVER get to experiance,so next time you want to compare the two jobs then think again because there is no comparison.
Wow, ok buddy whats the point of taking the time to somehow stumble upon this video, only to bash the fire service? Crab fishing is a dangerous job and if thats your thing then good for you, but don't come over here and bash on the fire service trying to compare the two professions...
You fall over the Ocean up there does not give back her dead. It is dark, stormy, cages and nets flying, the ship ready to flip at anytime, waves crashing over the boat, you handling the net with one hand and the other holding on for dear fucking life so your not swept into the Pacifics web of death. I respect you guys, but live in reality, it's just not about the "brotherhood" Try my job and see how quick you will shit your pants guaranteed bro.
You fuckers act like you got the only hard job in the world, the only one with danger and what not. Look, I fish Crab in the Gulf of Alaska. In the winter, sub zero cold, winds in excess of at times 75 knots and seas 25 feet on a "tame" night. We work 18n hours straight, sleep 6 and then repeat for weeks on weeks. We get paid well, but it is the most dangerous job in the world. You fall over goodbye, no truckie to save you and shit.
Everyone needs appreciate the fact that these men and women put their lives on the line every day for someone they don't know. They are truly our cities heros.
