Everyone i know in is so focused on (the hardships of fighting) that no one asks why the hell we are there in the first place. If i had know the whole story i never would have went on tour.
yes im a canadian, and i know the link i posted is a british doc
I know it's hard and there's rules for what you can and can't do. But you have the gun, if you see someone counting how moony of you there are grab him, cuff him, point a gun at his head and ask him where they are.
too many armchair soldiers, COD gamers who think its "real" just cuz the graphics are good, and wikipedia bitches who think they know everything. ive never been there and havent served yet, so why try to pretend i know things i dont to impress randoms who HAVE been there and sacrificed for their country. Fuckin internet brings out the ignorant asshole in most of us
@ WOGI5M loser shut the fuck up I was there in the summer as well and it's true what funker is sayin, it topped out my thermometer too so if you don't believe us then go and find out for youself, if not quit trying to be like a little internet tough guy via Youtube and shut the fuck up.
@funker530 Impossible. The highest temperature recorded on earth is 57 degrees celsius. And the highest recorded temperature in Afghanistan was 49 degrees celsius.
@WOGI5M Also the hottest day in Canada was 46 celcius. Are you actually trying to say that Afghanistan has only gotten 3 degrees hotter then Canada? I would love to see your sources!
@funker530 You know that it snows in most parts of Afghanistan, which has a land mass less than the size of Texes. So it isn't surprising that there is only a 4 degree Celsius difference to Canada.
It is impossible to survive outside where temperatures are over 47 degrees Celsius unless you have protective clothing of some sought. If the temperature is 60 degrees Celsius, it is guaranteed death.
@WOGI5M Well mate like I said, I lived there out in the boonies for 7 months so please don't try to lecture me on what it's like. So you are saying that when the Temp in Manitoba reached 46 Celsius everyone was 1 degree from death? At night it would go down to 30 celcius and it would start to feel chilly at 20. Even if it was maximum 47 celcius like you say we were doing 6km foot patrols loaded with 100 pounds of gear and 3 layers of clothing including a kevlar vest. Imagine how hot it was then
FInd out what's really happening in Afghanistan and watch the film WAGING PEACE: Canada in Afghanistan....you can order a copy on line....WAGING PEACE: Canada in Afghanistan is the only independent film to be made on the Canadian mission since the war began....really good film.
Respect to the infantry that do most of the fighting, but the attitude of "afghanistan is the infantry" is disrespectful to the support troops that allow the combat arms troops to fight. Without the gun plumbers and supply boys the weapons would not function. Respect is a sign of true strength.
and the gun plumbers and supply boys are always in the news having beers on canada day and timmies in kaf and everyone thinks afghanistan is a dog and pony show.
this documentary is strictly for the infantry showcasing our struggles and where we operate because for us there is no timmies. or at least there wasn't on my tour. there's no disrespect, it's simply a tribute to the infantry. if i was a support trade maybe i would do a tribute to them, but i'm not.
Robert Fowler Canada’s longest serving ambassador to the UN, who was kidnapped by Al Qaeda for 5 mths. Said it is wrong "to effectively colonise Afghanistan and replace their culture with ours, for that is what we seek. It is time to leave."
Bring our boys back home. I really see no end in site with this war. I'm Also sick of seeing our guys get killed for no damn reason. Americans are the ones who made a mess of Afghanistan let them clean it up. We didn't spend billions on aid during the Russian invasion then leave the country to self implode . We didn't spend billions to support the Pakistani ISI who now seems to support the Taliban. Im not a religious person but i hope god keeps our troops safe.
I only want to say one thing to the wise producer who came up with the title "Fighting ghosts". Ghosts do not hide in bushes 500 metres away from the intended target. COWARDS DO.
@fanClassicRock "ghost" seems like a title given to maybe a SEAL or Delta something to that extent but one hiding in a bush 500m away is a sniper, and he is by no means a coward. there is absolutely NOTHING cowardly about being behind enemy lines where exposure is a reality, and there is less than nothing cowardly in taking a mans life it takes a very brave and collected person to kill. regular soldiers may even less brave because there andrenaline is doing the killing (thats a metaphor)
@21Assasin sorry i take that back i hadn't watched the video by ghosts they're refering to the haji's 500m aways spraying AKs randomly just barely hitting the broad side of a barn. i agree an ill planned sneak attack 500m away is cowardly. there is still nothing cowardly about killing though
@21Assasin ok asssasin, that is exactly how it is. they are calling them ghosts because they never see who are firing they stay away from the soldiers like they have plague, they dont engage from close unless they have overwhelming numbers like they did to attack some far flung posts in Afghanistan some time back.
@fanClassicRock yeah i got that after watching the video. i'd thought i saw a guy with a sniper in the preview pic. I definitely agree that the afghanis at least don't seem to be even slightly warfighters, i've heard the iraqis are a little tougher, but people say they are hard because there out in the stick eating like a cup of rice a day, but i'ts like that at there homes too over there.
The Afghan war is a war crime I'm ashamed that Canada even went there. When's the last time an afghan committed an act of terror against anyone outside of Afghanistan. We all know why the Canadian,British and US Governments are there is to profit from the opium trade and impose world domination by propping a puppet Hamid Karzai government.
Why are we there?Few people really get it.Here's a short history lesson.Afghanistan and northern Pakistan were and are a haven for extremists bent on jihad against the west.We have to have a stable government in both these countries for one very good reason.Pakistan has nukes. To bad a lot of Americans died because bush took his eye off the ball and invaded Iraq. Its going to be a long haul in Afghanistan but necessary if the rest of the world wants to sleep at nite.
I hate it when Americans think we do shit all! We were in world war 1 and 2 years before them! And in size to loss ratio lost more men then them! Grow up you stupid yankys!
Have you read Angels from Hell? It's about a US Soldier in Iraq, the average US (Infantry) soldier plays guard duty in a FOB and does patrols, sort of like the soldiers in this video. These boys aren't JTF2 or CSOR so they usually don't go and do specific mission so shut the fuck up you ignorant piece of shit.
@Brandon439 WHAT THE FUCK? who the fuck do you think you are you dumbshit. What the fuck gives you any right to say that. i'll bet you've been in the army for you're whole life and seen battle so much. i'd assume you knew that was sarcasm if you had besic cognitive function but since you don't i'll spell it out. any actual soldier not just out of training wouldn't be as retarded and ignorant as yourself. when you've seen real war and finish crying to your old drill seargent you can say shit.
@Brandon439 Since 1952 Canada the USA and Great Brittian have been involved in Combat Exercise Alaska C.E.A. Since its start day the USA has NOT WON ONE EXERCISE!!! so bight your tounge and sit in your moms basement wishing you knew what your talking about. Oh and if your hungry enough to invade country's for oil......... Alberta has more than afghanistan and iraq................Come fuckin get it!!!
@420Leprikon I'm Cdn and been deployed over there. Afghan doesn't have oil for starters, has the largest deposit of minerals in the world. None of which are being mined. Educate yourself, I would take an American anyday over you.
John Maresca of Unocal tells congress that to access the $20 trillion in Caspian Sea oil the only possible route is a pipeline across Afghanistan. To build this pipeline US needs regime change in Afghanistan to appease bankers and Unocal.
Following the Soviet Collapse in 1991 several new nations in Central Asia are created. Major US oil companies, including Exxon Mobil, Texaco, Unocal, BP Amoco, Shell, and Enron bribe heads of state to secure the oil in these regions. These oil fields have an estimated $20 trillion. The problem is getting the oil out. The only viable route is through Afghanistan.

I have been watching these guys in training. They have great weapons and gear, but their soldierly skills are rubbish. I cannot believe that their trainers have been in action. There is no sense of urgency and the exercises are not "for real" I found the same problems in my own experiences in Vietnam with the US army. I though they also had the same casual approch. We New Zealander take war very seriously. Why? Because we are experienced at losing battles. Winning all the times makes you soft.
@funker530 Countries like New Zealand, Japan, China, India, Germany and Russia are not interested in fighting wars. Why? Because we know what defeat is. Until you know defeat, you will not have tasted war. Canadian, British and American war history is all around D-Day and the thrust to Germany. It is about victory. You people do not know defeat.
@SugarTomAppleRoger Your wrong, In WW1, the allies lost about 90% of the time in everybattle, mostly because our weapons were wrong and germany got hold of mondern warfare first. Until 1917 when the americans declared war on germany we started wining. I think we know what loosing feels like.
@killboy11 You ae from Canada. Canadians know only of Vimy Ridge, a huge Victory for Canada. You Canadians are lucky. We New Zealanders did face defeat. Why? Because we did not have the superb generals that the US did.
@SugarTomAppleRoger Dont forget Pashenndaele, what no allied country couldnt conquer we did. We had British officers back in WW1, our pupulation was 7.5m, and we still had around 700 000 soldiers deployed in europe.
@killboy11 OK. 700,000 soldiers is a hell of a lot of men for a small country. I will read more about WW1 and Canada's efforts. You always get the impression here that Canada cherry picked battles like the US did - ones where victory was assured. I always connect the Battle of Paschendale with the French. I also think of WW1 as a mainly between the French and Germans also.
@SugarTomAppleRoger Well canada wasnt supose to be in WW1 but.. when germany and their general Shleiffen had the plan to cut around to get in to france(from belgium) witch begium signed a peace with Britain over 100 years ago , so automatically they were declared war against germany, witch lead to Canada declaring war automatically agaisnt Germany as well since Canada was being controled by Britain
@killboy11 Hi. As a young man of 29, I am very impressed with your insight and knowledge. The whole of WW1 was a mess, and we are paying for it even now. Someone needs to break this cycle of wars and the treaties that cause them. 9/11 was bad, but to my mind it should have been sorted out as an international police action. I'm sure that all connected would have been caught years ago. Now we have some complicated war, and who knows where it is going?
@SugarTomAppleRoger That you, ye i do to beleive that it should have been solved in a international matter. This was is costing even more lives, wasnt the people in the towers enouf?
@killboy11 There were around 2000 people killed in the towers. This was partially due to the planes, and also because of the very poor evacuation procedures. The figure should have been much lower. The second tower to collapse should have been evacuated completely. Even in the first tower, people were told to stay there. In answer to your question. No. It was not a reason to start a series of major military attacks whoich could escalate into world war. No way.
@SugarTomAppleRoger I agree. All the Al-queda and Taliban warriors could start grouping and to tell the people of South asia to go agaisnt the Americans and Canadians who are deployed there. To come to my point, theres a high chance that this could escalate into a war world.
@killboy11 Armed conflict on an international scale is danger. World war - it start out locally and rapidly spread. Look at WW2. It was really a merging of all whole lot of wars, which all intensified. There was the Chinese Japanese war, the French German war, the Russian Finnish war, the internal bickering in Yugoslavia and the Italian adventure into Africa. A particalarly bad side effect was the Holocaust. Conflicts in a region often break out into revenge cycles, sucking others in.
@SugarTomAppleRoger In WW1, the conflic started very diffrent compared to WW2. It started it out with the assasination at Sarajevo, and the Hungarian declaring war on the serbes, and is then when the alliances came in to play. Russia declaring war over Hungarians, Germany declaring war on russia and france, then Britain delcaring war on Germany witch lead to many countries at war in europe. Very little went neutral.
@killboy11 That is true. You have to look at the situation now. There are still alliances. The US has a coalition, but many there are not really friends. The US also thinks its enemies are Isolated. Their enemies remain Germany, China, Japan and Russia. All have obvious unfinished business with the US. There is still the idealogical gap between Capitalism and Communism.
@SugarTomAppleRoger this is a very late reply too your last comment, but Japan and Germany are at peace with the US, they have signed with NATO so the only way the could realy get revenge is by getting out of NATO first.
@SugarTomAppleRoger no are you kinding me the canadian have some of the best training. its just that the canadian people belive in peacekeeping. Canada is a very strong nation in military power this is the story of one soldier not the full army
@haleymadimckenzie You are lucky to be a strong nation and with a "full army". That is impressive. We in New Zealand would be lucky to be able to muster up a brigade, Australia maybe a division. We Anzacs have never kidded ourselves. We are weak nations. Seriously, I think you are deluding yourself that Canada is strong militarily. You would have 200,000 soliders max. Even tiny Switzeraland has 350,000.
@SugarTomAppleRoger yes becasue the swiss have mandatory service canada is all volenteer sorry if i spleed volenteer wrong. but the swiss are larger for that reason . if canada needed a million we could get it becasue we had 3 million in service a the end of ww2 with just 11 million people
@haleymadimckenzie haley. I have seen the Swiss Army in training and also the New Zealand Army and British Army. I would say the Swiss are far superior. Why? The are a much larger army. We used to go training with the Battery (200 men) or the Regiment (1000 men). The Swiss go training with the Corps - about 60000 men. The Swiss equipment is right up to date. The UK and Kiwi equirement is a joke, like the Face computer system which looks like something from the 1950s.
@SugarTomAppleRoger haha wtf are you saying... you really think they take this as a joke.. you are so ignorant. and aside from battles in africa and vietnam when has NZ or Aust lost a war?
@walkertexasranger33 I talked of losing in battle. Our (Australian and New Zealand) disgrace was in the Battle of Greece. We were hammered. Of course Canadians have never heard of that. Canadians cherry pick their fights. Sorry, but thats true. Every Canadian battle was fought when victory was assured, otherwise Canadians do not commit. We know that hard battles are always fought going backwards not forwards. We know. Thats why we treat war seriously. Canadians still have to learn.
@walkertexasranger33 As I said, until you are going backwards in a battle, you will never really know war. The Japanese, Indian, Chinese and Soviets know it very well. That is why they are not warlike now. Like New Zealanders, these countries hate war and will leave it to you Canadians who have still to learn.
@walkertexasranger33 Good grief. Now you say you are "fighting for freedom". That is just one big big lie. The truth is that you are fightng there are you want to be friends with the United States. It has nothing to do with "freedom". Now I have heard it all. Are all you Canadians as dshonest as this?
As for being a troll - that would be you. You are the one with all the swearing and insults. I am trying to discuss this rationally, not like the insulting childlike way you are.
@SteeZins6 I guess you have. The Germans certainly didn't like Canadians. When they heard Canadians were in the area, they rushed towards the Soveits. They only drove shell casings into the German prisoners' knees. You used to wrap German prisoners in barbed wire and drag them behind your tanks. I would certainly not face Canadians. You guys are brutal.
@SugarTomAppleRoger ok so the Boer war was assured? the war of 1812 was assured? WW1, WW2 and D-Day were sure wins?? even though canada joined asap. Korean war was almost lost at the start and still it was guaranteed.. fuck you are completely retarded
@SugarTomAppleRoger you talk as though you are 500 year veteran of modern warfare.. as though you had a birds eye view of every battle in history.. youre a fucking cunt.. youre military and countrymen would be completely ashamed if they knew you existed
@walkertexasranger33 Exactly my point. You need to learn manners, son. Your people have never faced any battle where you were on the defence team, with all the odds in the opposing sides favour. That is war - something you Canadians have yet to learn. We Australians and New Zealanders know this well. That is why we hate war. The only decent sized battle you mention is D-Day. This was a one sided affair, which just suited Canada.
@SugarTomAppleRoger you make outrageous accusations about war as if you treat it like a fucking video game and expect respect in return.. you are out of your fucking mind...
@walkertexasranger33 I don't expect any respect for one so arrogant as yourself. You are boasting about your country's brave men fighting a bunch of mountain villagers. You call us cowards as we don't want to play. Well, you can have your "war". We know that small wars can get bigger. We have learnt this the hard way. We admire people like the Swiss. They are neutral.
@SugarTomAppleRoger so ignorent canadains fought and many died in many balltes in ww1 2 and so did austallia and new zeland vimt ridge was not by any means an aserd battle so u lost like 1000 men in greese and lost u alos won lots in ww1 and canada loat in deipe with the other british troops so stop making statments that are ignornt
@SugarTomAppleRoger Fuck, you're such an obvious troll. Australian here, by the way. What in the name of shit are you talking about, you ignorant fool? Canada being "yet to learn" about war? Like fucking NEW ZEALAND knows anything about modern warfare! Your country's "defence force" is a pathetic joke. If it was not for the countries you are allied with (US, UK, Australia, Canada etc), your arse would have been speaking Japanese a LONG time ago. Your ignorance makes my head hurt.
@larissaNellie Fortunately most Australians do not think like you. We think Australian soliders are brave. It is unfortunate that you have such a low opinion of New Zealand. Your country is a great power and mine of no consequnce. That doesn't make you a better person than me.
@SugarTomAppleRoger how can u say that Canada always fights wars it knows it can win and never really fights hard and say Australia and new zeland are grown up dont fight and know what its like to lose GUESS what Australia is fighting in irag and Afghanistan and new zeland is in Afghanistan ,, canada isnt in the immoral war in iraq hummm idiot , also canada austallia and new zaland all joined ww1 and 2 at the same time so ya how can u say things about ww1 and 2 canada fought great at vimy ridge
@SugarTomAppleRoger i have read the miliraty historys of cannada austalia and new zeland and there is noting that really stands out to me that says canada picks it batels new zeland fights and loses some austaila is in iraq and afganastan newzeland isn't in then but i wouldn't say you know s much more about war there just becuse we are in Afghanistan and you are not and u said austallai is like new zeland but they are in irag and Afghanistan your augments make no sense please explain your self
@SugarTomAppleRoger oh ya and what you said about going on the defensive canada was invading in the war of 1812 when was new zeland invaded , and only wars that new zeland lost was Vietnam and its not like it was a real lose usa just pulled out you also Canada dident go to that war so humm maby we knew it was a bad war to get into guess new zeland dident i would really like to hear back from you because your arguments make no sense
@SugarTomAppleRoger Also, you're talking about how Canada is not experieced with war; even if that was true, is that something to be ashamed of? Ashamed of being a peaceful country? Ashamed of redirecting money away from the military and toward better things?
EVERYONE takes war seriously. It's okay for your weak arse to sit there down by the south pole blabbering away about how NZ is so serious about war... while under the protection of us Australians. You're just another stupid fuckin NZer.
NZ is one of the smallest countries out there, it barely needs a military. Who the fuck is going to attack NZ? No one. You also have a very small military so stfu.
@SugarTomAppleRoger 70's surplus is great equipment? renting chinook's we owned at one point in the 60's is great? wow. what kind of equipment are you using? and its not the equipment or tech one has.......it's his skills and training that keep him alive and in the fight. You could have all the tech in the world , but if that soldier aint trained up properly its a huge waste of money.Money better spent training more highly skilled soldiers.True canadians are soldiers from birth, its in our blood
@420Leprikon I guess so. We New Zealanders are very like the Russians, who are closest to you guys. We don't like war. The Russians must be terrified of having a large warlike people next door to them.
@SugarTomAppleRoger If you lived next to the USA who have tried 4 times to invade canadian soil (Certaine individual's) , wouldnt you have some top notch soldiers? And what about russia? I dont care who you are..... Dont chalenge our freedom and you wont have anything to fear from canada. "For a people who are free , and wish to remain so , a well-organized and armed militia is there best security" - Thomas Jefferson. Smart man eh? There will always be evil and tyrrany our job is to abollish it.
@420Leprikon O well. I guess you are lucky to have such top notch soldiers. Be honest though. Having a great army is about projecting your will on others. Why otherwise is the mighty Canadian army in Afghanistan. Is it because you want to control their northern neighbours and your old enemy.
@SugarTomAppleRoger Yes thats exactley why canada has a HUGE army LOL!!!!! 200,000 forces personel in total dude , that aint alot. And yes we are in afghanistan but not by the peoples wishes you see our primeminister has ABSOLUTE and TOTAL controll over our forces , not the general public. And i have never heard of canada just invading a country for no reason, and oil? we have more then afghanistan , iraq , and saudi arabia.Lumber? nope we have tons of that to. water? nope.
@420Leprikon Than you have just stated that this war is a just war. If Canada gets involved than you can be sure its that important. Canada does not go to war for frivolus reasons. Peoples wishes?? Most Canadians are more interested in eating hot dogas and watching the hockey game, Besides since when do you fight a war bassed on polling the ignorant?
@MegaWolfgang Um ya as important as George H.W. Bush saying they will hunt binladen down then a week later says we dont care about him. You see the REAL terrorists have almost complete controll of the USA and what do you think the NAU and SPP do for canada and mexico? anybody? Loss of indavidual rights and freedoms , loss of our nation as a whole , and a military dictatorship. Our charter of rights and freedoms clearly states that we are to abolish any governance that takes them away from us.
@420Leprikon O well. I guess that Ghandi and me would disagree. I don't possess firearms myself. Look. The whole point of this debate is that countries like Canada and th US say their people are brave and resolute fighting men, and accuse us people in Switzerland and New Zealand as being cowards and "pussies". Well, thats OK then. We probably are. New Zealand and Switzerland know full well the effects of war. We hate it. If that makes us pussies, so be it.
@SugarTomAppleRoger im not saying your a pussie and no reasonable freethinking individual in the world likes war. Im simpley saying that laying down your arms is a sure means for tyrrany to prevaile. You dont wish to own firearms and thats cool but dont take my freedom away to own one legally and responsibly. I made a coment on your remark about the training of our forces. You made an observation and i replied with facts. Even though the swiss dont like war they understand it is inevitable.
@420Leprikon Thanks. I just get upset that countries like Switzerland, France, Italy and New Zealand are always being portayed as cowards and pussies, especially by Americans. My father's division was completely overrun by Italian tanks in WW2. How do you think we feel when they are called cowards that run especialy by the Canadians and English. As Canadians and Americans, you are very lucky in that you celebrate great victories like Vimy Ridge and Iwo Jima. We were beaten most of the time.
@SugarTomAppleRoger It is because of Al Quda and the Taliban, and the 24 Canadians killed on 9/11. If those planes had hit 2 hours later there would have been over 100 of our citizens dead. Those buildings were called the WORLD TRADE CENTRE For a reason.
@MegaWolfgang No...im pretty sure an angry lil texan planned all that bud. poll's show that 80% of americans know it was the gov. not a group that the CIA created in the 80's to fight russian's in afghanistan. I am with every canadian who wants the real terrorists to be tried and found guilty but how do you trie a nations gov for war crimes , acts of terror , and inciting fear? I know those towers didnt collapse on themselves. I believe the firefighters&cops when they say they heard expolsions.
@MegaWolfgang The truth is in front of you and if you cant see it then you sir are truely the ignorant indavidual here so like you stated ... bight your tongue and speak not till spoken to. Pilots for 911 truth , engineer's for 911 truth , NYFD for 911 truth , NYPD for 911 truth are all nuts eh? 200,000,000 americans are nuts eh? You wanna be a fuckin internet bully bud ive got no time for true gutter trash like yourself . The truth always surface's. Wars have always been fought for profits.
@MegaWolfgang Mmmmm dont think you have the required equipment for that man , and for a conspiracy nerve , Sorry if i truely am more educated than your backwater sister/cousin fucking ass. Any monkey can talk shit bud but why dont we talk face to face? If your gunna fucking call someone a terrorirst due it in person you wannbe internet bully. P.S. claiming to be a CIA agent can land you in prison for 40 years in US jail bud. I would watch that. My lawyer will be taking a look at your posts.
@MegaWolfgang And by that same logic 2 + 2 = 7. Jet fuel is 75% kerosene which is no where near hot enough to melt the steel in the twin towers. Unfortunatly for the gov's of USA and Canada alot of people in these nations can add. A truely wise man once said " A government big enough to give you everything you want , is strong enough to take everything you have" that same man also said " Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on whats for dinner , Liberty is arming and educating that lamb"
@MegaWolfgang Did you seriously just call me a fucking terrorist bud? PM me man ill give you phone number and we can meet and talk face to face.My father who is a vet would like to talk to you aswell. You are a fucking lush and have no justifaction calling me a fucking terrorist.
@420Leprikon How in the hell is that calling you a terrorist? You were claiming that some conspiracy group knew that the buildings could not have come down by being hit by planes. I said lots of experance with planes flying into high rises. In other words how would they know since it has never happened before?? I guess I should have worded it as they not you. No I was not trying to call you a terrorist. Your Dads a vet. So am I son. PPCLI forever.
@MegaWolfgang isnt this sugartomappleroger guy a loon. he was arguing with me a while back saying asutralia and NZ are better because they "lost major battles in war times and canada never has" hes fucking out of his mind overall. his reasoning is so flawed.
@walkertexasranger33 I never said that Australia and NZ was better. I said that they understood what it is like to lose in a war. Canada is lucky, as you managed to win all your battles. I am saying that you have a liking for war that we in New Zealand don't. That dislike can only come from losing, The Japanese, Germans and Russians understand that. Canadians and English have still to learn.
@SugarTomAppleRoger im sorry to say but i really dont think you understand what happened in the last 100 years. New Zealand and Australia have never lost a war but they have lost battles and suffered many casualties just as Canada and Great Britain. Dieppe is the best example that would hopefully open your eyes to this bigotry. 2000 captured, 2000 retreated, 1000 dead, it involved rougly 5100 Canadian, American rangers, and British regulars.
@SugarTomAppleRoger it was colossal failure because of the fact that it did not turn into a surprise attack as it was intended and there were far more germans than expected in the area. but it helped set the stage for the future Italian campaign and D-Day. I really dont need to go far too much into detail because you can look it up yourself. but that is just one example.
@SugarTomAppleRoger Another thing i dont think you understand is that from the Korean War to the Afghani war in 2002 Canada had been actively and still is actively involved in peace keeping world wide. Canada has dismantled its nuclear arms a while back and has denied on a few occasions to have a missle defence grid implimented by the USA in the north. you labeling Canada as a "war like" country is completely ignorant. there are only 60-000 regulars and 30-000 reserves.
@SugarTomAppleRoger Russia had participated in a global arms race with the United States for over 50 years which included the backing of many militants in different wars to counter the others efforts. Japan was bombed into submission and has been under the military influence of the USA as an ally since the end of WW2. the same for germany, it was split in half by the 2 cold war patrons and has only been reunited for 20 years.
@SugarTomAppleRoger NZ, Australia, Germany, Japan have all contributed to the humanitarian efforts in iraq or afghanistan or both in the past decade. much of what you say seems to be based off of someones false information you learned when you were a child and it never seemed to phase you that any of it was wrong. im guessing your father gave you your opinions as you use his lose against italy as an example as to how NZ has lost major battles. regardless you need to read more instead of filling
@SugarTomAppleRoger and nobody participates in a war without losing something " I said that they understood what it is like to lose in a war. Canada is lucky, as you managed to win all your battles" i seriously suggest you read up on 20th century conflicts to give yourself a more well-rounded view of things. Canada only one its battles through tremendous spirit, drive and sacrifice as anyone else.
@walkertexasranger33 What I am trying to say is that soldiers never get over the shame of losing in battle. The Veterans Day Parades are for the victors. The losers do not attend out of shame. I know that very well. My father hated war all his life. I am not saying that Canadians are "war like", but it seems some are. In England, they certainly are. They said "the lads are up for it and want to get at the enemy". I applaud that fighting spirit, but it only comes from victorious nations.
@SugarTomAppleRoger NZ and AUS couldve lost its battles due to many factors, cut off supply lines, not enough men, overwhelmed by the enemy through tactics, regardless thats irrelevant when comparing nations.
@walkertexasranger33 Well. I just know from my relatives what happened. My father was in the Battle of Maleme. I guess you will not have heard of that. They got beaten by a small force of Germans who landed by parachute.
My dad's cousin was in te Battle of Meredet, which the Canadians were in. In this case they were in the parachutes. You have a completely different view if you win or lose.
@SugarTomAppleRoger I dont have a completely different view if I win or lose solely, everyone does. and its unfortunate they lost and yes i do agree troop morale is one of the biggest factors in fighting a war if you are expecting to win. but to say canada is a warlike country in the present clearly doesnt represent canada now if you look at how the majority of people are against wars in the middle east. i myself am joining the reserves though.
@walkertexasranger33 I think that it is important for a country to pick its battles do that you win every time. My dad's unit was the 2nd New Zealand Division. No one has heard of it, as they fought mainly in losing battles and they were moving backwards. It is actually harder to fight moving backwards, my father said.
My father's cousin was in the 82nd United States Division. It was quite well known, as it moved forward and won all its battles. The heroes are the winners only.
@SugarTomAppleRoger humans are warlike . and you said many times canada is warlike. i think you need to choose your words wisely and you keep stating the obvious by saying pretty much only the victors write the history books. its not that nobody knows about those battles in the medeteranian becuase NZ and otehr common wealth fought in them its because they were fought in the medeteranian outside of the european theatre which most people dotn know much about
@SugarTomAppleRoger better yet not many people remember or even know of what NZ or AU did in the world wars and that is out of ignorance but that is also because it is kind of irrelevant in modern times if you dont live in that region of the world. just like most americans and British dont know what canada did.
@walkertexasranger33 Here is a clip about the Battle of Maleme. The "English" mentioned in the documentary is of course the defeated New Zealand troops. Canada has never had a disgrace like this.
The documentary is from the viewpoint of the Europeans (victors).
@SugarTomAppleRoger buddy i dont understand the german language. yes Canada lost over 1100 men of poorly trained young canadians in dec 1941 along with british honkong and indian troops out numbered nearly 4 to 1... aug 1942 dieppe raid fails to a much smaller force even though the royal navy and air force were there in support the field troops still were held back because of poor planning. i dont even know why i have to bother telling you this because for an old man
@SugarTomAppleRoger you seem to care more about whos dick is smaller then about having some respect/dignity and maturity. Canada without much in the european theatre outside of the atlantic warfare at the start of the war because of the devastation ww1 had caused on the public, they didnt want to repeat it.. regardless you should stop trolling these videos.

"We are simply not prepared to foot the massive price in blood and treasure, which it would take to effectively colonize Afghanistan and replace their culture with ours, for that seems to be what we seek.
The US hasn't lost tens of thousands of troops. It's more in the vicinity of 800. Human life is human life. Just because our casualties aren't as high as that of the US,doesn't mean we deserve to get disrespected.
No it most certainly does not. The American army is in a very different war in Iraq then us in Afgan. If we we're in Iraq we would be taking even heavier losses. They have better gear.
@xCSORx well they re taking more casualties than we are in afghanistan. aand while some of their kit is better than ours we still have far superior training. but that doesn't matter cuz were both on the same side.
Everyone i know in is so focused on (the hardships of fighting) that no one asks why the hell we are there in the first place. If i had know the whole story i never would have went on tour.

@WOGI5M Well we have pics of the thermometer showing 64 celcius. That was in the sun, but then again so were we.
FUNKER530 1 year ago
@WOGI5M Also the hottest day in Canada was 46 celcius. Are you actually trying to say that Afghanistan has only gotten 3 degrees hotter then Canada? I would love to see your sources!
FUNKER530 1 year ago
@funker530 You know that it snows in most parts of Afghanistan, which has a land mass less than the size of Texes. So it isn't surprising that there is only a 4 degree Celsius difference to Canada.
It is impossible to survive outside where temperatures are over 47 degrees Celsius unless you have protective clothing of some sought. If the temperature is 60 degrees Celsius, it is guaranteed death.
WOGI5M 1 year ago
@WOGI5M Well mate like I said, I lived there out in the boonies for 7 months so please don't try to lecture me on what it's like. So you are saying that when the Temp in Manitoba reached 46 Celsius everyone was 1 degree from death? At night it would go down to 30 celcius and it would start to feel chilly at 20. Even if it was maximum 47 celcius like you say we were doing 6km foot patrols loaded with 100 pounds of gear and 3 layers of clothing including a kevlar vest. Imagine how hot it was then

@WOGI5M underneath all of that. After you climatize 40 celcius feels like a mild 20 celcius day back home.

Respect to the infantry that do most of the fighting, but the attitude of "afghanistan is the infantry" is disrespectful to the support troops that allow the combat arms troops to fight. Without the gun plumbers and supply boys the weapons would not function. Respect is a sign of true strength.
freemage22 1 year ago
@freemage22
and the gun plumbers and supply boys are always in the news having beers on canada day and timmies in kaf and everyone thinks afghanistan is a dog and pony show.
this documentary is strictly for the infantry showcasing our struggles and where we operate because for us there is no timmies. or at least there wasn't on my tour. there's no disrespect, it's simply a tribute to the infantry. if i was a support trade maybe i would do a tribute to them, but i'm not.

I only want to say one thing to the wise producer who came up with the title "Fighting ghosts". Ghosts do not hide in bushes 500 metres away from the intended target. COWARDS DO.
fanClassicRock 1 year ago
@fanClassicRock "ghost" seems like a title given to maybe a SEAL or Delta something to that extent but one hiding in a bush 500m away is a sniper, and he is by no means a coward. there is absolutely NOTHING cowardly about being behind enemy lines where exposure is a reality, and there is less than nothing cowardly in taking a mans life it takes a very brave and collected person to kill. regular soldiers may even less brave because there andrenaline is doing the killing (thats a metaphor)
21Assasin 1 year ago
@21Assasin sorry i take that back i hadn't watched the video by ghosts they're refering to the haji's 500m aways spraying AKs randomly just barely hitting the broad side of a barn. i agree an ill planned sneak attack 500m away is cowardly. there is still nothing cowardly about killing though
21Assasin 1 year ago
@21Assasin ok asssasin, that is exactly how it is. they are calling them ghosts because they never see who are firing they stay away from the soldiers like they have plague, they dont engage from close unless they have overwhelming numbers like they did to attack some far flung posts in Afghanistan some time back.
fanClassicRock 1 year ago
@fanClassicRock yeah i got that after watching the video. i'd thought i saw a guy with a sniper in the preview pic.

SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
Ok SugarTom.....you keep going on your "for real" training exercises while WE go out and fight the battles.
FUNKER530 1 year ago 14
@funker530 Countries like New Zealand, Japan, China, India, Germany and Russia are not interested in fighting wars. Why? Because we know what defeat is. Until you know defeat, you will not have tasted war. Canadian, British and American war history is all around D-Day and the thrust to Germany. It is about victory. You people do not know defeat.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger Your wrong, In WW1, the allies lost about 90% of the time in everybattle, mostly because our weapons were wrong and germany got hold of mondern warfare first. Until 1917 when the americans declared war on germany we started wining. I think we know what loosing feels like.
killboy11 1 year ago
@killboy11 You ae from Canada. Canadians know only of Vimy Ridge, a huge Victory for Canada. You Canadians are lucky. We New Zealanders did face defeat. Why? Because we did not have the superb generals that the US did.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger Dont forget Pashenndaele, what no allied country couldnt conquer we did. We had British officers back in WW1, our pupulation was 7.5m, and we still had around 700 000 soldiers deployed in europe.
killboy11 1 year ago
@killboy11 OK. 700,000 soldiers is a hell of a lot of men for a small country. I will read more about WW1 and Canada's efforts. You always get the impression here that Canada cherry picked battles like the US did - ones where victory was assured. I always connect the Battle of Paschendale with the French. I also think of WW1 as a mainly between the French and Germans also.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger Well canada wasnt supose to be in WW1 but.. when germany and their general Shleiffen had the plan to cut around to get in to france(from belgium) witch begium signed a peace with Britain over 100 years ago , so automatically they were declared war against germany, witch lead to Canada declaring war automatically agaisnt Germany as well since Canada was being controled by Britain
killboy11 1 year ago
@killboy11 Hi. As a young man of 29, I am very impressed with your insight and knowledge. The whole of WW1 was a mess, and we are paying for it even now. Someone needs to break this cycle of wars and the treaties that cause them. 9/11 was bad, but to my mind it should have been sorted out as an international police action. I'm sure that all connected would have been caught years ago. Now we have some complicated war, and who knows where it is going?
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger That you, ye i do to beleive that it should have been solved in a international matter. This was is costing even more lives, wasnt the people in the towers enouf?
killboy11 1 year ago
@killboy11 There were around 2000 people killed in the towers. This was partially due to the planes, and also because of the very poor evacuation procedures. The figure should have been much lower. The second tower to collapse should have been evacuated completely. Even in the first tower, people were told to stay there. In answer to your question. No. It was not a reason to start a series of major military attacks whoich could escalate into world war. No way.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger I agree. All the Al-queda and Taliban warriors could start grouping and to tell the people of South asia to go agaisnt the Americans and Canadians who are deployed there. To come to my point, theres a high chance that this could escalate into a war world.
killboy11 1 year ago
@killboy11 Armed conflict on an international scale is danger. World war - it start out locally and rapidly spread. Look at WW2. It was really a merging of all whole lot of wars, which all intensified. There was the Chinese Japanese war, the French German war, the Russian Finnish war, the internal bickering in Yugoslavia and the Italian adventure into Africa. A particalarly bad side effect was the Holocaust. Conflicts in a region often break out into revenge cycles, sucking others in.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger In WW1, the conflic started very diffrent compared to WW2. It started it out with the assasination at Sarajevo, and the Hungarian declaring war on the serbes, and is then when the alliances came in to play. Russia declaring war over Hungarians, Germany declaring war on russia and france, then Britain delcaring war on Germany witch lead to many countries at war in europe. Very little went neutral.
killboy11 1 year ago
@killboy11 That is true. You have to look at the situation now. There are still alliances. The US has a coalition, but many there are not really friends. The US also thinks its enemies are Isolated. Their enemies remain Germany, China, Japan and Russia. All have obvious unfinished business with the US. There is still the idealogical gap between Capitalism and Communism.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger this is a very late reply too your last comment, but Japan and Germany are at peace with the US, they have signed with NATO so the only way the could realy get revenge is by getting out of NATO first.

You would have 200,000 soliders max. haleymadimckenzie 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger

420Leprikon 1 year ago
@420Leprikon I guess so. We New Zealanders are very like the Russians, who are closest to you guys. We don't like war. The Russians must be terrified of having a large warlike people next door to them.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger If you lived next to the USA who have tried 4 times to invade canadian soil (Certaine individual's) , wouldnt you have some top notch soldiers? And what about russia? I dont care who you are..... Dont chalenge our freedom and you wont have anything to fear from canada. "For a people who are free , and wish to remain so , a well-organized and armed militia is there best security" - Thomas Jefferson. Smart man eh? There will always be evil and tyrrany our job is to abollish it.
420Leprikon 1 year ago
@420Leprikon O well. I guess you are lucky to have such top notch soldiers. Be honest though. Having a great army is about projecting your will on others. Why otherwise is the mighty Canadian army in Afghanistan. Is it because you want to control their northern neighbours and your old enemy.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger Yes thats exactley why canada has a HUGE army LOL!!!!! 200,000 forces personel in total dude , that aint alot. And yes we are in afghanistan but not by the peoples wishes you see our primeminister has ABSOLUTE and TOTAL controll over our forces , not the general public. And i have never heard of canada just invading a country for no reason, and oil? we have more then afghanistan , iraq , and saudi arabia.Lumber? nope we have tons of that to. water? nope.
420Leprikon 1 year ago
@420Leprikon Than you have just stated that this war is a just war. If Canada gets involved than you can be sure its that important. Canada does not go to war for frivolus reasons. Peoples wishes?? Most Canadians are more interested in eating hot dogas and watching the hockey game, Besides since when do you fight a war bassed on polling the ignorant?
MegaWolfgang 1 year ago
@MegaWolfgang Um ya as important as George H.W. Bush saying they will hunt binladen down then a week later says we dont care about him. You see the REAL terrorists have almost complete controll of the USA and what do you think the NAU and SPP do for canada and mexico? anybody? Loss of indavidual rights and freedoms , loss of our nation as a whole , and a military dictatorship. Our charter of rights and freedoms clearly states that we are to abolish any governance that takes them away from us.

Fun fact : the swiss have more guns per person than canada and the USA combined! and there a pretty peacful nation no?

420Leprikon 1 year ago
@420Leprikon O well.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger im not saying your a pussie and no reasonable freethinking individual in the world likes war. Im simpley saying that laying down your arms is a sure means for tyrrany to prevaile. You dont wish to own firearms and thats cool but dont take my freedom away to own one legally and responsibly. I made a coment on your remark about the training of our forces. You made an observation and i replied with facts. Even though the swiss dont like war they understand it is inevitable.
420Leprikon 1 year ago

MegaWolfgang 1 year ago
@MegaWolfgang No...im pretty sure an angry lil texan planned all that bud. poll's show that 80% of americans know it was the gov. not a group that the CIA created in the 80's to fight russian's in afghanistan. I am with every canadian who wants the real terrorists to be tried and found guilty but how do you trie a nations gov for war crimes , acts of terror , and inciting fear? I know those towers didnt collapse on themselves. I believe the firefighters&cops when they say they heard expolsions.

@420Leprikon Poll"s of the ignorant are irrelevant. And the opinons of fly in the sky conspiracy nuts are also irrelevant.

@MegaWolfgang isnt this sugartomappleroger guy a loon. he was arguing with me a while back saying asutralia and NZ are better because they "lost major battles in war times and canada never has" hes fucking out of his mind overall. his reasoning is so flawed.
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@walkertexasranger33 I never said that Australia and NZ was better. I said that they understood what it is like to lose in a war. Canada is lucky, as you managed to win all your battles. I am saying that you have a liking for war that we in New Zealand don't. That dislike can only come from losing, The Japanese, Germans and Russians understand that. Canadians and English have still to learn.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger im sorry to say but i really dont think you understand what happened in the last 100 years. New Zealand and Australia have never lost a war but they have lost battles and suffered many casualties just as Canada and Great Britain. Dieppe is the best example that would hopefully open your eyes to this bigotry. 2000 captured, 2000 retreated, 1000 dead, it involved rougly 5100 Canadian, American rangers, and British regulars.
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger it was colossal failure because of the fact that it did not turn into a surprise attack as it was intended and there were far more germans than expected in the area. but it helped set the stage for the future Italian campaign and D-Day. I really dont need to go far too much into detail because you can look it up yourself. but that is just one example.
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger Another thing i dont think you understand is that from the Korean War to the Afghani war in 2002 Canada had been actively and still is actively involved in peace keeping world wide. Canada has dismantled its nuclear arms a while back and has denied on a few occasions to have a missle defence grid implimented by the USA in the north. you labeling Canada as a "war like" country is completely ignorant. there are only 60-000 regulars and 30-000 reserves.
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger Russia had participated in a global arms race with the United States for over 50 years which included the backing of many militants in different wars to counter the others efforts. Japan was bombed into submission and has been under the military influence of the USA as an ally since the end of WW2. the same for germany, it was split in half by the 2 cold war patrons and has only been reunited for 20 years.
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger NZ, Australia, Germany, Japan have all contributed to the humanitarian efforts in iraq or afghanistan or both in the past decade. much of what you say seems to be based off of someones false information you learned when you were a child and it never seemed to phase you that any of it was wrong. im guessing your father gave you your opinions as you use his lose against italy as an example as to how NZ has lost major battles. regardless you need to read more instead of filling

walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger and nobody participates in a war without losing something " I said that they understood what it is like to lose in a war. Canada is lucky, as you managed to win all your battles" i seriously suggest you read up on 20th century conflicts to give yourself a more well-rounded view of things. Canada only one its battles through tremendous spirit, drive and sacrifice as anyone else.
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@walkertexasranger33 What I am trying to say is that soldiers never get over the shame of losing in battle. The Veterans Day Parades are for the victors. The losers do not attend out of shame. I know that very well. My father hated war all his life. I am not saying that Canadians are "war like", but it seems some are. In England, they certainly are. They said "the lads are up for it and want to get at the enemy". I applaud that fighting spirit, but it only comes from victorious nations.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger NZ and AUS couldve lost its battles due to many factors, cut off supply lines, not enough men, overwhelmed by the enemy through tactics, regardless thats irrelevant when comparing nations.
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@walkertexasranger33 Well. I just know from my relatives what happened. My father was in the Battle of Maleme. I guess you will not have heard of that. They got beaten by a small force of Germans who landed by parachute.
My dad's cousin was in te Battle of Meredet, which the Canadians were in. In this case they were in the parachutes. You have a completely different view if you win or lose.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger I dont have a completely different view if I win or lose solely, everyone does. and its unfortunate they lost and yes i do agree troop morale is one of the biggest factors in fighting a war if you are expecting to win. but to say canada is a warlike country in the present clearly doesnt represent canada now if you look at how the majority of people are against wars in the middle east. i myself am joining the reserves though.
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@walkertexasranger33 I think that it is important for a country to pick its battles do that you win every time. My dad's unit was the 2nd New Zealand Division. No one has heard of it, as they fought mainly in losing battles and they were moving backwards. It is actually harder to fight moving backwards, my father said.
My father's cousin was in the 82nd United States Division. It was quite well known, as it moved forward and won all its battles. The heroes are the winners only.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger humans are warlike . and you said many times canada is warlike. i think you need to choose your words wisely and you keep stating the obvious by saying pretty much only the victors write the history books. its not that nobody knows about those battles in the medeteranian becuase NZ and otehr common wealth fought in them its because they were fought in the medeteranian outside of the european theatre which most people dotn know much about
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger better yet not many people remember or even know of what NZ or AU did in the world wars and that is out of ignorance but that is also because it is kind of irrelevant in modern times if you dont live in that region of the world. just like most americans and British dont know what canada did.
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@walkertexasranger33 Here is a clip about the Battle of Maleme. The "English" mentioned in the documentary is of course the defeated New Zealand troops. Canada has never had a disgrace like this.
The documentary is from the viewpoint of the Europeans (victors).

@SugarTomAppleRoger buddy i dont understand the german language. yes Canada lost over 1100 men of poorly trained young canadians in dec 1941 along with british honkong and indian troops out numbered nearly 4 to 1... aug 1942 dieppe raid fails to a much smaller force even though the royal navy and air force were there in support the field troops still were held back because of poor planning. i dont even know why i have to bother telling you this because for an old man
walkertexasranger33 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger you seem to care more about whos dick is smaller then about having some respect/dignity and maturity. Canada without much in the european theatre outside of the atlantic warfare at the start of the war because of the devastation ww1 had caused on the public, they didnt want to repeat it.. regardless you should stop trolling these videos.
