I agree. I've been following the story on the news and it's a pretty cool story. Don't agree with what the guy did to get himself into trouble, but at least he's very creative in trying to get out of it. he should have never contacted ATC. Set the plane on auto at 5,000 rather than 2,000 ft, let it hit the ocean and he'd be fine and no one would know any different. they'd have a funueral for him and he'd be free and clear. Hope it turns out ok and he's not dead.

I think it is pretty apparent that he meant for the plane to continue out over the ocean and crash in the gulf. It is not unusual for an autopilot to shut itself off. He'd been smarter to have made no call whatsoever to ATC and avoid the jets scrambling. For such a smart guy, he was pretty dumb. "Canoe accident?" at 2:30 AM? Please ...

Ya know whats weird? I currently live in Milton Florida, where his plane crashed. I was born here but for the past 10 years, (up to a year ago), i was living in Naperville Illinois. The guy gave a fake name when he checked into a hotel and said he was from Bolingbrook, Illinois, which is only about 5 minutes away from Naperville.
