im gay, but i would never say to straight guys "don't use that language. it offends me." it's a free world (well... some of it is free) and if calling sum1 gay or whatever in a group of straights guys is wot they want to do then that's up to them. yes it is a negative thing and it's used as a "ur worth less than us" jibe, but 3dom of speech is pretty brilliant even if it does offend at times. i love straight guys and i think the world wud be shit without them like
@sitdownstandup91 Clearly never heard of a leather bear. Gay men can be just as (or more) masculine than any given straight man. The flamers ruin the reputation for the rest of us. T.T
I don't get it either... people say it's not a big deal like wedgies, but everyone has the same general perception of how funny a wedgie is. And everyone gets tired of it within the same time frame. "dude your gay" "thats gay" "my cereals gay" that shit gets old, yet i have relatively normal friends who find unusual satisfaction in it.
I'm gay and I'm gonna be honest, I call people gay and i call people straight, whether they actually are the label i place on them or not. I find humor in it because i know its not important. If i call a straight man gay, i find it funny that they get so flustered about it. If i call a gay man straight, we both laugh and move on. I think that you're reading into it a little too much. It's not a very big issue.
Im gay and I honestly have to say this is guy sounds fucking retarded. Straight guys make the joke about calling each other gay is something I don't understand, but why care? If everyone was like you and hyper-sensitive towards others, the world would be such a careful and boring place.
Also the whole "I get the slap-stick humour" thing you said sounds very...self affirmative. I can honestly say if I went to America and thats all I heard I think I would just die.
I use that phrase.. 'that's gay' but I think now it doesn't really mean the same thing. I'm gay and it doesn't bother me, why would it, I'm comfortable with my sexuality and proud and happy, I might try to dial that phrase down if people don't like it. People should be able to express their sexuality, whatever it is, who is anyone else to judge?.....
@mrmakeyoumad it's funny that you hate gay people that much but you have watched this vid....? And also not all gay guys are camp or obviously gay, I'm gay and not 1 person who knows I'm gay guessed I was. And yes, in your reply I expect all the gaybashing you can throw at me but honestly do you think the people on here care about the opinion of 1 lonely 'straight' guy sittin at his pc telling us it's wrong? Why hate it when it doesn't involve you?
im bisexual so i kno wat it feels to be picked on about being gay/straight even tho im a girl lol,i get offended by questions and rude comments on the subject and im not the happiest of all bis, when someone calls me a lesbian i get mad, even tho ive dated a girl b4,this subject confuses me a bit cause ive never called anyone gay as an insult,i dnt get the humor at all,i think of everyone as equal in every way, since we r all one race and that is humanity on this world
Maybe they do it because they have a weak masculinity and need to convince others by acting macho. Maybe because this is a way to feel strong because being heterosexual is being on the side of the majority. Or they don't have self confidence in their orientation so they try to convinces themselves and others by using the ward gay in a pejorative way. Maybe they are brainwashed by parents, friends, relatives so they feel right by being of the same opinion as they are. It may be a bas habit too.
Even my nieces and nephews use it often knowing their uncle is gay. Do I get offended? Yea, of course..but I know they don't mean to direct at me, but more like it's the cool thing to say among their friends. If I made an issue out of it, I know I might also estrange them to me, especially since I'm well liked and popular with them. Not sure how to handle it and hoping they grow out of it.
People only say that because they're insecure about their sexuality. Either that or they're too stupid to think of a better insult. Or someone actually does appear to be gay (if they talk with a feminine voice, or something). Or if they're really happy and the person talking is an old British person.
-
But mostly, I think it's similar to gay marriage. If someone's straight and they know it, they don't use "gay" as an insult, just like straight people don't care whether or not gays get married.
If someone is using the term "gay" as a joke or insult towards another person, place or thing, then I believe that person is insecure with their own sexuality. Just my theory that I applied from the lesson I learned in my Logics course in college. BTW, I got an 'A' in that course!
Well they do say that people who joke about being or acting gay must be gay..... Or its just the new way of saying " Hey you're such a pussy"........ "You dick"..............straight men are always putting down each others masculinity its about who's more macho. But when you come right down to it we're all gay in some shape or form....
itisntfunny it isnt even offensive its just plain old stupid, people are running out of shit to say so they now theyre atrting on themost popular subject wich is us gays. so now they want in on it, but that just makes them all so stupid, cause i culd say shit like omg that is so blonde, its just something some idiots do 2 try to ignore the fact that we're everywhere. and that just dumbs them down while bringing us up because they want to make everything about us gays 2, a good plan. :)
Why? Because straight guys fear anything feminine or gay. It is their way of keeping others masculinity in check. What makes me more curious is their "gay play"- When they slap each others asses, "check" their friends, try for "bag tags" etc.
straight men are often afraid of being less than a real "man"--so calling a man gay is like calling him a woman. and no real man wants to be a woman. men rule! yet at the same time the non-macho side in every man wants to act out. playing with gay stuff--words and acts--is a way for men to confront that less-than-male side they both hate and desire. homophobia and homoeroticism are two sides of the same coin.
Thanks dude. My straight friends at college don't use negative epitaphs , but most are intelligent. One more thing I just learned in my Advance Biology class (Human Sexuality) this semester was that homosexuality maintains the balance of world population.
Thanks for having my back! Keep on doing. I'll keep on watching.
As a gay man, when straight guys do it, I believe it is just a way of putting down their friends. There is no humor, but perhaps that is the only way the guy can respond towards his friends or another individual.
? why did someone downthubm wgaine? Don't worry fag i got your back in a nonhomo way.. I upthumbed ya.. lol.. But seriously this fag is totally right! it's like calling someone a dumbass.. it's funny.. ^_^ it's an insult.
I agree with manuel1462's comment. I don't believe that it is necessarily meant to be playful or a joke rather an insult to the others' masculinity. Gay men are seen by some/many heterosexual men as less manly (closer to women in feelings) than many heterosexual men. So, perhaps when he says, "man, that's so gay", he is telling his friend to be more masculine. IMO, there are different forms of masculinity, but I also believe that there is a social and cultural element to masculinity as well.
@stefmano88 You're wrong, it's is belittling gay people. It is saying that gay is negative and something they should not want to be. I've been silent like your gay friends are for too many years. Everytime someone uses these terms, and a gay person hears it, it hurts, whether they say so or not. Try using the term black instead and see what happens!
actually its fun because it bugs you just as much as FAGGOTS BUG ME!!!! so go and kill yourself faggots make the world a better smelling place shit dicks mmwwaaa hahaha, by the way did you know that faggots were first treated with mental issues!! keep given them medication hopefully they will all go away!!! oh and if you were born gay you would have been born with an asshole above your penis FFFFFF FFFFF FFFFF FAGGOTS!!!!
i think its cos most young str8 guys try so hard to fit in and act 'normal' and being a young openly gay guy goes agains that so much that its partly fear or being branded with that same 'freak' label and that they have to distance themselves from gayness all the time, young str8 guys who r more self confident in their masculinity tend to be a lot less like that
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
simple. homosexuality is not biologically correct, and calling someone gay or "homo" is belittling them. When a a straight(normal) man is called one of these names, its hilarious depending on the situation. These men that consider themselves gay take themselves far to seriously (as Joker would ask, why so serious?) and are offended by these terms.
When someone takes legitimate offense to these terms, that is just messed up. These "men" are defying the natural order, their own genetics.
It has been a long-standing tradition among straight males to belittle and humiliate each other by attacking the masculinity of the victim and calling him effeminate. Straights automatically associate male effeminacy with homosexuality and especially playing the passive or female role. Straight Latino males particularly become very angry when a man shows any lust for them because in their minds, they are being reduced to what they may believe is an inferior female role.
I think because being Gay goes against the laws of Nature, and possibly because people who are weak, have been abused by a Male, carn't attract a female, have low self esteem normally go gay.
imnotababy. Many animals have gay couples among them (lions, dolphins, dogs to name a few). Also, the human race and all animal species always reproduces too fast. We over grow our areas killing ourselves off. So, when animals are gay, they are dropping the birth rate. So u could say that we (gay's) are a saftey (spelling) measure to keep u from killing your selves.
Also, if you are a baby that means you are weak? why aren't u gay? ^^
im gay and ive had more sex from women than most straight men. i was never abused by a male when i was younger. and being gay isnt going against the laws of nature, humans arnt the only creature that have homosexuality in them as dannyboi636 said this is completely true.
hahaa,, I think that it's sometime an avenue for them to explore the word. Also as a feeler word, you can really tell alot about someone by how offended they get by being called gay. Honestly I don't think anyone feels that there being belittled anymore by the word, Gay is in...
Straight guys who do that are immature. Simple as that. They're the same guys who think the word "poop" or "fart" is funny. Obviously their sense of humor hasn't progressed past kindergarten.
They're also mostly likely in denial of their own gay tendencies but that's my humble opinion. :P
your humble opinion is rather closed minded. Why must all straight guys that say this be immature ? can they not have another reason ? it is just natural for me to use it in place of " bad." similar to how some people say "cool" rather than "awesome". something that is awesome may not be literally "cool." so why would people say that? it just feels natural for me to say cool and gay. I also do a short laugh after saying it. it makes me smile. some things just connect and u help but laugh
but that is the problem. you (not just you) are assotiating (spelling) "Gays" with something bad. Imagine if straight people were the minority and the word "straight" was used as an insult. Straight men would be angry too. Also it teaches children (poeple with experience to be gained) that the word "gay" means "bad" because they don't understand what is actually happening. Saying "gay" is just a habit. it can be broken, just like picking your nose^^
u must have misunderstood my post if you think that i am not one of those children(the impressionable ones you spoke of). Straight can mean plenty of other things. i dont give a fuk if gays used it, it wouldnt bother me. i dont put myself behind such boundries. we are all people. the words that describe us, in anyway, let people know who we are. Not to class us and say " Well, you can't say this cuz your not this(race, gender, orientation)...".We are all people. Its just a word. Get over it.
i don't know...... lol i'm gay and i say it all the time its just funny to say... O_o am i weird b/c i say it?!!!! i hope not. it never offended me when anyone said it gay of straight so.... yeah!!!
I don't ever mean to offend anyone, and being bisexual I'm probably the most offensive type because many straight and many gay people don't get my perspective... I always understood the "that's so gay" as "being so wrong that it can't make any sense at all" or "as useless as tits on a bull"
In other words, there is no point. Although I understand the reasoning, I see nothing wrong with being gay, being almost gay myself...
When straight people call each other gay they are only teasing...
guys just do it to just to pick on eachother. it has nothing against gay men it is just a straight guy thing. sorta like when blk people call eachother the "n" word.
pdm29615 if it is a "straight guy thing" it is totally different than black people using the "N" word amongst themselves. THEY can. And so can fellow gays use whatever words they want. Its different if a str8 guy is using this in a negative way. Str8 white guys don't get to call each other the "N" word either, eh?
@DarkChrist888 Um.. Yah cause that totally makes sense. Why are you so hateful? And umm. Gays been around for how long (So I guess that blows you're theory) Oh and if there were just straight, we would overpopulate!
@DarkChrist888 << Straight men are usless. By the way you can get women pregnant with out need for sex. so why do we need straight men..? Straight guys threw my eyes are nothing but usless perfectic creatures.. ( No Offence ) but its true..
You're awesome man. You're kinda hot as well. And yeah, if I had a nickel for every time I heard someone say something's gay, I'd be twice as rich as Bill Gates.
I guess it's because we straight people think of gay people as kind of strange or funny. I get along with gay people just fine, but I must admit I sometimes call things "gay" as a joke.
In my opinion the humor comes from the fact that you are calling someone something that they are not, and not from the thought that being gay is funny. Kinda like when I would joke with my black friends and say that they were more white than I was. Until you just said otherwise, I would have thought that some gay guys would have called their gay friends straight, as a joke.
Calling someone gay as an insult is pretty common, but it's also pretty stupid. I even made a video on that topic.
I would have thought, if you have thought about it, you'd know the answer its pretty obvious.
Most men don't like to be thought of as effeminate or that show signs of being homosexual. They want to be what society usually thinks of as being a man/manly.
When you call a guy a faggot or gay or whatever, its 'funny' because we know it will piss him off.
Btw, no I don't find it funny, just giving an explanation.
In the eyes of many men, one of the few things we have to attract the opposite sex is our virility. You don't really have to be good looking to be macho, and lets face it 99% of men are pretty damned ugly...
More to the point though, calling a straight man "gay" is a shot to that virility, because gay men are typically not perceived as very "manly" by straight guys. One would postulate that this is tied to primal urges to reproduce, so rationalizing or reasoning isn't going to happen.
well its is very different but callin a str8 guy gay really defends us cuz were not gay and ppl will make fun of us if they think we are and idk its like callin us a bitch kinda we just don't like it that simple
I hear people say that all the time. Either they say "That song is so gay" or "Stop being so gay" and "That show is so Gay!" I think they just use Gay instead of Lame
I think he's got it exactly right here. I don't think of it in a negative connotation. I find myself saying something is so gay on occaision, but I can catch myself usually now, if I'm paying attention for it. I try to say 'lame' instead of gay now.
Calling a striaght man gay is todays version of calling a man a pussy or a whimp because those are the most stereotypical thoughts of someone gay and those are the least cool things a straight man wants to be looked at as.
@StitchSteve626 so if we gays sometimes act or talk idiotic we're gonna strt saying straighty. those with no sense of fashion, st8e, those with no sense of hummor str8e, those who dont know how ot have fun, str8e. how bout we strt that up, so it kinda 50/50. it shuld go both ways, i just saw a video of two guys fighting over a beer, thats so atr8. a guy looking at a chicks rack, ugh, str8e. all agreed say str8e! c we can sound stupid 2, but without actaully being.
i've had problems with those lines for years now and it really is our own fault. i can remember (long time ago) when members of the gay community would dis each other and say "that's so gay girlfriend" and laugh like hell.
unfortunately, it caught on. it wasn't funny then and it's really not funny now especially cause it's looked upon as a putdown or derogatory comment.
Its funny you mention that.. I must hang out with a different crowd.. I dont remember anyone using that phrase that I know.. not when I was around anyway.. I will have to pay more attention now LOL
Humans(??) hsve forgotten the meaning of gay....Gay is homosexual and being gay is awesome(and no I'm not gay) and I'm sincere about this not sarcastic.
I don't hear that expression in the real world very much if at all. Television and youtube is about it. When I do hear it said it comes after a person has revealed a feeling or a unmet need. Men doing this in our culture is not popular which might explain why females crave intimacy and two out of every three marriages ends in divorce.
"That is so gay" is a much easier response to offer compared with empathy which requires a quality of vulnerability that is judged to be weakness. Is that gay?
I am getting that impression from a lot of people.. that its suppose to imply weakness.. and I am thinking that maybe the portrayal of gay men in popular culture shows them in that light.. so that might have something to do with it..
Thanks Airrick, great video as always. I don't get the humour in it either. The phrase that I hate the most is "that is so gay" as if being so gay is a negative quality. 5*
I think it started in a derogatory way by rednecks and military dudes who don't like gay people. Then it was adopted by people who are not homophobic in a more ironic way. Just like 'nigga'
I've been hearing straight guys say that to other straight guys for years...'gay' has several different meanings, saying something is gay can mean sick, gross, a person's a sissy or girlish...I choose it to mean 'just plain fabulous!'
But I do need an honest opinion about something, Airrick...seriously, does this cock in my mouth make ME look gay?!
Hey this is a great thought.. I mean I guess they find it demeaning I suppose to be classified as gay, as in they find something wrong with being gay because it would make them less of a man? I mean.. I know thats not true.. but maybe that the correlation?
Ya know what I don't get. Somehow, I am suppose to automatically respect someone, just because they are "Gay"! WTF? Show a straight man a little respect and stop calling him Honey/Baby/Sweetie and a like. I mean really - Get a Grip!!!
I don't think ppl should say stuff like that anyway. It's just the that the newer generations of people don't understand that the words themselves have a totally different meaning than how they are saying it. I'm guilty of calling stuff gay but I don't have problems with gay ppl. It's just something that's said I guess. My opinion anyway.
Well I dont hear you say it often.. I mean the times I have hung out with you.. I have even said in the past but I really still have no concept of what its suppose to mean LOL
Hmm. you know. I've never really had a second thought about it. It's a habit to me. I don't actually mean to imply that the person is gay it's just one of those random go with the crowd insults. To be honest I don't think a lotta ppl mean "gay" in a literal sense Either. They just say it to say it. It's like an insult or an attack on gay ppl that has long since lost it's origin. In a bad way that is. Same thing with ppl throwing around the N word all the time. PPL forget what was behind it.
It's pretty simple. It's quite effective when you want to get a rise out of somebody. Everybody strives to be seen as "normal", or sometimes as "wacky", "cool" or straight-up "fringe".
The moment you label somebody as something they aren't comfortable with, they will usually become hostile/huffy/etc. This is why people call people "gay". Straight men don't want that label, and actively seek to avoid it.
Being gay is still not accepted within the mainstream, hence its heavy use.
I get that.. like I said in a previous comment the shock value of it was big years ago for me.. I mean you just didnt expect to hear it.. now its not really shocking anymore and sort of flies out of peoples mouths as if its just normal everyday conversation.. or acceptable in normal everyday conversation.. I think its been used so much now its lost that shock value
Words mean nothing. That's why when someone says to me, "I give you my word", I look at them like they just told me they got a job as a taste tester at a sewage treatment plant.
If I told a buddy of mine his fly was down even though it wasn't, he wouldn't be upset; but if I said he was GAY even though he wasn't, he'd get pissed off.
Both statements are false, but he only reacted to the latter.
But, from what I've seen, most people that say, "That's SO gay!" are either girls or gay dudes anyway...
Cause most guys don't like to be called that. they get affended bad. so they do it as a pun in way to make fun of them as a joke. Some will go so far as to fight back. others will get mad. or frustrated.
gays don't call each other straight cause there open minded to everything in life.
dude this video was gay. just like the swimmers at the olympics. that is all we do. swim and dive. thats gay. anyways. am not being serious. lol. just kidding. would you liked to be called something you are not? no. that's where the joke lies.
I get that part.. but when its not expected I can see that as shockingly funny.. but once you have heard it a lot.. it loses the shock value for me.. and I have been hearing it now for like.. 8 years or more from people and by now its just not funny to me
The better question is, as a joke would that bother you if your straight friends called you gay? Would that make any sense to you? LOL.. I have seen several videos where people are pranking their straight friends and calling them gay etc..
"would that bother you if your straight friends called you gay?" I don't think it would bother me but then they know I am not gay... I am EZ going and not much get 2 me anyway...
Cool.. yea thats kinda where I got the thought from.. some of my straight friends were calling each other "gay" and "queer" and I was trying to figure out.. what the hell does that mean.. LOL thanks for the comment man
Yeah a lot of people i know use it as a term to insult people- not for joking means, (well sometimes the person saying it thinks it's funny) and mainly it's used out of spite to inflict someone with a title that, that person is not. It's basically the same as calling someone 'emo,' as if your someone that'll cut themselves every moment they can get and cry about everything. Even though the true meaning is something different entirely. It a fad that's taken a hold of a lot of kids vocabulary.
Well going on that thought.. I had several people call me "Spic" in some of my videos.. and they seem to think I am Mexican I guess because they say that as well.. and those words dont offend me because I have no reason to take offense to them.. since I am not Latino.. would that fall into the same category?
In my opinion it does. That would be like someone calling someone N word and the insulted is not black. The person throwing the insult probably don't like blacks and because of this they use already negative term and turn it into this double negative to both offend and suppress there hatred in the matter. A lot of people that I know, referring to people who use the word 'gay' as a bad term, don't like gays themselves. So because they don't like the idea they now have to pollute that ideal.
Two things, firstly they think gay people are an abberation of nature because of religious upbringing, and second because they just don't think before they open their mouths, so they are either prejudiced or uncaring. Personally, I think it should share the same connotation as the "n" word and disappear from public usage.
Thanks Ron. I kind of got the impression thats why some people say it.. do you think thats why everyone says it or do you think it slipped in to everyday language for another reason?
I think it also comes from a need to swear. I've had some very close friends call me a cocksucker and a motherfucker but just say it like it was a cool thing to do, like "Yo, faggot, what up?" My kid calls me dork and her girlfriends "puta" and I have to remind her that too much swearing suppresses your vocabulary. Our families and pop culture teaches us that it's OK to curse. It makes us sound tough and worldly and daring but unfortunately it doesn't make us sound intelligent, loving or wise.
Yea, I cant say I have never said it.. but I dont like saying things that I have no idea exactly what they mean.. or why you say it in the first place.. lol I do say some silly things.. but I laugh @ them because I know why they are funny
People say "that's so Gay" when they actually mean that's so lame or thats so retarded. But they say 'Stop being Gay' or 'Thats Gay' as if being gay is a bad/shameful thing due to religious beliefs.
Hey man.. I dont really have an issue with people saying it.. I am just curious to how it started and why its so funny.. I feel like its a universal joke that I am just not getting LOL thanks for watching!
By saying "gay", most do not mean homosexual, most mean "lame", "uncool", *sigh* "retarded".
None of those words are used literally when putting down a person or situation. I work with people with disabilities, but sometimes still call situations or actions "retarded", I don't mean that situation was mentally disabled, but meant it was unfun, unintelligent or some other negative connotation.
If a baseball player spanks another player in the ass - that's str8!
if any guy spanks another guy anywhere else - that's gay!
WTF? LOL

People only say that because they're insecure about their sexuality. Either that or they're too stupid to think of a better insult. Or someone actually does appear to be gay (if they talk with a feminine voice, or something). Or if they're really happy and the person talking is an old British person.

But mostly, I think it's similar to gay marriage. If someone's straight and they know it, they don't use "gay" as an insult, just like straight people don't care whether or not gays get married.
MaoiMeowi2 1 year ago
If someone is using the term "gay" as a joke or insult towards another person, place or thing, then I believe that person is insecure with their own sexuality. Just my theory that I applied from the lesson I learned in my Logics course in college. BTW, I got an 'A' in that course!

Well they do say that people who joke about being or acting gay must be gay..... Or its just the new way of saying " Hey you're such a pussy"........ "You dick"..............straight men are always putting down each others masculinity its about who's more macho. But when you come right down to it we're all gay in some shape or form....

Why? Because straight guys fear anything feminine or gay. It is their way of keeping others masculinity in check. What makes me more curious is their "gay play"- When they slap each others asses, "check" their friends, try for "bag tags" etc.

thank you thank you thank you for questioning this stupid way of using the word "gay".
pronkisass 2 years ago
straight men are often afraid of being less than a real "man"--so calling a man gay is like calling him a woman. and no real man wants to be a woman. men rule! yet at the same time the non-macho side in every man wants to act out. playing with gay stuff--words and acts--is a way for men to confront that less-than-male side they both hate and desire. homophobia and homoeroticism are two sides of the same coin.
zaynzaynzayn 2 years ago
Thanks dude. My straight friends at college don't use negative epitaphs , but most are intelligent. One more thing I just learned in my Advance Biology class (Human Sexuality) this semester was that homosexuality maintains the balance of world population.
Thanks for having my back! Keep on doing. I'll keep on watching.

Hey,
As a gay man, when straight guys do it, I believe it is just a way of putting down their friends. There is no humor, but perhaps that is the only way the guy can respond towards his friends or another individual.

cant1be1original 2 years ago

Try using the term black instead and see what happens!

simple. homosexuality is not biologically correct, and calling someone gay or "homo" is belittling them. When a a straight(normal) man is called one of these names, its hilarious depending on the situation. These men that consider themselves gay take themselves far to seriously (as Joker would ask, why so serious?) and are offended by these terms.
When someone takes legitimate offense to these terms, that is just messed up. These "men" are defying the natural order, their own genetics.
amaster300000 2 years ago
are heterosexual men who choose not to have children denying the "natural order"?
DmitriyAM 2 years ago
It has been a long-standing tradition among straight males to belittle and humiliate each other by attacking the masculinity of the victim and calling him effeminate. Straights automatically associate male effeminacy with homosexuality and especially playing the passive or female role. Straight Latino males particularly become very angry when a man shows any lust for them because in their minds, they are being reduced to what they may believe is an inferior female role.

I think because being Gay goes against the laws of Nature, and possibly because people who are weak, have been abused by a Male, carn't attract a female, have low self esteem normally go gay.
I'm not gay, but I am a Baby!
imnotababyfreshmeat2 2 years ago
Being gay does not go against the laws of nature
dannyboi636 2 years ago
im gay and ive had more sex from women than most straight men. i was never abused by a male when i was younger. and being gay isnt going against the laws of nature, humans arnt the only creature that have homosexuality in them as dannyboi636 said this is completely true.

Straight guys who do that are immature. Simple as that. They're the same guys who think the word "poop" or "fart" is funny. Obviously their sense of humor hasn't progressed past kindergarten.
They're also mostly likely in denial of their own gay tendencies but that's my humble opinion. :P
soapidelic 2 years ago 2
your humble opinion is rather closed minded. I also do a short laugh after saying it. it makes me smile. some things just connect and u help but laugh
skylerruin 2 years ago
but that is the problem. you (not just you) are assotiating (spelling) "Gays" with something bad. Imagine if straight people were the minority and the word "straight" was used as an insult. Straight men would be angry too. Also it teaches children (poeple with experience to be gained) that the word "gay" means "bad" because they don't understand what is actually happening. Saying "gay" is just a habit. it can be broken, just like picking your nose^^
dannyboi636 2 years ago 2
u must have misunderstood my post if you think that i am not one of those children(the impressionable ones you spoke of).

I guess it's because we straight people think of gay people as kind of strange or funny. I get along with gay people just fine, but I must admit I sometimes call things "gay" as a joke.
burtoncharlessmith 3 years ago
In my opinion the humor comes from the fact that you are calling someone something that they are not, and not from the thought that being gay is funny. Kinda like when I would joke with my black friends and say that they were more white than I was. Until you just said otherwise, I would have thought that some gay guys would have called their gay friends straight, as a joke.
Calling someone gay as an insult is pretty common, but it's also pretty stupid. I even made a video on that topic.
BeanMeister22 3 years ago
I would have thought, if you have thought about it, you'd know the answer its pretty obvious.
Most men don't like to be thought of as effeminate or that show signs of being homosexual. They want to be what society usually thinks of as being a man/manly.
When you call a guy a faggot or gay or whatever, its 'funny' because we know it will piss him off.
Btw, no I don't find it funny, just giving an explanation.
lwouldliketoknow 3 years ago
In the eyes of many men, one of the few things we have to attract the opposite sex is our virility. You don't really have to be good looking to be macho, and lets face it 99% of men are pretty damned ugly...
More to the point though, calling a straight man "gay" is a shot to that virility, because gay men are typically not perceived as very "manly" by straight guys. One would postulate that this is tied to primal urges to reproduce, so rationalizing or reasoning isn't going to happen.
embalmed 3 years ago
well its is very different but callin a str8 guy gay really defends us cuz were not gay and ppl will make fun of us if they think we are and idk its like callin us a bitch kinda we just don't like it that simple

Because people like Chris Crocker and gay stereotypes make it an insult to call someone gay. It's like calling someone a sissy.

downbelow492 3 years ago
I think he's got it exactly right here. I don't think of it in a negative connotation. I find myself saying something is so gay on occaision, but I can catch myself usually now, if I'm paying attention for it. I try to say 'lame' instead of gay now.
j0lthax 3 years ago
Calling a striaght man gay is todays version of calling a man a pussy or a whimp because those are the most stereotypical thoughts of someone gay and those are the least cool things a straight man wants to be looked at as.

NLPNVC 3 years ago
I am getting that impression from a lot of people.. that its suppose to imply weakness.. and I am thinking that maybe the portrayal of gay men in popular culture shows them in that light.. so that might have something to do with it..

The major reason for it is because it bothers them, and causing other people to feel unpleasant is hilarious.
Eddyman2 3 years ago

airricksreloaded 3 years ago
Hello,
It's pretty simple.
Peace.

Because society views being gay as inferior to those who are straight.
I get why people are offended, it's discriminating towards the LGBT community. In saying that the definition of the word changed throughout history.

People say "that's so Gay" when they actually mean that's so lame or thats so retarded. But they say 'Stop being Gay' or 'Thats Gay' as if being gay is a bad/shameful thing due to religious beliefs.

I never say, "that's gay" or "you're gay." I say "that's bullshit" or "you're a prick." I say what I mean, not what I think I should say.
