Final crisis 1-6 was good stuff , but number 7 is the greatest shit have ever read .That is impudence , unworthy and as I think it was written under drugs . Final Crisis 7 destroys the whole rest of the Story , Iam totally pissed off !!!!!!!!
I suspect its more than the non-linear style of story telling of FC that has put pple off. You know what i think? Pple are simply mentally and emotinally Anesthetized. Does that I mean i'm any better. NO. I just call it how i see it.
I call it how i see it. I loved all of FC from # 1 to 7. To me, every issue conveyed something so true, raw and powerful. Nothing about it was in anyway incoherent. I connected to series more on a very emotional level for everything I saw. And I call it how i see it.
DC books such as JSA, Superman, Action Comics, Simon Dark, etc. have existing self contained narratives that are still on-going since before Final Crisis. I think anyone with an imagination could easily place FC in a suitable period that would not conflict with these pre-FC on-going self-contained narratives.
I think the Claim that the events in Final Crisis do not manifest in the present run of DC books is wrong. What about the Flash, Batman and Green Lantern Titles that are and have been directly tied to FC??
The intention to alter and dominate Creation in his (Darkseid) image or order was the initial plan but it eventually led to nihilism. Darkseid was dying since Seven Soldiers. He was simply going to be shut out of Creation as a disembodied spirit. That was the doom he knew, as a god, would befall him. He would forever be trapped in an eternal void of Darkness as punishment. Hence, he (Darkseid) chose nihilism and to bring all of Creation down the abyss with him.
Morrison has always likened the JLA to the Greek/Roman pantheon of the gods, and has made numerous references to other mythological/religious stories/scriptures about 'end of times' events involving god-like beings and wanting to draw that into FC. It was an ambitious series at the very least. Maybe oce its been collected in trade format and we've all had a chance to step back from the hype that surrounded the book, we'll appreciate it for what it was.
Superheroes in the DC U have finally acheived noticeable mythological status with Final Crisis. The Marvel U has gone nowhere near that. Final Crisis is entirely about saving and preserving the constant true mode of reality/Creation from the fallen nature of Darkseid and Mandrakk.
Final Crisis failed to me but was still much better than SI. At least we got good stuff out of Final Crisis like Legion of 3 Worlds and Batman RIP. I think it's DC's fault though, for putting all their support into Blackest Night and none into Final Crisis.
Well, LO3W has yet to conclude and Batman RIP was one of the most anti-climactic mini-series of all time (c'mon, a series touting the 'death' of Batman' only to have him show up the very next month in another book?). At least BN is coming out on time. And so did SI, which already puts it above FC IMO.
i had some books out and saw the last 3 issues of FC and it hit me i had no idea what happened in in the first 3 issues thats how long it took to get to where ever it ended
Ok, gonna go Devils Advocate on this one..... why should an event set up a new status quo?
Why shouldn't a story just end? Why does every event have to lead to another event....and another event...like House of M, Civil War, Secret Invasion, Dark Reign...when does it come to a conclusion?
I think thats something Morrison was trying to get at, the power of stories and myths. FC was WAY more ambitious than Secret Invasion, Morrison just wasn't able to pull it off. A brave failure imo.
Sigh. Felt bad for Johnnyhorror and decided to join him on his deserted island, locus? LOL.
Seriously, you make a good point, and I would agree with you wholeheartedly were it not for the fact that DC created not one but TWO 52 week 'maxi-series' to tie in to FC (52 and Countdown) and have been touting in DC Nation each week how the end of FC would be the 'end of the DCU as we know it.'
Haha, no I just don't think morrison is as bad as some make out, he ain't no Mark Millar :P
I ignored DC from Identity Crisis thru to Death of the New Gods. Again I blame Didio and DC editorial for screwing up Final Crisis before it even started by doing Countdown and Death of the new gods.
Also Morrison tried to stretch himself but reached farther than his talent would allow. Bendis on the other hand played it very safe, SI is phenomenally simple as a series.
I agree that if the series had been longer it could have been better. It could have helped with some of the buildup that they were talking about that was just never resolved or explained.
I liked it ok overall. I really liked Rucka's Revelations, and G.Johns Legion & Rogues Revenge. So there were some good things to come out of Final Crisis.
I agree. There was lots of interesting stuff that came out of Final Crisis. Rogues Revenge, Revelations, Legion of Three Worlds is fantastic! And I loved Superman Beyond 3-D because it was just such a head trip!
I'm sure that Beyond 3-D was gonna be part of the Final Crisis series but editorial nixed that so they could have another book for us to buy.
NRAMA: You mentioned that there was one scene that you included at DC's request at the end - was that the scene showing that essentially, everyone was okay, with Lois narrating...or later...in the cave?
GM: The scene was with Batman. Id made it a little more ambiguous but DC editorial didnt want readers to think Batman might actually be dead for more than a fortnight, so I revised the last page to be somewhat on the nose, as they say in Hollywood.
Thats the epilogue though and not the actual ending. Its like in Lord of the Rings, the ring being thrown in the volcano is the actual ending but then theres a heap of epilogues where everyone says goodbye to everyone else.
The ending of FC where Supermans sings the notes reminded me of chapter 1 of the "6 Voyages of Lone Sloane" by Phillipe Druillet where Sloane does that and even the scene looks similar....
What would be cooler and crazier than Grant Morrison writing "The New Gods"! :)
Anyway, hopefully when they wrap up Final Crisis: Legion Of Three Worlds, it will tie into Final Crisis, because Geoff Johns wouldn't leave us hanging.

Grant has said multiple times that the ending in Crisis was the one he intended.

You're gonna have to convince Jose of that cuz he won't believe it, despite that he said it in his Newsarama interview.

I actually agree with Jose that the ending feels changed, but Morrison claims it's not so.

DC should retake Jeph Lobe back! I've heard that he done really well there. It will do only good for DC and Marvel!
