@nalrashido shit sorry I thought you were talking about the creature killing you. To kill it you must Burn it so much that there are no living cells inside of it. Sorry for the confusion.
There is a strong sexual theme to the face splitter scene. A face splitter would in normal circumstances be a reference to a very large penis inserted into a small mouth. I'm looking forward to seeing the film, but fuck me there are some serious nerds on this planet. Enjoy it for what it is a good ride, Carpenter did a good job on the original, but generally an overated director, it would not surprise me if the quality of directing is better than the original and that includes the acting.
Why the hell do ppl assume that this is a remake?? The ending of the film clearly shows the guy chasing after the damn dog and that sets up the beginning of John Carpenters film.
This movie was good. The griggs scene could have been done better way too much CGI. The thing creature could not have been smart because it attacked humans in a flying helicopter and it should have known it would of crashed and burned. So, how the heck did it fly that spaceship in the first place?
@valdi9165 thing used the memories of whatever alien it absorbed to fly it, although, it did crash it, and the helicopter was about to land again, and when it relized it, thats when it attacked, so it might have some intellegence, just no common sence probibly
oh maan...so many complaints...SO MANY, meh...i guess in the future ill go enjoy other great remakes while you ppl complain about other small, minor aspects...hehehe
@Simpleman925 oh yah sorry bout that...i am aware, but i heard so many people saying that its a remake that i guess the word was sorta stuck in my head...thank you for the correction b t w
@empressriona it couldn't pretend to be the people it assimilated becuse what is the point of disguising yourself when people already know what your disguise is.
@snakesrule5 Right, so it completely disregard the fact that someone is still armed with a flamethrower. Instead of hiding and finding the best opportunity to jump them one at a time, it decides to run around like a headless chicken...
I love how a movie that was meant for CGI (and i mean Good-ass special effects) basically lack-lustered in the final cut. I mean the 1982 version had audiences disgusted but intrigued at the same time. With this version its the simple "Oh it's the monster, weird". The casting could have been a bit better as well. Wish the director was more of a visionary type director instead of the "sticking to the script/novel/original" type deal.
I hate all the people that go like "THEOTHERNEWASBETTER, THISISSHIT!" I mean come on, this is a decent movie on its own, it does the other thing justice in being disturbing, although the cgi does give it a sense of falseness, I would stop dead in my tracks whenever I got gasses (because of the noise it makes) both movies were awesome, although, yes, there are some discrepancies but think of it this way:
the thing learned that hiding is better than going all-out, that's why this one seems dumer
I love this scene!!! It is BAD-ASS!!! I just wish people would stop bitching about this or that! Who cares? If you don't like it, don't watch it! You will always have the original. It is not going anywhere. Some people like the prequel and some don't. I happen to love them both! And as for the CGI, the original had stop motion animation which at the time, I hated. But please, just get over it!
The original was 1 face splitting...not 2 heads. Plus it was a totally different body and the face was in a different position. How could they forget that? It's like they made the prequal without knowing the first remake from Carpenter.
This is why the original was scarier, this remake uses the actual creature as the source of fear, as in fear of getting chased and killed by it, while the original used the fear of being infected and turning into it as the source.
@Norocmorth if they did the same source they would already know wut was gonna be about...there has to be two different sources to make it more interesting and these r different people with different personalities...so there has to be a different experience :).....im a chick and i wish i had these as action figures and statues in my room....i loved it when they got on the ship XD
@gaaragirl93 Yea but when you watched the 1982 version you didn't know who was infected, that's where the theme of paranoia arose and that's what kept the viewer on the edge of their seat. Carpenter's version makes you fear the unknown.
@Norocmorth That's right, you didn't know who to trust or who would turn against you. The Thing was unseen and stealthy and you weren't sure if it was a sentient, aware being or just a cunning but dumb predator. Here it's just a stupid animal.
@georgekostaras Until it got smarter though later on...at the ending to this prequel, disguised as Sanders, it drove a Snowcat! It was learning...that's why after the movie, disguised as one of the dead dogs, it pretended and acted like a dog to gain the trust of the humans and protect it from the only survivor who knew what it really was... then as you all already know, later on in the 1982 movie, it got smart enough to trick the humans and make each other distrust each other!
@georgekostaras Yeah, it really does...in fact, now that I think about, maybe this prequel wasn't at all too bad...it makes sense to why it was at first acting like an animal, then started getting smarter as it absorbs the humans, then gotten even more smarter in the 1982 one, and in the sequel, the video game version, even worse!
Now that I think of it, it make a whole lot of sense if you can understand the whole story from each one of the movies and video game...
@tofer17 I see where you're heading. Sometimes you have to watch a "bad" film a couple of times before you see the good in it. The idea of the thing evolving is exactly what it's all about. First it just looks human and acts it, then it starts to get smart. There's something to that.
@georgekostaras Yeah, and even though the CGI was used too much in this, I do have to admit, the monsters all looked scary...and I'm quite surprised that the Thing is actually a bug, an alien parasite, which is fitting since parasites or viruses does infect people!
@tofer17 I've always been a proponent of CGI, people just tend to overuse it. I think it can be great if you use it alongside traditional animatronics to give things a little more "life"
And the thing always looks scary, even in this movie. It's never the same monster twice. And more importantly, viruses and parasites evolve almost constantly
@georgekostaras You're right, and it make sense for the Thing true form to be a parasite bug, cause in the prequel, the 1982 film, and the video game, some of the monsters looked bug-like even though it was human, you know what I mean?
@tofer17 Well for me the greatest appeal of the thing is that it's not one form or thing ,it's a million things or shapes from a million worlds. Whatever it needs to be. Yeah, it has that bug type/creepy crawlie form to it. I never played the game, how was it?
@georgekostaras It's pretty great, cause it focus on trust and fear as u progress in the game, like , some survivors you find won't trust u til they know ur not infected, so u have to take a blood test, or when u want to gain trust, give ur teammates weapons and heal them sometimes...Fear is another system, cause u have to try to calm ur teammates down or else they won't listen to ur orders or goes ballistic and starts shooting you and the mates...it's an awesome intense game! :3
@tofer17 I remember that Spoony reviewed the game, he ripped it pretty hard. Still, if nothing else it's a fascinating concept. And fear is something the Thing has a natural ability to engender.
@georgekostaras Fear is good, but out of every scary video games I've ever played besides the Thing video game, I consider Dead Space to be the scariest games series of all time!
@tofer17 I know all about dead space, the worst part was I got the red ring of death when I was thirty seconds away from beating the game. But answer me this, how do you think this prequel stacks up to the original?
@georgekostaras Well the CGI made the monsters a bit more realistic than the original, since back then they used puppets and such...you know what I mean by that, but IMO, the original was better cause it was dark and intense cause you couldn't know which one of the humans were infected til it was too late! XD
Gotta love the fans going crazy over details here, Now I'm a fan of The Thing from 1982 myself but to go crazy because there aren't kerosene cans around a body or if a skin pigment is slightly off is just moronic. This movie was supposed to answer the question "What happened at the Norwegian research base?", something it did and to be frank that's more important then "Was there five kerosene tanks around the splitface body?"
It's not a question that needs answering to begin with. The 1982 film was built on the atmosphere and mystery created by the events before the film not being clear. This one did nothing innovative or memorable with the prequel concept. Everything was inert, phoned in as part of a check-list and the holes were plugged with crappy CGI.
I'll stick with the 1982 film. The world will never miss this cinematic abortion.
@Zyltarion To you maybe not; but if the point was being able to watch both movies in order; then this prequel failed hard because at no point in it they unearth the spaceship; there are two women in this team that weren't present in the "sequel" and the creature is several feet underground near the ship while in the original it was buried a few feet under, but several seet FROM the ship. You just can't suspend disbelief that way.
@Zyltarion And I mean; it's not like the original movie is just a few years behind and fresh in everybody's mind and thus you were pressed for time to make everything fit. The director made a great fuss of having stills taken from the original movie to preserve continuity and color palette and to make sure you could watch both movies back to back. The kerosene cans are a minor detail granted, but the other stuff isn't. I mean, they showed how the axe got stuck in the door ffs.
It matters quite a bit. It changes what was pretty obvious to begin with.
It was obvious that splitface was someone who got caught mid transformation and burned, like they did with Bennings in the 82 film. This movie changes that to Kate burning it with a flamethrower. Also why the fuck would it still run around with 2 heads for no reason. It's stupid.
We didn't need to know what happened, that was the point of the 82 film. We know they found the thing and it killed
@Zyltarion yeh its important to them but noone else who watches the film, cuz it really doesnt have any impact on the movie, whether its arms were stretched out or at a right angle or if lars said potato or pootaato, or if thermite was ever seen, or if the axe was a bit of angle from the original. seriously if your paying that much attention to that stuff your not paying enough attention to the actual movie.
@Zyltarion u answered like a boss!, but in the original movie, i saw something else near the bodie of "split-face", a take of something diferent, the corpses of juliette-thing and karl, a think split-face landed near that spot, but isnot clear at all
The fact is, there's a difference between nitpicking and just trying to connect two films and their details. Again, with 29 years since the original came out, the least these filmmakers could do is match up all the events and details perfectly. They did that for the most part (the split-face, the ax in the door, the man who committed suicide, and the two Norwegians chasing the dog). However, there's a big difference between burning with a flamethrower and burning with kerosene cans.
the story about the Norwegians was an untold story that said everything it needed to say, making a whole movie about that concept is kinda silly. Why do neo age movie goers never realize that these sequel, reboot and prequel movies are only made to make money and capitalize on franchises made with passion.
@Zyltarion I am happy that they made this movie, and agree that the "kerosine can" thing is a bit OTT, but I can see where they are coming from. I do however wish they used more real probs and less cgi..
@Zyltarion If you actually thought for a bit, you'd realize that the the presence of kerosene cans suggests a different way that the creature was killed.
The split-face in the prequel doesn't make any sense... When Mac and Copper found it in the original, there were kerosene cans left around it, suggesting the Norwegians burnt it on the spot while it was in mid-transformation.
@eikichi00 If you look closely in the original you can see the axe still embedded in the wall after Carter smashed it there. they did pay some attention to the original.
@eikichi00 it wasnt from the spliface thing. it came from the Juliette thing. in this movie the norwegians threw kerosene on juliette and her victim and lars burnt them to ashes. That would make more sense
@eikichi00 if you remember back to JC "The Thing", they catch it mid transformation/assimilation almost all the time. This sucker probably thought it had the best shot at getting multiple victims at once and succeeding, and attacked. But before it could assimilate anyone, it was chased off, and then (as seen in the clip) caught, and killed (or was it?)
I gotta admit I was skeptical about this movie at first, but this scene was pretty damn scary, at least to me. I think it's even scarier that they show the thing slowly walk around the corner like that. This film's legit, I like it.
never thought of it b4 but if splitface were to ever imitate someone who would it be??? edvard or adam, or both lol, it would come apart to look like them then jump back together when thinging out lol.
Talk about a shitty day: You get stabbed in the kidney by a tentacle, a hybrid thing from outer space melts to your face, you get lit on fire, and you realize you forgot to start the dishwasher.
@AspiringPotato Your pinned in a corner and the only weapon you have on you is a knife, so what? are you going to use your bare hands to fight it? Good luck with that...
@TheDodonin they messed up. the splitfaces arms were not positioned like that when it got burned. when they found the corpse in carpenter's version the arms were positioned differently.
IT MATTERS, if it's suppose to be a prequel and seamless like the director of this peice of shit kept claiming, then there should be NO MISTAKES period.
Also, the kerosene cans next to it are missing.
And when Mac found it, it was partially buried, they had to dig the rest of it out to takes it back to outpost 31. Again not in this movie.
I found 9 through the whole movie. I have and I only watched it once (not counting the scenes here on youtube such as splitface and the ending with the chopper.

I'll stick with the 1982 film. The world will never miss this cinematic abortion.
NoCinemaForYou 2 months ago
@Zyltarion To you maybe not; but if the point was being able to watch both movies in order; then this prequel failed hard because at no point in it they unearth the spaceship; there are two women in this team that weren't present in the "sequel" and the creature is several feet underground near the ship while in the original it was buried a few feet under, but several seet FROM the ship. You just can't suspend disbelief that way.
TheLordSethonan 2 months ago
@TheLordSethonan
Actually there was one woman for sure in the Norwegian camp. You see her in the pictures they look at when they bring it back to Outpost 31.
go to outpost 31 dot com and you will see the picture.
snake2006 2 months ago
@Zyltarion And I mean; it's not like the original movie is just a few years behind and fresh in everybody's mind and thus you were pressed for time to make everything fit. The director made a great fuss of having stills taken from the original movie to preserve continuity and color palette and to make sure you could watch both movies back to back. The kerosene cans are a minor detail granted, but the other stuff isn't. I mean, they showed how the axe got stuck in the door ffs.
TheLordSethonan 2 months ago
@Zyltarion
I know right. its a fitting tribute to the best horror movie of all time, lets leave it at that and all go and eat pie.
verzeda 2 months ago
@Zyltarion
We know they found the thing and it killed
snake2006 2 months ago
@Zyltarion yeh its important to them but noone else who watches the film, cuz it really doesnt have any impact on the movie, whether its arms were stretched out or at a right angle or if lars said potato or pootaato, or if thermite was ever seen, or if the axe was a bit of angle from the original. seriously if your paying that much attention to that stuff your not paying enough attention to the actual movie.
flipmasta14 2 months ago
@Zyltarion u answered like a boss!, but in the original movie, i saw something else near the bodie of "split-face", a take of something diferent, the corpses of juliette-thing and karl, a think split-face landed near that spot, but isnot clear at all
johnsparkle 2 months ago
@Zyltarion
BuildersBlockStudios 1 month ago
@Zyltarion
the story about the Norwegians was an untold story that said everything it needed to say, making a whole movie about that concept is kinda silly. Why do neo age movie goers never realize that these sequel, reboot and prequel movies are only made to make money and capitalize on franchises made with passion.
Ackronam 1 month ago
@Zyltarion I am happy that they made this movie, and agree that the "kerosine can" thing is a bit OTT, but I can see where they are coming from. I do however wish they used more real probs and less cgi..
jwimpeney 1 month ago
@Zyltarion Thank you. People just can't accept a good movie, they have to take it apart and analyze every thing wrong with it.
kozakX316 1 month ago
@Zyltarion If you actually thought for a bit, you'd realize that the the presence of kerosene cans suggests a different way that the creature was killed.

The split-face in the prequel doesn't make any sense... When Mac and Copper found it in the original, there were kerosene cans left around it, suggesting the Norwegians burnt it on the spot while it was in mid-transformation.
eikichi00 2 months ago 20
@eikichi00 If you look closely in the original you can see the axe still embedded in the wall after Carter smashed it there. they did pay some attention to the original.
McRighty 2 months ago
@eikichi00 but lars was still at the camp so maybe he poured kerosene on it to make sure it was dead before he got picked up
wickedjesterboi 2 months ago 3

Nope, he is still in the shed he got pulled into when they went out to get carter earlier in the film.

@eikichi00 oh and it looks nothing like the original split face. the original looks like one face stretch apart. this is two face.

@eikichi00
What'd you expect? They're always gonna mess up a random scene in "any" movie.
Alcairo02 2 months ago
@eikichi00 they messed up a few things kinda like how the norweigians blew the alien craft outa the ice instead of it collapsing
Fahstudios13579 2 months ago
@eikichi00 Lars put the cans there sometime before the chopper arrived.
NaveNinja 2 months ago
@eikichi00 it wasnt from the spliface thing. it came from the Juliette thing. in this movie the norwegians threw kerosene on juliette and her victim and lars burnt them to ashes. That would make more sense
itsfortoo 2 months ago
@eikichi00 The thing about it is that proffesor thing mysteriously gains extra biomass before assimilating the other guy.
angrydead 2 months ago
@eikichi00 if you remember back to JC "The Thing", they catch it mid transformation/assimilation almost all the time. This sucker probably thought it had the best shot at getting multiple victims at once and succeeding, and attacked. But before it could assimilate anyone, it was chased off, and then (as seen in the clip) caught, and killed (or was it?)
Tank50us 2 months ago
@eikichi00 There's TONS of continuity issues. It's unavoidable to a certain extent. Just gotta go with it.
MattAlbie 2 months ago
@MattAlbie
No it's not unavoidable. They could have easily gotten everything right. The other movie has been on video for years. No excuse for laziness.
snake2006 2 months ago
@eikichi00 perhaps during the subtitels, the actors who survived added a few barrels to decorate the body! thats what happend!

I gotta admit I was skeptical about this movie at first, but this scene was pretty damn scary, at least to me. I think it's even scarier that they show the thing slowly walk around the corner like that. This film's legit, I like it.

@flipmasta14
Yes it does. If they are trying to connect the 2, then do it right.
It's like making a jigsaw puzzle, you just don't take a piece that doesn't belong and smash it into there just to make it fit. It still doesn't fit.
Every detail MATTERED.
snake2006 2 months ago 7
never thought of it b4 but if splitface were to ever imitate someone who would it be??? edvard or adam, or both lol, it would come apart to look like them then jump back together when thinging out lol.

what is your opinion, Mr.Carpenter ?
TheDodonin 3 months ago
@TheDodonin they messed up. the splitfaces arms were not positioned like that when it got burned. when they found the corpse in carpenter's version the arms were positioned differently.
100mmatte 3 months ago
@100mmatte arms position is irelevant for me. I ment the whole idea of the movie..
TheDodonin 2 months ago
@TheDodonin
Again not in this movie.
snake2006 2 months ago
@snake2006 they made a ton of mistakes in this movie.especially with splitface. i can see atleast 4.
