This video shows off a lot of cool stuff, but most of the time I have no idea what the presenter is doing. Click drag shift click stuff's different. What happened? I am a total newb to DAW software so I may not be the target audience, but this video is mostly way over my head.
@megalodonNL The manual is not a script for this video as far as I can tell. The manual has a lot of great information for sure but it's nice to get information in "in-use" format too so you can see how people work. You know, so I can learn how other people solve problems.
What I meant was: if you have a very specific question that wasn't addressed in a youtube video, you COULD look it up yourself in the manual. If the answer isn't in there, you can better ask on the forum since that's what it's for. You'll probably get the answer within the same day. Look at your question: it was asked 2 weeks ago and still you didn't receive your answer from the YT community. You really like to wait that long?
@megalodonNL Fair enough. My question was rhetorical and I did not expect an answer from the Youtube community. It was a comment for the video's author on the video itself.
Yes big bear Reaper will do all you require... and lots more. It doesnt get any easier. Its not over technical... yet powerful... you only need a mic plugged into your sound card and drag an mp3 onto a track and sing over it adding any fx you want. Render as mp3 and done! Simplez! ;0)
Is there a program that is fairly simple to learn and use? I'm thinking pro tools, because every video i've watched for reaper is just a bunch of jargon and I have no clue what any of it means. I'm a beginner with these programs, so I wanna know. I've downloaded other software like video editing software that is so simple and easy I learned it in a matter of minutes. I just want to record a voice over to an already recorded tune...guess I would need a mic and a program...anything else?
Great videos.. quick and helpful well done!.. peepz with questions should read the online manual that comes with reaper. It answers all questions posted here. I have been using Reaper for about 3 weeks and have been using Acid pro 7 for years... this is by far the most intuitive DAW i have ever used and really cheap to purchase a license. $40 is a bargain compared to Cubase, Acid, Ableton, Sonar etc... the dev team are great and refreshing in their commitment and attitude towards its users.
@muzikman2008 Its really only $40 online? I don't want to sound like a douche but I need a fairly easy program. All I wanna do is lay down a premade track in mp3 format and lay some vocals over it. Obviously I need a mic and some wires. Anything else? And is it easy to do this using Reaper? I'm working with a PC that runs windows XP. Its very basic. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
ok, but where do i click to make it feel like cubase... its so hard getting used to all the new shortcuts and workflow... can't do sh.. in this after 8years of cubase... :S
Wow man, thanks so much for these tutorials. I've been using Reaper a few days and I thought Ioved it, but now I've been learning so much more from your tutorials and I REALLY love it. I hope you're, like, getting kickbacks for this or something! ;)
this is a very good option if your looking for a program wich you can use for free, but my favourite program by far is FL Studio. It's just so much smoother to work with!
Any editor that doesn't allow clip mods like vegas and reaper here is lame! haha man, I LOVE being able to work at the clip level. fade in/out, volume, but I'm learning this reaper prog so not sure if you can add fx at the clip level or only track level but anyway, thanks for the tuts.
@TruthSurge Oh you *absolutely* can add FX at the clip level in Reaper! Select a clip and press shift+E, this FX window will apply to the clip only. You can also press F2 and find an "FX" button in the clip properties window. You can copy or move FX from clip to clip just the same as you can from track to track, you can rightclick the clip and choose "Render selected items", you can split (S) a clip that already has FX and it will duplicate the FX to both children...
@RogetMusic how to add a volume envelope to a track? or can you? that'd suck if not. I'm just learning this but have used Vegas and Cakewalk and such.
Clear and informative. Very well-made and concise videos.
Thanks for posting!
Was going to upgrade to Logic 9, but this caught my attention, and with the low price and constant updates, has me second guessing my decision to buy Logic.
Project Tabbing is awesome! Swapping data between projects, that's fantastic.
Thanks for the tuts, I just picked up the software today and I like it. For some reason my midi keyboard doesn't work with the software. I'm using the asio4all program but have tried switching to all the other available devices, none of them are responding to midi input though :/
Hmm there could be a number of issues. I'd look at the Synths tutorial to make sure you have stuff like input monitoring, track arming, etc. taken care of if you haven't already.
That said, simplest test is to take any old track and set its input to "MIDI: All: All channels", press a few keys and see if the orange (or maybe it's red, I'm colourblind) line flashes a bit.
Check your settings (ctrl+P, MIDI Devices) and make sure under "mode" it's Enabled too.
Thanks for such a quick reply. What I did was I clicked the "select recording mode" button (the one 2 to the right of "arm/disarm") midi input / all midi inputs / and ticked "all channels" really pleased. Cheers
When i try to split something at like a 16th note but it the cursor only goes to quarter notes?? what should i do??

I'm thinking about switching over to reaper. So these are great videos, very helpful and very nicely presented, thanks for doing them.
Have you heard of Ritchie Kotzen? (guitarist / singer) - you sound EXACTLY like him.
