Saw this live yesterday. It was the first time Tommy performed on electric guitar with his band outside of Australia.. Damn the guy still kicks ass!!!
@vzsozs yea it amazed me too.... he recently started his new tour where he combines his acoustic solo style with the addition of his band. AWESOME STUFF!!!
@vzsozs He really really does. I saw him recently in Bristol, England and the best bit by FAR was when he was on his electric with the whole band. It completely blew me away and I was already a big fan!
I remember when I was really into Tommy Emmanuel I went on audiogalaxy to find other albums I couldn't find in town here, and I found all these weird george benson sounding discs with his name on it and I thought it was someone else !!!
Tommy doing well, but nothing you don't hear from most of the rock-fusion groove-and-jam bands back then. His gifts in solo guitar performance are the most impressive.
Aaaah the 80's.. a time when America was its best in my opinion. M T.V. & the airwaves had all the variety. It was just one hell of a decade to live in! Great vid here!
@Grockle1345 Dude he was fingerpickin at age 15 like a pro. There's a docco on him and his early life. Watch it theres a funny story about their Pincipal not believing that he could play the guitar and he busted out some chet atkins and the principal was so flabberghasted he started asking for lessons.
Actully it is a little bit ironic that MTV don't play music anymore. I mean... If MTV stands for: "Music Television," then they should change their name to: RTV (Reality Television).
Tommy when he had the Micheal J Fox look going, but Fox never played guitar like this. Cant wait for the tour with the old band...bring it ON!!!!!!!!!!
i reckon acoustic suits him better because there are many electric guitarists out there who are very skilled at blues and jazzy stuff as he's doing in this vid. on acoustic, this guy is a wizard, doing stuff that literally has never been heard of or seen before. but no matter what kinda guitar he has, he's a very gifted composer.
Tommy Emmanuel is good at electric and acoustic even acoustic is more harder...you said there is some guitarists better than him in blues and jazz , i dont think ,as u see in this video he doing good work....he one of the best acoustic and electric guitarist ...as well good composer!!!!!
@mushroomz88 I completely agree... theirs "some" exceptions , but they are quite a rare breed in todays popmusic culture...

@petrovmarin well obviously. I wish there was a channel that'd showcase talent w/o selling out. Kinda like how candyrat brings light to all these new artists.
@tman916x Don`t know.....Every real music has left the channel, so why does they still call it MTV (Music TeleVision?) MTV of the 20th centry is crap. Still Tommy rocks and man he is a one man show of a kind
I would say early electric. Tommy used to do a lot of studio work with British groups in England in earlier years. He's shared the stage with Clapton, Les Paul and many others. Hell, I love ALL guitarists! If they hit your inner feelings then it doesn't matter who they are!
he plays the a natural harmonic on the 5th fret 3 rd string (G) and then he pushes the string down (towords the neck) after the nut near the tuners. Hope I helped :)

I think he's bending the high E string behind the nut, by pressing the string down towards the headstock between the tuning peg & the nut.
It also sounds like he's hitting a pinch harmonic with his picking hand as well.

it might be the natural harmonic at the fifth or seventh fret with the above the nut bend. thats a pretty neat trick if youve never tried it
