The most striking is the karaoke bar, downtown LA on 1st street. ha there is a painting of a sailboat i distinctively remember from it. then the Smiths --brings me back. Morressy/smith sure can hit you, especially if you enjoy depression ha. Friend kept telling me to see this flick i was reluctant being a romance. finally got around to it after months. Fricken cried, it helped me deal with a loss. she married too

I"m 53 and have been a Smiths fan since the mid eighties and I love this movie. Don't understand some of the bitterness towards the movie from Smiths fans - they should be grateful that it introduced a new generation to their music. Of all people, Morrissey would understand the overwhelming grief felt by Tom Hansen.

As someone who has been in the same position as the girl, I totally empathise with her. It was neither of their faults that it didn't work, they wanted different things. Summer told him she didn't want a serious relationship, which he didn't really take much notice of which is why he got so hurt. And like she said at the end, when she met the right guy, she was sure of what she never was with Tom. She liked him, but it just wasn't meant to be.

I really wanted to like this movie, but there's just too much suffering.

The guy is clueless - he just can't bring himself to face the situation.

And the girl, she's horrible - she knows how he feels about her, but

 she strings him right along anyway, kissing him in the copy room, dancing with him when she has a guy she's going to get married to, dreadful.

As soon as they break up, she finds somebody to do all the things she wouldn't do with him: commit, fall in love. Crushing for the guy.

When she finally fell in love with someone, it must've been hard for her to break Tom's heart but she had to and the reason why she danced with him is because she still loves him as a friend and he's done so much for her so he has a special place in her heart

All he got: a painful, confusing lesson.

And near the end of the relationship, she had subliminally admitted they were an item, that's why she said "we need to stop seeing each other." that's something a couple would say. She was just afraid because of her past failure relationships and her parent's divorce. She didn't want to give herself completely away to a man until she was certain.
