The forms in kung fu are great for keeping you fit, strong and flexible. If you can learn to use the animal applications then they are very useful, also kung fu has sanda and chin na these are fighting techniques that you would more commonly use in a street fight but like i said if you are good then you can us ethe animal applications to. I practice Hung Kuen at my University its an a brilliant style
Another thing, you keep having the assumption that martial artists only have one alternative, in a fight.
Yes! what you say, is probably one of the philosophies in WT, but that doesn't mean they don't have other alternatives/philosophies when it comes to fighting.
Kung fu is just an umbrella term. what u just said is like saying "the solar system does not have life; i like the earth because it has life". the solar system contains the earth, plus we haven't fully analysed all the planets in the solar system
After all that's been said, I still dont find it effective. You fight like an animal with me and, you will be picking up your teeth. Hypothetically speaking and we will never fully analize the solar system,so whats your point? also that wasn't coherent.
You speak of Gong Fu as if they only have one alternative in a fight, which is fighting like an animal... But in reality one does not have to fight in a specific way.
Another thing is, that the way a technique is executed in a form, is not necessarily the same way you would apply it to a real fight situation. This is common knowledge in all martial arts.
Its a matter about, how you (or the teacher) priority your training.
Its evident, that those who put their main priority in training self defense situations, is bound to become more efficient in combat, then those who priority form/kata training.
Gong Fu (or other Martial Arts) is as effective as you want it to be.
Understandable but I believe you gong fu artist are to stuck on katas and recieving rank. Narrow minded and cant move freely of course not all but most in my opinion. Yes I do agree with one thing from your statement: "Things are what we make them to be."
If one is in a hurry getting to the top of the ladder, they may (in the end) find that they have climbed the wrong ladder, or that they have forgotten how they got there, or why they initially began the climb/journey.
Isnt it a shame that it allways comes down to "whos art is the best in the street" Ive studied many styles inc a street based style to 2nd Dan black belt level and have now gone back to the start to train in Hung Gar... all I know is that in a fight the best art is the one that lets you get away un harmed... there is no best art and it is only your determination to survive and a good amount of luck that will win
wing tsun is ok ,but it starts with the attacker forearms on (yours) one another. what are the odds of that really happening? 1 out of 985482558295975845485942....my point
@maceioninjutsu thats incorrect, the point is not to begin with forearm contact, its to teach sensitivity once the forearms or any other part of the body touch. the emphasis is placed on sensitivity which is a skill itself, it can take years to even begin to build this type of sensitivity.
hi guys, i'm 8 yeas Hung gar practicer, in july i will leave to Hong Kong to learn fu Hok by SI fu Cheong Yee Keung (the white shirt guy that performs fu hok in the vid), the disceple of chan hon chun, and now master of Hung Gar.awesome man. all about respect and tradition
It is wonderful to have a look to an old fashion kwon, training and very respectful Master as was Sigung Chan Hong, I´m very happy to have this oportunity and I´d learned too much with this small exibition. the 3 videos are awsome.
i think this is the master of my kung fu teacher, im not sure if its him, ....and this kata they made at first called ( moifah ) it mean the flower something...haha i dont remember, kung fu is good but not for street fights, muaythai is beter...
i dont agree with you because kung_fu is the best using in street and there part in kung_fu called street fighter but this not using in true chapions but this use specially in street and in my opinion muay thai very good and i like it.but if you look to kung_fu deep view you will see to kung_fu as muay thai dont look to champions look to all kung_fu you will find all thing in muay thai and another sport in kung_fu .believe me....this perfect art.thank you

Here's an example:
If a skilled fighter is fighting an opponent who isn't skilled , and if he wants to have contact with the opponents arm.
Then there's a great chance, that he will succeed, within a couple attempts.
Thereby having a complete different ratio, then you claim.
It is not that difficult (for an technically skilled fighter) to read the opponent. And to have him doing what you want him to do.
For example, by faking an opening, luring the assailant to open himself up

Your point falters due to ignorance.

u just answered yourself. if you can never understand the solar system, how can you speak of kung fu as if you know it.

The man's (ssj7gokurpg) got a point.

Theory and practise is two different things.

I cant say that i have experienced the same, other then that "rotten apples" are seen everywhere, and not just in one particular branch.
Yes i have also experienced that many people are to focused on rank.
Its sad because, they seem to fail in realizing important aspects of life.:
"It is not the goal that is most important, but the road getting there."

Not all Kung fu Styles are like that! Try Wing Tsun Kung Fu. It's made for real life fights.
